Chapter 21 - End of a Long Day

So… there I was, sitting on a lavish sofa as I awkwardly looked around. The blonde woman was sitting somewhat close by.

"Well?" I finally uttered. I needed an explanation for whatever it was that the woman attempted at the door.

In response to this, the woman had a nervous look on her face as she began her explanation, "I am a Delta-Class Channeler."

Oh, come on. Yet another term I don't know shit about.

"And?" I pressed.

"Those of us aren't able to block the passive effects of our Channel."

"And in this case, said effects would be…?"

"Favora, is what I call it. It makes it so that I leave a favorable impression on anyone I speak with."

Favorable, she says. My thoughts at that moment went far beyond just favorable. It was like I was on the verge of becoming obsessed with her.

"However, the effect may vary depending on some factors."

"How?"

"I'm not so sure myself, since it has happened only a few times before, and it varied each time."

Sylvie?

"She's telling the truth," Sylvie responded.

"All right. I'll choose to give you the benefit of the doubt, miss…" Not to mention, I was the one intruding on her property.

"Helen Blume."

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ms. Blume. I'm Mikael Lightburn."

"Likewise, Mr. Lightburn. What brings you here tonight?"

She asked that yet gave a pointed look to the duo that were still sitting atop my shoulders. I think they like sitting there…

"He needed a place to say," Yang spoke up.

"New here…" Yin added.

At that, Helen's eyes lit up as she stared at my face for a few seconds before speaking, "New here, you say?"

"Not even been a day," I remark.

"Well, no wonder the two brought you over. Though, I suppose your Channel has something to do with it as well."

"My Channel?" I asked, wondering if she was referring to my ability to manifest whatever I wanted.

"Yes… It's reacting to the Prima around us very… interestingly."

"In what way?" I was looking into her eyes and wondered if they saw something that I couldn't see. That should be the reason behind her words.

"Normally, Prima converges into a Channeler, not out of them Mr. Lightburn."

Ah… Well, that's something. Though, it kind of fits the whole idea of things originating from within me. But I was under the impression that I was consuming Prima in the air to produce anything I wanted, not whatever it is that she's implying is actually going on.

"The truth is, I was somewhat aware of my disposition being an unusual one."

"I'm not surprised," Helen said with a sagely nod, "others around you must've noticed it as well. Especially so considering the fact that you are an Outsider."

I found myself raising a brow at the term "Outsider". Another term that is a possible basis of discrimination?

Still, I decided against mentioning the term or what it implied. The reason being none other than my honed instincts. For some reason, I felt like that was exactly Helen intended for me to do. So, whatever reason it was, I found it doubtful that whatever benefits the information would bring me would be worth going along with whatever she had in mind for me.

"Oh dear, we're not being quite hospitable, are we?" Helen suddenly spoke with an expression of mock realization apparent on her face.

"Yang, please be a dear and fetch our guest a glass of water."

"No need," I interrupted, "I'm neither hungry nor thirsty."

Though that did make me deliberate something: I had always been the kind of individual that would get hungry pretty darn quickly.

Why haven't I gotten thirsty or hungry yet? Something is definitely off with my body. Could it be that there is more to it than my body simply being "younger"?

At that moment, I caught a glimpse of something which I can only describe as highly suspicious. Helen's eyes narrowed extremely slightly. Had it not been for my enhanced vision, I wouldn't have noticed it.

Sylvie, any hostile intent?

"None, Master."

That's odd. Then, was she confirming something?

It had been a long while since I had to interact with someone as tricky as Helen. While she voiced her thoughts, they were limited and calculated.

There is a chance that I'm simply overthinking it due to what happened at the doorway, but better safe than sorry.

"As you wish," Helen spoke, "well, instead of that, how about you two guide him to the guest room?"

Seems like she's noticed that I'm wary of her.

And that was how my first encounter with Helen came to an end.

Following that, the twin fairies guided me to a lavish guest room that had a connected bathroom.

"Thanks, you two," I said to the duo, "and goodnight."

To that, the duo simply in front of me with expressions of confusion.

"What?" I questioned.

"We'll sleep with you," Yang announced as if it were the most natural thing.

"Uh… no?" I said, "don't the two of you have your own room or something?"

"We do…" Yin responded.

"Then?"

"We just want to stay with you," Yang stated.

"But why?"

"It feels… comfortable around you."

The way she said it made me immediately realize that it had something to do with my constitution. Maybe this has to do with their race?

One last time, I confirmed with Sylvie that the duo had no hostile intent toward me before ultimately agreeing to it.

Hey, who was I to deny the company of two cute fairies?

Before going to bed, I decided to freshen up in the shower. Inside, I unmanifested my clothes and suit I wore underneath it.

Once I was done showering, I created new clothes – comfortable ones. I also recreated a suit for safety.

With that done, I headed back into the room, where I found the twin fairies sitting on top of the pillow, now having changed into pajamas.

It was an adorable sight.

What followed that was a somewhat lively night as I chatted with the fairies before eventually falling asleep.
