Chapter 36 - Faded Echoes

The room at the Avengers Compound was alive with tension. Steve leaned over a holographic map of Earth projected in soft blue light, while Natasha stood with arms crossed, her expression thoughtful. Logan stayed by the door, always ready for a fight, and Strange paced with deliberate movements, his cloak flowing like liquid shadows. Deadpool, of course, was lounging upside-down in a chair, flipping through a magazine he'd pulled from nowhere.

Harley felt like an outsider—again. It was like being at work, watching a team of experts tackle a crisis, except this time the stakes weren't just profits or budgets; they were universes.

Steve broke the silence. "If Strange is right and Harley's power is destabilizing the multiverse, we need to act fast. We can't afford another Thanos-level disaster."

Harley cleared his throat, raising a tentative hand like a kid in a classroom. "Not to be that guy, but... shouldn't we figure out why this is happening to me first? I mean, what if I'm like a walking multiverse bomb?"

Strange stopped pacing and looked directly at Harley. "You're not far off. The power inside you isn't ordinary. It's ancient, and it's reacting to the fractures in the multiverse. It's as if you're a living conduit, drawing energy from the chaos itself."

Deadpool dropped the magazine, flipping dramatically out of his chair. "Oh no! Harley's a chaos bomb! Quick, someone call insurance and get him a premium plan. Maybe throw in a coupon for anger management classes while we're at it."

Natasha raised an eyebrow. "Do you ever stop talking?"

"Only when I'm unconscious. And even then, it's 50/50."

Ignoring Wade, Strange gestured at the map. "These fractures—dimensional anomalies—are appearing more frequently. Each time Harley's powers manifest, they amplify the instability. We need to trace these anomalies to their source, but we'll need more than just magic. We'll need science, strategy, and..."

"Violence?" Logan growled, cracking his knuckles.

Strange sighed. "Preferably not, but let's be realistic."

Harley's First Step

The conversation was interrupted by a faint buzzing sound. Harley looked down at his hands and realized they were glowing faintly again, a soft silver light pulsating like a heartbeat.

"Uh, guys?" Harley held up his hands, panic creeping into his voice. "This is new."

Strange stepped closer, examining the glow with a furrowed brow. "Interesting. The energy is stabilizing itself this time, adapting to you. It's almost... sentient."

Harley's heart raced. "What does that mean? Am I going to blow up? Grow tentacles? Turn into a supervillain?"

Deadpool leaned in, squinting at Harley's hands. "Ooh, if you grow tentacles, can I have one? For science, of course."

Natasha smacked Deadpool on the back of the head. "Focus."

Steve put a steadying hand on Harley's shoulder. "Take a deep breath. If your powers are reacting to stress, panicking will only make things worse."

Harley nodded, closing his eyes and trying to calm himself. The glow dimmed slightly, the energy retreating like a tide.

"Good," Strange said. "It seems your powers are linked to your emotional state. The more control you have over your emotions, the more control you'll have over your abilities."

"Great," Harley muttered. "So now I have to become a Zen master on top of everything else?"

Deadpool gave him a thumbs-up. "Look at it this way: if you master your powers, you can finally tell Dave from accounting to shove it. Ultimate mic drop!"

Harley couldn't help but laugh, despite the tension. "Thanks, Wade. You're... weirdly helpful."

"That's what they all say!"

A Plan in Motion

Steve turned back to the group. "We need to move. If Strange is right, the fractures will only get worse. The remaining Avengers will meet us here soon, but we can't wait too long. Harley, you're coming with us. If your powers are connected to the anomalies, you might be the key to fixing this."

Harley blinked. "Wait, wait, wait. You're saying I have to help save the multiverse now? I'm just a regular guy! I don't even know how to fight!"

Logan snorted. "You'll learn. Or you'll die. Either way, you're stuck with us now."

Natasha shot Logan a warning look. "Ignore him. We'll train you as we go. You've already survived this long—that counts for something."

Harley sighed, rubbing his temples. "This was not in my five-year plan."

"Neither was saving the universe," Steve said, giving him a small smile. "But here we are."

Deadpool patted Harley on the back. "Cheer up, champ! Saving the multiverse comes with perks. Cool costumes, free snacks, and maybe even a spot in the next Avengers movie. Although, with my luck, they'll just cut my scenes again."

Strange conjured a small, glowing orb and handed it to Harley. "This will help stabilize your energy if it flares up again. But remember: your power is growing. Soon, even this might not be enough."

Harley took the orb, its warmth soothing against his palm. "No pressure, right?"

Strange smirked. "None at all."

As the team prepared to depart, Harley couldn't shake the feeling that his life was spiraling further out of control. But for the first time, he felt a spark of something else—determination.

If the multiverse was counting on him, he wasn't going to let it down.

"Okay," Harley said, standing a little straighter. "Let's save the world—or worlds, I guess."

Deadpool threw an arm around Harley's shoulders. "That's the spirit! Now, let's go find some bad guys to punch. And maybe a taco stand. I'm starving."

As the Quinjet roared to life, the team took off into the unknown, ready to face whatever came next.
