Chapter 32 - Competition among Array Alchemists

Fleur was also slightly surprised and said, "Mr. Rolle, you're not a French wizard, are you? Do you know alchemy?"

Before Lynn could answer, Professor Green smiled and explained to Fleur, "Lynn is my first student, so naturally, he learned alchemy from me."

Fleur was stunned, but Lynn's challenge to compete sparked her competitive spirit.

Moreover, Fleur wanted to see what kind of alchemical skills Lynn possessed to be favored by Professor Green.

"Tell me, how do you compare?"

Fleur shook her silver hair behind her head, crossed her arms, and said.

Though Lynn was a student of Professor Green, he was still two years younger than her and had only been exposed to the magical world for a year. Fleur was confident that she could defeat Lynn.

Lynn lowered his head and thought for a moment, then pulled out two silver swords from his pocket and asked, "If I'm not mistaken, Miss Delacour, you're also trained in alchemy, right?"

Fleur nodded.

Then Lynn suggested, "How about this? You and I will complete the enchantment of these one-handed swords within the specified time. Then, my teacher will control both swords to clash with each other using magical power. Whoever's enchanted sword breaks first will lose. What do you think?"

Fleur thought for a moment and immediately agreed, "No problem. As for the time limit, let's set it to one hour. After all, our time is limited, and Madame Maxime wants to show you the rest of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic!"

With the time limit set to only an hour, both Lynn and Fleur could carve only one alchemical circle at most, and there would be no time for additional carvings. This way, the core of the competition would depend on how well the two of them understood alchemical runes.

After all, without the ability to use multiple alchemical circles working together and complementing each other, the strength of a single alchemical circle would depend solely on the power of the runes it contained.

Lynn and Fleur were both powerful trained alchemists. Even without a formal workbench, they could complete the refinement of the alchemical formation without distraction, simply by crouching on the ground.

Lynn took out his mithril carving knife. He quickly used the mithril knife to carve an energy source symbol and a rune center on the hilt of one of the swords, then began thinking about the alchemical runes he was about to carve.

If it were just the basic attributes of alchemical runes like "sharpness," "strengthening," and "power," Lynn would never be able to defeat Fleur, so he had to come up with something more potent from the alchemical runes he had learned. It also needed to be suitable for engraving on melee weapons.

"I've got it!"

Suddenly, Lynn seemed to have thought of something. He quickly used the mithril carving knife to carve a rune that resembled a wave on the back of the one-handed silver sword, and then carved another rune that looked like two small figures and connected them with a single stroke.

These two alchemical runes represented "air wave" and "copy," respectively. The first one could absorb magical power and release air waves. When applied to a weapon like a sword, it took the form of sword energy and was connected to it. The "copy" rune could duplicate the sword energy, allowing it to attack the enemy alongside the original sword energy.

After completing the carving of the central runes of the two alchemical formations, Lynn checked the remaining time.

Only twenty minutes were left, enough time for Lynn to carve one more alchemical rune, after which he would need to use the last five minutes to connect all the runes and complete the alchemical array.

With no time to think further, Lynn carved a "strengthening" rune on the sword to enhance the two central runes, followed by a thin golden line that connected the three alchemical runes with magical energy, completing the refinement of this alchemical circle.

After completing his alchemical work, Lynn turned his gaze to Fleur.

He saw Fleur holding a small, exquisite mithril carving knife with pink patterns in her hand, carving the final stroke on the one-handed silver sword, finishing her alchemical work.

Both of them presented their alchemical work to Professor Green. Lynn's expression was calm, while Fleur's face was full of confidence.

After confirming that there was nothing missing from either of their alchemical works, Professor Green waved his wand.

A rising magical power emanated from his wand and split into two, controlling the one-handed silver swords refined by Lynn and Fleur, respectively, activating the alchemical circles in them.

The two one-handed silver swords quickly clashed in the center under Professor Green's control. As the two swords were about to collide, the sword Lynn had refined unexpectedly shot out several sword energies out of nowhere.

These sword energies glowed with silver edges and struck the sword refined by Fleur with the force of thunder.

The alchemical circle refined by Fleur seemed to contain defensive alchemical runes. The sword refined by Fleur glowed with a dark golden light, and a golden film appeared on the surface of the sword.

However, more than a dozen sword energies bombarded her sword one after another. No matter how strong the defense of the golden film was, it couldn't withstand such violent attacks.

A beam of sword energy struck the golden film, causing it to shatter. The second sword energy that followed, and even the third and fourth, struck the sword until it broke into pieces.

Even Professor Green hadn't expected that the winner would be decided before the two refined swords even clashed.

"How is that possible?!"

Fleur was a bit incredulous. She understood the power contained in Lynn's alchemical circle, but she never expected that the "air wave" rune would transform into sword energy once applied to the sword!

Lynn stepped forward and extended his hand to Fleur: "I'm glad to have competed with you, Miss Delacour. Could you tell me about your alchemical ideas?"

Although Fleur was defeated, she wasn't discouraged. She took Lynn's hand and explained, "I was thinking at that moment, since our swords were eventually going to clash, the test shouldn't be about the attacking power of the two swords, but their defensive ability!"

"The prerequisite for failure is that the refined sword breaks. So as long as my sword remains intact in the end, I'll definitely win. That's why I planned to refine a defensive alchemical formation instead of an offensive one. But I didn't think you actually engraved the 'air wave' rune on your sword, and it worked, releasing a long-range attack."

Fleur said with a wry smile.

Leaving the outcome aside, Fleur learned a lot from this duel. Sometimes, versatile thinking is the key to alchemy!

The same applies to Lynn's perspective, which is based on the essence of this duel—something that is also worth learning. If he hadn't applied what seemed like an irrelevant alchemical rune, he probably wouldn't have been able to defeat Fleur.

"It was also a pleasure to compete with you. Please call me Fleur from now on!"

Fleur said openly that she was happy to meet someone strong with great knowledge like Lynn.
