Chapter 5 - Heading Up North

Part One

As I packed my bags and prepared to leave Heredome City, I looked out the window at the city.

"I'm gonna miss this place," I thought as I reminisced on all the times we spent here.

Agatha came into my room.

"It's about time to leave. Hurry up or we'll miss the train." Agatha said as she turned to walk out, moving her belongings into the lobby.

I finally packed all my stuff into the lobby and it was time to wait for Grande.

"Where's Grande?" I asked as we saw her struggling to carry a huge backpack on her.

"What are you doing? Did you put everything into one bag?" I asked as I began to laugh at her.

"Can we just leave?" Grande asked as she got annoyed at me.

We ran towards the train and it started to leave.

"Snowe!" Agatha called out and Snowe picked all of us up.

Snowe ran as fast as he could and we jumped onto the top of the train. We entered the train from the top and we all thanked Snowe.

"Where are our rooms, Agatha?" We asked while we maneuvered through the train.

"Right here!"

"Here's your room Luther. Our rooms are just next door," and I scanned the ticket and entered, I dropped my stuff and sat on my bed.

"Okay Altaro, you can come out now," and Altaro wiggled out of my bag and onto my bed.

Agatha and Grande came into my room and told me it was time to get breakfast.

We marched towards the dining hall and grabbed food in a Buffet style. We then carried our plates to a table and sat down to eat and talk.

"So where are we going exactly?" I asked.

"We're leaving Louton and Heredome to stay in Gaeth for a while." Agatha said.

"Where in Gaeth?"

"We'll be staying in Berkshire up north. There's a lot of rumors about a group of individuals causing some issues up there."

"Do you think that it's them?" Grande asked, referring to the New Order.

"Well that's why we're going up there. We have to find out." Agatha said as she began to eat her food.

We ate our food and all returned to our rooms.

The train ride is a little less than a full day.

I stayed in my room for a couple hours sitting on my bed.

"This is so boring," I thought.

I ended up dozing off.

"You have to be perfect," my father said as he slapped me.

At this time I was four years old.

"You don't want to be a disappointment, right?" He said with another slap.

As he went to slap me again I woke up.

I was sweating and woke up nearly jumping out of my bed.

"Hey are ya alright?" I heard as I turned to see Grande in my room.

"I'm fine. How'd you get in here?" I asked while sitting up in my bed.

"The door was open. Anyways, I came in to let ya know they're serving dinner." She said and turned to walk out.

"Wait up!" I said and we walked to the dinning hall.

We each grabbed plates and loaded up on the delicious dinner they prepared. Afterwards, the three of us sat down at a table together.

"So, what's the deal with Altaro?" Grande asked while petting him.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"Do ya know what he's capable of? How's Soul Integration with him?"

"Well to be completely honest, I have no clue about all of his abilities. I know he has access to a pocket dimension through his tails but that's about it. He sleeps a lot and doesn't say much. I still have not tried Soul Integration with him."

"He's gaining strength as he sleeps," Agatha interrupted with.

"Because of his access to your Soulforge energy reserves, he's been slowly taking some of that energy in order to grow. You likely haven't noticed because your energy reserves are abnormally large since you awakened as only a child."

She continued saying, "The first time you use Soul Integration you will most likely pass out after. You will be restrained to only one use a day because you're simply not acclimated to the physical toll it takes on your body. You also likely will not be able to use it for very long."

"How can I get used to the toll it'll take on my body?" I asked.

"You have to use Soul Integration. The more you use it, the more control you get over it."

I have to start using it in order to get ahead and master it." I thought.

We dug into our food. After eating, we returned to our rooms and went to bed.

Part Two

"ATTENTION ALL PASSENGERS, WE ARE NOW ARRIVING AT BERKSHIRE STATION."

"They couldn't have made that announcement a little quieter?" I asked as I rubbed my eyes and got up.

I grabbed all of my belongings and walked out to the hallway. Grande walked out and Agatha was in the hallway ready.

"Let's start moving," Agatha said and we filed off the train.

We walked out to a beautiful view of a snow-filled city and a huge cathedral.

"What's up with that cathedral?" I asked.

"It's for the Great Spirit, this town is made up of a group of devout followers." Agatha said.

"Oh, it's cold up here," Grande said while shivering.

"We need to get some coats."

We walked to the inn and made our ways to our rooms. We dropped off our belongings and met back in the hallway.

"Before we left Heredome I grabbed you two coats. Put these on before you freeze to death," and she handed the coats to us.

"Thanks so much!"

"Ya the best!"

I put on my blue coat while Grande put on her black coat.

"What about ya? Don't ya feel cold?" Grande asked Agatha.

"I'm used to the cold. I grew up in the north."

"Anyways, we have to get to business. Let's head to the Adventurer's Outpost." Agatha said.

