Chapter 13 - Level 20 and the Jackpot

The glow of the dungeon core pulsed brighter and stronger as the system chimed in Ethan's mind.

"Congratulations, Dungeon Core. Level 20 achieved."

The chamber of the core began to vibrate, a low hum moving through the dungeon as power surged through every wall, trap, and monster. Ethan stood in his human form, a rare smile tugging at his lips. Mira leaned casually against the doorway, raising an eyebrow.

"That's a big one," she said. "You've been grinding for this."

"Damn right," Ethan replied. "This isn't just any level-up. It's the first big milestone."

"Level 20 rewards unlocked," the system continued. "Total gacha spins: 30. Initiating enhanced dungeon expansion protocols."

Mira's eyes lit up. "Thirty spins? That's… a lot of chaos in your hands."

"You know me," Ethan said, cracking his knuckles. "Chaos is my middle name."

The First Ten Spins: New Tools of Terror

Ethan shut his eyes and pulled up the mental gacha interface before himself. An ethereal wheel of fortune sprang into existence in a blaze of color before his mind's eye. Sections glittered with untold possibilities. He reached out with a hand and gave a series of rapid pulls, starting.

Spin 1: The Toxin Fang Trap-poisons anyone who springs its mechanism.

Spin 2: A room enhancement: Illusory Maze. A shifting labyrinth that is sure to disorient and confuse.

Spin 3: A new monster: Spectral Warden, a floating, armor-clad phantom with a blade of light.

Spin 4: A special item: Resonance Gem, which enables the communication of Ethan and his NPCs over long distances.

Spin 5: Another monster: Shadow Basilisk, a deadly reptile that can petrify foes who meet its gaze.

Spin 6: A Trapped Treasure Chest, luring adventurers in with gold before unleashing a deadly explosive upon them.

Spin 7: Monster Enhancement Crystals, which would grant powers to weaker creatures.

Spin 8: A Darkforge Room, ideal for forging special weapons and armor for his dungeon denizens.

Spin 9: A new NPC: Torren, a gruff blacksmith specializing in gear repair and enhancement.

Spin 10: Another room: Blight Marsh, a swamp filled with venomous creatures and quicksand-like terrain.

Ethan grinned. "Not bad for the first round. A blacksmith will come in handy."

Mira nodded. "And that Spectral Warden sounds like a pain for anyone to deal with. You're really upping the ante."

The Middle Ten Spins: Strategy and Innovation

Ethan spin again, this time watching the wheel's colorful sections slow deliberately before landing on his rewards.

Spin 11: Soul bound chamber-allied NPC and monsters can get to know each other better and therefore be more cooperative with the team. Spin 12: Healing spring - A room that heals health, but if tainted might act as a trap. Spin 13: Monster: Dire Hydra - a multi-head snake that can regenerate from the heads. Spin 14: Trap: Gravity flare-room in which adventurers experience intensive gravitational shifts.

Spin 15: A Side Quest NPC: Nyra, an enigmatic wanderer who assigns quests to adventurers.

Spin 16: Treasure Room Expansion-the addition of layers of complexity and false leads to the dungeon's endgame rewards.

Spin 17: A Monster Nursery that would allow him to breed and evolve creatures.

Spin 18: Another monster, the Infernal Behemoth-a hulking creature wreathed in perpetual flame.

Spin 19: Dungeon Entrance Upgrade, adding fortified gates and intimidating statues that could attack intruders.

Spin 20: A special reward of Core Resonance Ability, which would allow Ethan to extend his influence beyond the dungeon itself.

Mira whistled low. "That Infernal Behemoth is going to give adventurers the scare of their life."

"That's the idea," Ethan replied. "But the Soulbond Chamber is the real star of the show here. Stronger teamwork between monsters could change everything."

The Final Ten Spins: The Jackpot Nobody Saw Coming

Ethan's anticipation grew as he initiated the final ten spins.

Spin 21: Frost Vortex Trap, unleashing a blizzard upon activation.

Spin 22: A new room: Obsidian Library, where adventurers could unlock dungeon lore—if they survived the guardians.

Spin 23: A Phantom Archer, a spectral marksman with deadly accuracy.

Spin 24: Elemental Wards, enhancing the dungeon's defenses against specific types of magic.

Spin 25: Arena Room, designed for adventurers to face waves of monsters in direct combat.

Spin 26: Special NPC - Rynna, a rare weapon, armor, and potion trader.

Spin 27: Monster Upgrade Scroll, where any monster is upgraded instantaneously to the next higher tier.

Spin 28: A new trap added-Mirror of Despair: It shows adventurers their worst fears to mislead them.

Spin 29: Void Serpent, a lethal and dimension-warping monster.

Then, with a final spin, it shined brighter than before, beginning to spin faster and faster, becoming a kaleidoscope of lights. The dungeon core pulsed in sync with it, filling the chamber with an almost deafening hum.

Mira covered her eyes as the colors finally coalesced into one, brilliant beam, striking Ethan directly.

"Special Reward Unlocked: Human Form Evolution."

Ethan stumbled back as his body shimmered, his senses overwhelming him. The system's voice echoed in his mind.

"New ability acquired: Physical Manifestation. Dungeon Core may now freely inhabit a humanoid form and explore its surroundings without tether restrictions."

Mira stared at him, wide-eyed. "You. you're completely human now?"

Ethan flexed his fingers, feeling the warmth of his skin, the weight of his body. He could still feel the presence of the dungeon inside himself, yet for the first time, he was fully able to separate himself from it.

"Not human," he said, the steadiness of his voice surprising him. "Close, but this changes everything."

A Transformed Dungeon

Ethan did not waste any time in putting his new rewards into place. He placed the Soulbond Chamber and Monster Nursery in various places, allowing for growth and evolution of his creations. The Healing Spring and Blight Marsh made for a deeper level of complexity in his defenses, while the Frost Vortex Trap and Gravity Flare turned once mundane paths into lethal ones.

Kaela and Torren slipped into their roles with unexpected ease, as if made for these jobs. Rynna-the NPC merchant-began selling goods close to the entrance while a few daring adventurers passed nearby.

To Mira, Ethan conjured an abode for her retreat-a room so warm: radiant with dim light and adorned with a small body of crystal clear water and greenery.

"Your own space," he said, watching her expression soften. "No monsters, no traps. Just peace."

She smiled, the rare gesture lighting up her face. "You didn't have to do this."

"I wanted to," he replied. "You've done more for me than anyone."

A World Beyond

As Ethan walked the dungeon in his new form, he couldn't shake the sense of possibility. The Core Resonance Ability hinted at expansion beyond the dungeon's walls. With his evolution, he could explore, build, and connect in ways he hadn't imagined before.

For the first time, he considered the future-not just as a dungeon, but as something more.

Level 20," he said to himself, a slight grin on his face. "Let's see what Level 50 has in store.
