"My name is Kai, and as I mentioned earlier, I am a Pokémon Trainer."
"Brother Kai! Please accept us!"
Annoyed by their persistence, Kai eventually relented.
In his mind, he figured he might not visit Fuchsia City again anytime soon. Besides, it wouldn't take long for these people to forget about him. Agreeing now was just an easier way to stop their pestering.
"I won't be your boss," Kai clarified, "but we can get along as friends.
"Brother Kai is so kind!" Martha exclaimed joyfully. "But today, we've decided to recognize you as our leader! No matter what happens in the future, we'll follow your example, big brother!"
'Follow my example' Kai shook his head and thought, 'As long as you don't betray me or drag me down in the future, I'll consider myself lucky.'
After some time spent talking and handling their enthusiasm, Kai got on his new bicycle.
This time, surrounded by Martha and the others, he continued toward Sunnytown.
The group chatted incessantly along the way, sharing stories of their past.
It was during this conversation that Kai realized the so-called Fuchsia "gang" was nothing more than a loose group of troublemakers.
They smoked, ran red lights, littered, harassed others, gathered illegally, made loud noises, and often had Pokémon battles inappropriately. But the worst offence they'd committed was graffiti on walls.
In truth, they were childhood friends who had formed this group as a way to relieve stress from school and work. Under the leadership of Misha and Martha, they spent their free time riding bicycles and venting their frustrations.
Understanding this, Kai's impression of them softened. For now, at least, they were just ordinary people trying to find a bit of joy in life.
After about an hour, Kai finally crossed the bridge with cheers from the group.
"Brother Kai, don't forget us! Come back to visit when you can!"
"Sure, next time," Kai replied, waving goodbye.
Leaving the group behind, Kai entered Sunnytown's Pokémon Center to recover. Once ready, he resumed his journey toward Saffron City.
When he was alone, Kai contacted Sabrina and Erika again to check on their safety.
As Looker earlier had claimed, they hadn't been attacked. However, Kai urged them to remain cautious.
The sky above was scattered with slow-moving clouds, and occasionally, bird Pokémon flew overhead.
While passing by a field, Kai witnessed a rare sight: a herd of Tauros galloping into the distance under the orange hues of the setting sun.
It reminded him of wildlife migrations he'd seen on TV. He snapped a few photos before continuing his journey.
By nightfall, Kai arrived in a small mountain town called Stone Town. Once a mining hub, it had earned its name due to occasional discoveries of Pokémon Evolution Stones in the area.
The town was quaint, with mostly two- or three-story buildings. As Kai searched for a place to stay, he discovered there was no Pokémon Center in town, as the population was too small for the Pokémon League to establish facilities there.
With no other option, Kai approached the town's only hotel, only to be met with surprising news.
"What? Fully booked?"
"I'm afraid so," the shopkeeper said apologetically. "The last room was just taken a few minutes ago."
Seeing Kai's disappointment, the shopkeeper offered a suggestion. "Hey, you're a trainer, right? There's a manor nearby where they're hosting an Evolution Party. The owner is very generous and often provides free food and lodging to trainers. You might want to try your luck there."
"Thanks. I'll check it out," Kai replied.
Not wanting to camp outdoors, Kai headed to the manor. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he and his Gardevoir caught the attention of the party's hosts.
Three young men in gym outfits approached him.
One, dressed in a yellow vest and pants with lightning-shaped hair, greeted him with a grin. "Another trainer! Are you here to evolve your Pokémon too?"
"Ah, no," Kai explained. "I was hoping to stay the night. I can pay if necessary."
Another, with blue hair and matching pants, waved dismissively. "No need for that! Trainers are always welcome, no matter the reason!"
Kai's attention was drawn to the Pokémon at their feet Eevee evolutions. A Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon stood proudly beside them.
"Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon," Kai mused, recognizing the forms from the anime. So this is where the Eevee brothers live.
Smiling, Kai said, "What a coincidence I have an Eevee too."
"Oh?" The brothers' curiosity was piqued.
"You have an Eevee?" the one in yellow asked eagerly. "What did you evolve it into? Jolteon? Flareon? Vaporeon? Or did you leave it as it is, like my youngest brother?"
Before Kai could answer, they started arguing among themselves.
"It must be a Jolteon it's the strongest!"
"Ridiculous! Flareon is obviously the most powerful!"
"Flareon? It doesn't stand a chance against my Vaporeon!"
Despite being brothers, none of them was willing to concede. After some heated exchanges, they turned back to Kai.
"So? Which Eevee evolution is the strongest?"
Kai smiled, released his Jolteon from its Poké Ball, and replied, "Each Eevee evolution has its own strengths, so there's no definitive answer. That said… if I had to choose, I'd say my Jolteon is the strongest!"
The brothers burst into laughter, and their debate reignited.