We all marched through the snow as we admired the view.

"Now what are we gonna do here?" I asked as I looked around.

"Grab a mission obviously." Agatha said as she approached the mission board.

"Frostbreath Dungeon, a Grade II mission. " Agatha said as she reached out her hand to grab it.

"Stop! We can't go there." I shouted.

Both Agatha and Grande turned to look at me.

"Listen to me. We can't go there. There's no chance we can."

"There are reports of strange occurrences down in Frostbreath Dungeon. It is our duty as adventurers to investigate it." Agatha said while grabbing the paper.

"The Great Spirit said not to go." I thought.

"The trip was long so we won't take on the dungeon today. You'll have the rest of the day to prepare, the dungeon will be a multiple day to week long mission." Agatha said as she walked away.

"What was that all about? Ya scared?" Grande asked giggling.

"It's not that. I just don't think we should go." I said.

"Anyways, we gotta pack and buy lots of food if we're going." I said and we started to shop.

We bought lots of food and maps of the town and Frostbreath Dungeon. We also got a journal of all the information known about Frostbreath Dungeon.

Afterwards, we went back to our rooms and stayed there for the rest of the night. We packed and went to bed.

I could barely sleep that night.

"Get up, it's time." Agatha yelled at me.

I woke up and started to dress up and enter the hallway.

Grande was already in the hallway with the maps and journal.

"It's time to leave," and we walked to Frostworth Dungeon as Grande navigated for us.

We arrived at the entrance of the dungeon.

"I've got a terrible feeling about this." I thought.

We entered the dungeon.

"The dungeon is six floors, but there's no information on the final floor." Agatha said.

"What's on the first floor?" I asked.

Grande replied, "Undead soldiers."

As the soldiers marched towards us, I created gauntlets for Grande and Snowe opened its mouth, revealing an ice sword. Grande's doll jumped off her back.

I put my palms together and generated a rock drill.

"Release!" I said and the rock drill pierced the head of one of the soldiers.

The doll began rushing through the army punching each soldier.

Agatha went through the crowd slicing the head off the soldiers.

The doll said, "Impact," and a second attack struck the soldiers knocking them down.

"Last one!" I called out as I rushed towards the last soldier.

I dodged the swing of its axe and created an ice katana and sliced its head off.

Part Three

"This was only the beginning." Agatha said as more came."

In this army of undead soldiers there were archers in the back.

"Grande, target the archers in the back." Agatha called out.

Grande summoned a ghost to take out the archers in the back.

I created a giant ice boulder above the army.

I flicked my finger down and the boulder dropped, eliminating a good amount of the army.

The doll continued to run around punching each soldier once.

Snowe sent ice spikes piercing the head of the soldiers.

The doll said, "Impact," and the rest of the soldiers crumbled.

"That's it for now, let's move." Agatha said.

We moved deeper in the dungeon.

As we progressed deeper we heard sounds from behind and infront of us.

"What is that?" I thought as I focused on trying to identify the approaching enemies.

"They got back up? The soldiers are approaching from behind us too." Grande said.

"Grande, Luther, and the doll, focus on the backside. Snowe and I will focus on the front." Agatha commanded.

"How do we defeat them? Won't they just come back?" We said.

"We'll try freezing them," said Agatha.

I threw my katana, stabbing the chest of a soldier.

I then created an ice axe and dove into the crowd.

"They're stronger, watch out." I shouted to Grande.

They no longer went down with a single strike.

The doll dove in with me delivering a punch as I cut various different limbs.

I jumped back and launched an ice drill into the army.

"Almost all down." I called out and the doll shouted, "Impact," and the soldiers took a second blow.

"Boo, detonate," Grande shouted and she summoned a ghost.

The ghost was large and stretched its arms out wide. It then flew into the army, pulling them in with a huge hug and exploded.

"All done on this side, Agatha!" Grande shouted.

On the front side the soldiers were easier to defeat. Agatha defeated them and had Snowe freeze them all.

Agatha called out, "Aqua Sphere," and made a sphere of water around the soldiers. Then Snowe froze the water leaving all the soldiers frozen.

"That was a lot more than I expected. I'm totally tired." I said as I fell to the ground.

"It's not just ya that's out." Grande said as she also fell to the ground.

"We'll rest here until you two are ready to continue on. Fighting three armies at once is tiring. We aren't in any rush to clear this place." Agatha said.

As I sat down I slowly fell asleep.

"Alright it's time to wake up, Luther," Agatha said as she shook me.

"It's time to advance to the second floor," Agatha said.

"That's all for the first floor," I asked.

"That's it but it only gets harder from here," Agatha said as we walked towards the markings on the ground.

"If we stand on this we'll be brought to the next floor. Are you two ready?" Agatha asked while walking about a step away from it.

"Yes," We both answered and we stepped on the markings.
