[Night time]
Anna sat in the bathroom, her back against the wall and her fingers running through her scattered hair, the weight upon her shoulder was too much to bear and the longer she thought about it, the longer she wished to disappear.
As tears rolled down their cheek leaving a sad trial, Anna tried to catch her breath. Has she been crying for an hour, or two? She has completely lost track of time with all that was on her mind.
Nothing but hurt regret and resentment toward the man who took her to the altar and said " I do" nothing but hatred for herself for having the qualities of a wife but lacking fertility.
"I shouldn't have." She muttered, recalling every single message she read on his phone while he was asleep.
All day, Anna stayed as close to Jack as possible in hopes of catching a glimpse of his password. She was quick to catch the four-digit combination and couldn't wait for him to go to bed.
Past eleven, Jack was fast asleep with his phone on the side table drawer, oblivious to his wife's plot to go through his it for any possible evidence of infidelity. She quickly unlocked with the four-digit combination and went straight for his messages.
His archived messages needed a combination to be unlocked as well, but Anna was in luck because as soon as she input the former combination, it worked. But that was the beginning of her regret.
"Isabel," Anna muttered and wiped the tears of the corner of her eyes. Isabel was the first name on the list, and it stood out because of an unread message that said,
"Good night my love."
She was quick to click on it and didn't even take a second guess. Fortunately or rather it was quite unfortunate that as Anna scrolled through the messages, her heart sank to the button, too deep to be pulled out again.
"My barren housewife," she uttered, words that she never imagined that Jack would type.
"I'd rather be with you than my barren wife." She recalled the full sentence and the tears resurfaced, Clouding her eyes until they could no longer contain it.
"Divorce her, already!"
Even though she didn't know who Isabel was, Anna could picture the face of the lady who convinced Jack to get rid of her, and Jack, being the cheater that she never knew he was, agreed to this by responding.
"Give me some time to do it without hurting her so much."
"Too late Jack! You did such a good job at not hurting me!" She wanted to scream these words, but she went dumb for a second.
With her nostrils full of mucus, and her eyes reddened from crying for so long, Anna picked herself up from the bathroom floor and walked out of the bathroom.
As soon as she set eyes the monster on her bed, she wants to pounce on him and strangle him to death, after all, it is what a monster deserves after wreaking havoc. In Anna's case, her heart was wrecked, shredded into a million pieces that can not be repaired.
After staring at him for what seemed like an eternity, she quietly dropped his phone where she had taken it from and walked out of the room without turning back.
For some reason, she could hear one of Adele's songs playing in her head, Never in her life had she related to 'rolling in the deep' like she did in the moment. Picking up a fruit knife from the cabinet, she muttered,
"I will kill you, Jack,"
Anna stared at the knife for a few seconds, picturing a stain of blood on it, would it be hers? Or would it be Jack's she was yet to decide, but as far as Anna was concerned, one of them would have to take their last breath tonight.
With a deep breath and a hardened heart, Anna returned to the bedroom, and stood by the edge of the bed, on the side where Jack lay asleep, staring at him with so much bitterness.
Anna's heart felt heavy and her hands shook vigorously as she held up the knife, too scared to do what she planned.
"Your blood will not be on my hands Jack," she muttered, unable to believe that she still had a soft spot for the monster in her bed.
"Why do I still fucking want you to live? Huh, why?" This time, Anna's voice was audible, and she didn't know when she screamed,
"Why Jack, why!"
"Anna?" Jack woke up to the sound of her voice, he thought that something had happened to her but what he saw was worse.
"Anna?" He called her name again, this time the fear was evidenced in his voice.
"What are you doing!" He asked, trying to get a bit closer to her, but Anna stopped him.
"If you come any closer to me, Jack I will put this knife through my chest!" She warned him, pointing the sharp end of the knife to her chest.
"Please!" Jack pleaded, he never thought he'd wake up to such a nightmare at midnight, and he wasn't sure what demon had passed his wife.
"Don't hurt yourself I beg you…. Please I'll give you whatever you want Anna, don't hurt yourself pl…
"Shut up!" Anna yelled at the top of her voice.
"Anna…
"Don't you say a word, Jack!" She interjected again, taking the knife even closer to her chest, and out of fear, Jack closed his lip with his fingers, promising to be quiet.
"Isabel is the mother of your child," she said, her voice breaking,
"I'm such a barren wife and you would rather be with her huh? She's the one you spent a lot of money to buy baby items."
"Anna… listen I can explain to you…
"I said shut up!" Anna snapped,
"You are waiting for the right moment, to divorce me so that I won't be hurt. I don't blame you."
She broke down in tears and so did Jack, the atmosphere was tense and they were both sweating profusely even though the standing fan was doing its job.
"Give me the knife, please Anna, just give me the knife, I will explain everything to you as soon as you stop pointing the knife at yourself, please… I love you, don't do…
"Shut up!" She scolded him once again, but this time it appeared as though she was going to stab herself with the knife, so Jack rushed toward her briskly to stop her.
But unfortunately, the deed was done and he swung into action immediately to make sure that Anna didn't lose a lot of blood before he could get help. His heart raced, and for a few seconds, he was confused.
Is she dead yet? Is she still alive? He couldn't tell, but from Anna's perspective, she could feel the energy being drained. She felt no pain when her bleeding body fell to the ground, and looked at Jack before closing her eyes in what seemed to be the end,
