Chapter 102 - basilisk

Gryffindor Common Room.

Harry was telling Irina and others about his promise to Nearly Headless Nick to attend the anniversary of his death party, and he invited all three of them to join him.

"An anniversary of death party?" Hermione said with interest. "I bet there aren't many living people who can say they've attended such a party. It will definitely be an incredible experience."

Ron said with a bit of disdain, "Why would anyone want to celebrate the day of their own death? Sounds pretty unfortunate..."

Irina, who knew the plot, advised Hermione, "It sounds wonderful, but I bet you won't like the anniversary of the death party. Maybe the ghosts serve rotten food covered in white worms..."

At hearing Irina's words, Hermione and Ron both shuddered at the thought.

"Irina, could you stop talking so disgustingly…?" Ron complained.

Irina shrugged and said, "Maybe that's the case! The Halloween dinner on the eve of Halloween is one of the four most luxurious dinners of the year at Hogwarts Castle. The food won't disappoint you! Harry, I suggest you decline Nearly Headless Nick's invitation."

Seeing that neither of the three wanted to go, Harry felt a bit frustrated and said, "But I already promised Nearly Headless Nick..."

Irina gave him a pat on the shoulder and smiled, saying, "Then don't worry, Hermione and I will bring you some food. Maybe there's something interesting there."

Ron nodded vigorously and said, "Yeah, yeah, I'll bring you a big chicken leg!"

It was clear that Ron really didn't want to go to this so-called anniversary of death party.

Reluctantly, Harry gave up on inviting the three of them. In fact, after Irina's words, Harry himself didn't want to go to the so-called anniversary of death party.

But he still had to keep his promise to Nearly Headless Nick.

So, at seven in the evening on Halloween, Irina, Hermione, and Ron happily walked toward the auditorium. Only Harry looked a little depressed as they passed the brilliantly decorated auditorium and headed toward the underground classroom.

On the way, Harry, who was already feeling a little down, felt even worse. In the hallway leading to Nearly Headless Nick's anniversary party, there were small dark candles lit, casting eerie shadows on Harry's face, making him look like a walking corpse.

Furthermore, the closer they got to the anniversary of the death party, the colder the surrounding temperature became, forcing Harry to wrap himself in his clothes.

At that moment, there was a sharp sound like fingernails scraping glass. It seemed like the music for the anniversary of death party. This "yin music" was torturing Harry's ears.

"My dear friends, welcome, welcome... I am so happy you could come..."

The infinitely sad voice of Nearly Headless Nick was heard, and Harry finally arrived at the anniversary of the death party.

Under the ominous sign of those underworld things, Harry had no hope for this so-called Anniversary of Death Party. However, after seeing the long table full of food in the underground classroom, Harry immediately wanted to leave.

What was placed on the long table in beautiful silver dishes was no longer food, but large pieces of rotting meat, blackened burnt cakes, lamb's tripe filled with meat and white milky worms, and a chunk of rancid cheese covered in green hairs.

In the center of the table, there was a gray cake shaped like a gravestone, with Nearly Headless Nick's name and death date written in a frosting that looked like corpse oil.

Just as Irina had said, all the food was covered in worms!

Harry immediately put on a pained expression. He didn't even feel like greeting Nearly Headless Nick, and quickly ran away in the direction from which he came.

Even Peeves, who tried to stop him, couldn't stop Harry, who was running for his life.

In the Great Hall, the young wizards of Hogwarts were enjoying the delicious Halloween feast.

At that moment, Irina saw Harry running from the underground classroom.

"Hey, Harry, why are you back so early? Wasn't the anniversary of the death party interesting?"

Irina, fully aware of Harry's experience, asked jokingly.

Harry still had a mask of pain on his face. He was crying and complaining, "Stop talking, Irina, you guessed it right! That's no place for a living person!"

After hearing Harry narrate his recent experience, Hermione and Ron immediately looked gratefully at Irina. If Irina hadn't helped them avoid the abyss, they probably would have foolishly followed Harry to the so-called anniversary of death party.

"Harry, if you don't eat, these things will probably be replaced with desserts later," Irina reminded him.

Hearing this, Harry got excited and quickly sat down next to Ron. He even grabbed the large chicken leg Ron had just taken and stuffed it into his mouth.

Unfortunately, Harry returned too late. Before he could take two bites, the delicious food on the table disappeared in a few breaths and was replaced by exquisite puddings and other desserts.

Sad and angry, Harry had no choice but to consider these desserts as his staple food and stuffed them into his mouth in large gulps.

But just as Harry was serving himself food, a voice only he could hear sounded in his ears.

"... Destroy you... Destroy you... Kill you..."

This sudden cold voice nearly caused Harry to choke to death. He coughed several times before looking at Ron, Irina, and Hermione beside him with horror and asking, "Did you hear that? There's a voice saying someone is going to kill someone!"

"What sound? Harry, you…" Hermione was stunned.

Harry interrupted, "That voice is back again… Don't talk yet!"

"... I'm starving... It's been a long time... It's time to kill someone..."

The cold voice sounded again in Harry's ears, but Harry realized that Irina and the others seemed completely unable to hear the voice.

The sound grew fainter, and Harry could feel the owner of the voice moving upward, but the ceiling above the auditorium looked like a starry sky, and there was no one there, unless the person was someone who could travel through walls.

"Follow me! That person must be up there!" Harry immediately stood up, trying to prevent the owner of the voice from killing someone.

However, Irina held him back.

Irina looked at the desserts that had disappeared from the long table and the little wizards around them who were getting up to return to the common room, and said, "It's not normal that you can hear sounds we can't. Besides, all the students have already gone in the direction you said, and you're not missing out!"

Irina, of course, knew that the voice Harry couldn't hear belonged to the basilisk of the Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin's Hall at Hogwarts.

And now, Halloween was the day when the basilisk would leave the secret chamber and become a monster for the first time!
