Chapter 54 - Chapter 54 : Clue

Later that day, Sarah stayed at the William estate, walking up and down the fancy hallways with a calm look on her face.

The shiny mirrors and sparkling chandeliers reflected her cool attitude, but inside, her thoughts were racing.

Her plans were starting to come together, but one thing still bothered her—George.

Josh's best friend always seemed simple and trustworthy but sometime it's feel like untrustworthy , like he had nothing to hide but hide many thing .

But today, something about him felt different. It wasn't anything he said or did, but there was a feeling about him—faint yet familiar, like the one tied to the locket she has one.

Could George have something to do with it? Could he have a something precious with Lamas or were wolvs ?

But how could she figure it out without making him suspicious? Sarah knew she had to be careful.

Unlike Josh, George wasn't easily charmed. He noticed things, even if he didn't always see her true intentions. He might be a challenge, but Sarah was determined to find out the truth.

Her plans were taking shape, but one variable lingered in her mind—George.

Josh's best friend had always seemed unassuming, but today, something about him unsettled her.

But how would she uncover it without arousing suspicion? Manipulating George required subtlety.

Unlike Josh, George wasn't so easily swayed by her charm. He was perceptive, though perhaps naive when it came to her motives.

---

Sarah found George in the sunroom, lounging with a book in hand, a cup of tea resting on the table beside him. He looked up as she entered, his warm smile inviting but guarded.

"Ah, Sarah," he said, setting his book aside.

"You seem lost in thought. Care to join me?"

Sarah smiled politely, masking her unease.

"Of course, George," she said, settling into the seat across from him.

"It's always nice to have a chat with someone so... insightful."

George chuckled, shaking his head.

"Insightful? That's a stretch. I'm just an ordinary guy trying to make sense of this chaotic world."

Sarah tilted her head, studying him. Ordinary? Hardly.

There was something about him that she couldn't ignore, something that demanded further investigation.

---

As they spoke, George leaned forward slightly, his expression curious.

"So, Sarah," he began, "how are you feeling about the announcement? About marrying Josh?"

Sarah's smile faltered for just a second before she recovered.

"It's... overwhelming," she admitted, carefully choosing her words.

"Josh is a wonderful person, but it's all happening so fast."

George nodded thoughtfully.

"I can imagine. But you and Josh seem to get along well. He's always speaking so highly of you."

Sarah glanced away, feigning modesty.

"Josh is kind," she said.

"I'm lucky to have his support."

---

As they continued talking, Sarah decided to probe George further.

She couldn't directly ask about the locket, but perhaps she could steer the conversation in that direction.

"You know," she said, her tone light,

"this house is full of fascinating People . Do you ever feel like there are... hidden something here? Things waiting to be uncovered?"

George raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"That's an interesting way to put it," he said.

"I suppose every family has its secrets. But what brought that on?"

Sarah shrugged, leaning back in her chair.

"Oh, just something I overheard. People talk about artifacts and heirlooms with such reverence. It's fascinating, don't you think?"

George nodded slowly, his expression thoughtful.

"I guess so. Though I'm not much of a historian myself. Josh's family does have some unique pieces, though. Maybe that's what you mean?"

Sarah's heart raced, but she kept her expression calm.

"Perhaps," she said.

"What about you, George? Do you have anything from your family that's special? Something with a story behind it?"

George laughed, shaking his head. "Nothing like that. My family's pretty ordinary."

---

Sarah studied him, trying to discern whether he was being truthful.

If George held any knowledge about the locket, he didn't seem aware of it.

"I envy that," she said, her tone wistful.

"Ordinary can be comforting. Sometimes I wish life were simpler."

George's brow furrowed slightly.

"You don't seem like someone who craves simplicity," he said.

"You've got this... presence. Like you're meant for something bigger."

Sarah smiled faintly, masking her true thoughts.

"Perhaps. But bigger isn't always better."

George leaned back, sipping his tea.

"That's true," he said.

"But I think you'll find your place here. Especially with Josh by your side."

---

As their conversation continued, Sarah felt a flicker of frustration.

George wasn't giving her anything useful, and his constant questions about her feelings for Josh were starting to grate on her nerves.

"How do you feel about the marriage, really?" George asked again, his eyes searching hers.

Sarah hesitated, then sighed softly.

"It's... complicated," she said, allowing a hint of vulnerability to creep into her voice.

"Josh is kind and caring, but sometimes I wonder if I'm the right person for him."

George frowned.

"Why would you think that? Josh clearly adores you."

Sarah met his gaze, her expression unreadable.

"Sometimes love isn't enough," she said quietly.

---

George seemed troubled by her words, but before he could respond, Sarah stood, smoothing her dress.

"Thank you for the chat, George," she said, her smile polite but distant.

"I should go find dad. He's probably wondering where I am."

George nodded, watching as she left the room.

"Take care, Sarah," he said softly.

As Sarah walked away, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.

George might not have revealed anything significant today, but his connection to the locket couldn't be ignored.

She would need to dig deeper—and fast.

Time is running out, she thought. And I won't let anyone stand in my way.
