Chapter 118 - The Prophecy That Can Be Changed

"Mr. Creevey, may I borrow these glasses for a while? I believe they could help us defeat the Basilisk."

Dumbledore said gently to Colin.

After sensing the powerful magic contained in these alchemical glasses, Dumbledore understood that the reason Colin had been able to escape the Basilisk's jaws was that these alchemical glasses had resisted the deadly magic of the Basilisk.

Colin hesitated, thinking of the ten signed Harry Potter photographs that Irina had promised him.

At that moment, Professor McGonagall spoke in a deep voice, "Colin, you must understand that these glasses could save the lives of many of your fellow students!"

After hearing Professor McGonagall's words, Colin realized the gravity of the situation. He nodded gravely and said, "Professor Dumbledore, let me leave these glasses with you!"

Dumbledore smiled kindly and then told Professor McGonagall, "Thank you, Mr. Creevey. Minerva, please escort Mr. Creevey back to the Gryffindor common room."

Since Colin had lent his alchemical glasses to Dumbledore, Dumbledore naturally had to ensure his safety to avoid Colin being caught by the Basilisk as soon as he left the Headmaster's office.

Professor McGonagall nodded slightly and left the Headmaster's office with Colin.

"What a terrible life!" Dumbledore set down the alchemical glasses he had been holding, shook his head wryly, stood up, and looked at the phoenix on the shelf, "Fawkes!"

Dumbledore called, and the phoenix Fawkes flew to Dumbledore's arm. With a flash of fire, both Dumbledore and Fawkes disappeared from the Headmaster's office.

The next moment, in the hallway, Lynn and Irina were slightly startled to see a sudden burst of fire a few meters ahead of them, along with Dumbledore and Phoenix Fawkes appearing suddenly in the corridor.

"Professor Dumbledore!"

Lynn and Irina quickly greeted Dumbledore.

Dumbledore responded with a smile, glanced at Lynn and Irina, and then focused on Lynn. "Lynn, Irina, would you come to my office to chat?"

Upon hearing this, Lynn and Irina were taken aback for a moment and looked at each other.

They didn't understand why Dumbledore had called them so late at night.

However, both agreed.

Lynn and Irina took Dumbledore's hands, and with another flash of fire, they appeared in the Headmaster's office in the blink of an eye.

"This is…" Lynn saw the alchemical glasses on the desk.

The moment he saw these alchemical glasses, Lynn understood Dumbledore's purpose for bringing them here.

Noticing Lynn's gaze, Dumbledore sat in the chair with a slight smile, "Colin told me that Irina gave them to him, but I believe this is your work, Lynn. Now, tell me, what is this all about?"

"Black tea," said Lynn.

"Honey water," said Irina.

Dumbledore smiled, waved his wand, and two cups appeared in front of them, filled with their chosen drinks.

Dumbledore looked at Lynn and Irina and asked, "I understand that you learned about the Chamber of Secrets and the possible existence of a Basilisk through some clues on Halloween, and you created a device to protect yourselves. But I don't understand—why did you decide to give it to Colin, and why Colin?"

Although Colin had previously claimed that it was because he liked Harry that Irina gave him the alchemical glasses, Dumbledore, of course, was not so simple as to believe such a lie.

Lynn's lips moved slightly, as if about to say something.

But Irina was the first to speak, taking over the matter and saying, "That's it. Last night, I dreamed that Colin was petrified by a Basilisk. When I woke up in the morning, I felt that this dream was very real, so we suspected it might be a special prophecy. That's why we decided to lend Colin the glasses, hoping the scene from the dream wouldn't come true."

Upon hearing this, Dumbledore nodded thoughtfully and said, "A dream as a prophecy? But... if a prophecy can be changed, can it still be considered a prophecy...?"

Dumbledore had always believed in prophecies; otherwise, he wouldn't have trained Harry so carefully, nor would he have worked so hard to make the contents of Professor Trelawney's prophecies a reality.

But Irina's words made Dumbledore suspicious. If Irina's dream was indeed the so-called "dream prophecy," then what Irina had done had undoubtedly changed the content of the prophecy and made things worse, causing a deviation completely inconsistent with Dumbledore's knowledge.

Dumbledore frowned slightly.

Seeing that Dumbledore seemed to have doubts about Irina's thoughts, Lynn immediately interrupted his line of thought: "Professor, I made these alchemical glasses, and Colin's incident also proves that they were indeed made by me. If they can resist the death magic and petrification magic of the Basilisk, then shouldn't we take immediate action to defeat the Basilisk?"

Dumbledore snapped back to his senses. He looked deeply at Lynn and said, "Your idea is good, Lynn, but we don't know where the entrance to the Chamber is or how to open it. Right now, all we can do is alert the students and try to prevent any further attacks."

"I'll have the professors take turns patrolling the castle to eliminate any suspicious threats. Lynn, can you make more alchemical glasses? If we have enough, even if the professors encounter a Basilisk, they'll have something to protect themselves with."

Dumbledore asked Lynn.

Lynn thought for a moment and said, "Yes, but my energy is limited. With enough materials, I can still make five pairs of alchemical glasses! I am willing to provide them to the Heads of the four Houses, as well as to Professor Dumbledore."

Dumbledore nodded slightly and asked Lynn about the materials needed for the alchemy.

Lynn handed Dumbledore a piece of paper filled with various materials as if he were well-prepared.

After Dumbledore saw the materials on the note, he gave Lynn a meaningful look and then let Lynn and Irina leave with the pair of alchemical glasses on the desk.

"Lynn, Professor Dumbledore gave you a strange look just now... Did you do something?"

After leaving the Headmaster's office, Irina asked curiously.

Upon hearing Irina's words, Lynn chuckled and said, "He saw... Actually, the various materials I wrote on the list are the materials needed to refine five pairs of alchemical glasses. Five times."

Irina said in shock, "Good one, Lynn, you've been wanting to take advantage of the school for a long time, haven't you?"

Lynn spread his hands innocently and said, "What is wool collection? I dedicated five pairs of glasses I made to the school to protect the five professors from the Basilisk. It seems very reasonable to me to get some compensation, don't you think? This is a win-win situation."

Irina complained, "How else could I say you're a Slytherin?!"
