Chereads / Demon's Shadow / Chapter 6 - 6.) Overflow

Chapter 6 - 6.) Overflow

My shadow demon rested atop the mountain of dead monsters which all closely resembled the horned goblin in some way.

Looking at me, my shadow demon, cocked it's head to the side as it started at me with curiosity and what seemed to be excitement at its masters return.

Jumping down from the top of the pile of dead monsters and landing elegantly on the ground. My shadow demon headed in my direction before it stopped in front of me.

Looking at my shadow demon's glowing purple eyes I immediately understood what it wanted.

Placing my hand on the shadow demon I made it return to it's non-combat form as a two-dimensional shadow.

This was needed due to the fact that I had just assimilated the energy within my body and had, therefore, gotten stronger, but my shadow demon was outside of my body as it got stronger meaning he hadn't gotten more powerful with me, until he rested inside my body first.

I slightly looked behind me at my shadow as I wondered what exactly had gone down whilst I was circulating energy.

「Well it's obvious what happened. A slaughter party.」

The pile of dead monsters was only evidence which proved that my shadow demon had caused quite the commotion and had decided he'd deal with it by himself.

Walking closer to the corpses the light bulb in my brain suddenly lit up.

'Where their monster stones?'

Lessening the distance between me and the pile of corpses, I had remembered that all monsters in this world have a monster stone which I could use.

'Wait didn't the Jackal's Sparrow also have one.'

Rummaging through my pocket to find the monster stone(Core) of the Jackal's Sparrow I found myself come out empty handed.

'Ugh, Did I really forget to get the core from that cursed monster.'

'Well I remember now so it can't get any worse.'

By the time I finished my thoughts I had already reached the pile of corpses. Not caring for the monsters grotesque appearance, I dug my hand into their dead bodies in search of a monster stone.

Why is a monster stone so important, well that should be obvious. It can be sold for money.

But more importantly a core is like the monsters root or the monsters heart which makes it the weakest point on their body. But it's real importance shines once the core leaves the monsters body.

A monsters core can be used to basically inherit the monsters special abilities, physical features, and or the monsters contained energy.

Meaning if you have a flying monster's core and give it to your swimming monster, you have a chance for your swimming monster to also be able to fly.

*****

After I looked through all the monsters I found absolutely no core, which ,in and of itself, was quite peculiar as a monster has a high chance for their core to remain even after death but for all these monsters had no core.

'I should have at least got one core, but none, come on how bad is my luck.'

「Have you not checked you status mister Misfortune 600.」

'Huh, it's only 500 actually.'

「Then check again.」

" What the.. how'd it jump up an entire 100 stat points whilst I was gone!"

「The more misfortune you have the more misfortune you get and that is only amplified because of you being the demon of misfortune, suffering and death.」

"Why am I , a human, the demon of misfortune, suffering, and death instead of a demon inside of the demon realm?"

「Oh because all the demons are dead.」

'Huh?'

"Huh?!?"

[Energy is being forcefully absorbed into your body due to the high energy density around you.]

"Cough"

Falling to the ground I heard the words echo through my head.

I have to stabilize this overflowing energy first or I'll be blown to bits.

Regaining myself I realized what was causing the energy overflow.

This mountain of corpses ,which were all killed by my shadow demon, still had energy and a lot of it too, actually most of the energy from these dead monsters hadn't even escaped before I came along, which explained why the energy was overflowing me.

Returning to my meditating position I started to absorb all the energy from the pile of corpses into my body.

This time the energy didn't move at a sluggish pace but at a steady one as the energy didn't move too fast ,nor too slow.

This is way faster, now I see why most people recommend flowing energy into the mind first to make it easier to circulate energy later.

The overwhelming amounts of energy entered my body and in roughly, less than, two hours I absorbed all the energy into my heart.

[Energy left until the heart awakens 98% complete. 2% needed.]

This heart seriously wants more energy.

'Welp, there's only two ways to go then. Further down the cave until I reach enough energy or back up where there might be more of those cursed birds.'

I think the answer is obvious, deeper down the cave we go.

*****

Venturing as deep into the cave as we could we were greeted by no monsters allowing my shadow demon to rest even longer and me to search longer.

The deeper we went the darker it got but I had nothing to fear because my shadow demon was literal darkness itself.

Despite the eerie feeling of the darkness of the caves, there were no monsters at all.

Standing in front of a double door I put both my hands on it and pushed it open.

We had reached the bottom of the cave and the only thing there was a double door so I had decided to open it, I mean what could go wrong.

Seated on a throne within the room was a Horned Goblin, but no ordinary one, it was a Double Horned Goblin with a crown on it's head symbolizing its strength.

The Crowned Goblin stood up and picked up a sword which leaned on its throne before it catapulted towards me.

I had immediately started to call forth my shadow demon but he wouldn't materialize until a second after the attack hit me so I dodged the crowned goblin's attack by moving to the right, and by the skin of my teeth.

Materializing before me was my shadow demon ready to battle.
