Su Chen constantly reminded himself to stay calm.
He couldn't fight head-on; he had to use his wits. Carefully observing the situation, he searched for a solution.
At this critical moment, Su Chen noticed a warning from the RV World's Night Mode:
[Tonight, the beasts are exceptionally hungry! They're far more vicious than before. Whatever you do, don't let them catch you, or they'll eat you alive]
"What the hell am I supposed to do?!"
The giant spider had been tormenting Su Chen for some time now. Thankfully, only its claws managed to pierce into the RV. Judging from their sharpness, it was clear the spider's claws were particularly deadly.
Despite its aggressive attacks, the RV door showed no signs of breaking. From the looks of it, they were safe for now.
Er Bao stood near the door and was almost caught by the spider's claws. Alarmed, Su Chen quickly grabbed the dog into his arms.
"Er Bao! Ah!"
"Are you okay?"
He checked Er Bao over and over again, nervous as if it were his own life on the line.
Though Er Bao still had his usual fierce expression, it was obvious that the dog was terrified.
When Su Chen had grabbed Er Bao, he caught a glimpse of the spider's claws. He confirmed his earlier suspicion—those claws were highly venomous.
Green mucus coated them, exuding a revolting, sour stench like rancid bread, enough to make anyone gag.
Su Chen wanted to return to his bed and sleep, but the relentless pounding of the spider against the RV door made rest impossible.
At this point, Su Chen decided to check on how others around the world were faring.
He noticed several messages from his friends.
Jiang Susu sent a long message:
("Big Brother, are you okay? There are so many beasts outside, and they're making so much noise, constantly pounding on my RV door. I'm terrified. My sister and I are huddling together and praying we'll be okay.")
Zhang Yuan sent a voice message, trembling as he spoke, clearly terrified.
("Dear god, this is horrifying. There are several tigers outside my RV, pacing back and forth. I think they're sniffing for human scent. I don't dare make a sound, and I'm covering my mouth with both hands. I can't even breathe loudly.")
("If I don't reply to your messages tomorrow, maybe…")
("Bro, can you keep chatting with me for a while? Are you alright?")
Su Chen skimmed through the messages but didn't reply.
Next, he opened the global chat channel.
The chat was buzzing with chaos, filled with people trying to ease their fear by talking.
["Who's outside my RV, banging on the door nonstop?"
"Is it a beast or a monster?"
"A creepy children's song started playing, and I nearly passed out."
"When will it be morning? I'm so terrified of the dark right now."
"Help! My door's about to be torn off!"
"Guys, I'm so scared. Can someone send me a voice message to encourage me?"
"Don't fool around at a time like this! Focus on staying alive!"
"I'm the CEO of a company. Whoever takes care of the beasts outside for me, I'll pay them ten million!"
"Don't we have shovels? If the monsters aren't too strong, we might have a slight chance of fighting back."
"Let's stay in contact. How about we make calls? I don't want to be alone; I'm terrified."
"Someone save me! I'll do anything if you help me. Please! Is there anyone who can lend a hand?"
"There are so many monsters outside! I peeked through my window, and the cold wind kept blowing in. I even saw… a headless monkey pacing in front of my RV. It kept looking around, but it didn't even have eyes."]
The world chat was filled with a terrifying and oppressive atmosphere. Humanity was facing an unprecedented challenge, something they had never encountered before.
Su Chen, just a college student, was equally overwhelmed by the situation and had no idea what to do for the time being.
The chat participants came from all walks of life—students who had never stepped into society, high-level executives busy handling company affairs, arrogant second-generation heirs, and even construction workers.
But here, everyone shared the same identity: a player in this new world. Everyone had started on equal footing.
None of them dared to charge out of their RVs to confront the monsters head-on.
Empty-handed, how could they possibly fight creatures twice their size?
The risks were simply too great. Besides, how many people in this world were lucky enough to possess a perfect-grade shovel?
Even a wooden shovel might break after a few hits.
It was just not a worthwhile trade. So, most chose to stay inside their vehicles, resigning themselves to fate.
Su Chen didn't know if he would end up dead at the hands of the giant spider, but he did know one thing: in a battle of wits, the smarter one wins.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a loud noise broke the silence.
Before Su Chen could react, the RV door dented inward.
The giant spider outside was wreaking havoc, acting as if it owned the place.
To the spider, Su Chen was nothing more than prey already in its grasp.
Seeing this, Er Bao began trembling all over. The dog, who had previously been bold and defiant, now cowered in fear.
"Master… I'm scared. Please save me."
"Quick, get rid of it!"
Er Bao was utterly frightened by the spider. His earlier display of bravado had completely vanished. He now tilted his head, hiding on the bed, watching Su Chen with wide eyes.
Su Chen didn't overthink things. He braced himself for the worst.
Clutching the shovel in his hand, he remained fully alert, his gaze fixed on the door.
"Burn it!"
A sudden idea struck Su Chen. These monsters rarely appeared during the day. Perhaps they were afraid of fire?
He immediately grabbed the leftover firewood from dinner and placed it near the door, lighting a small, flickering flame.
This was his only hope. If the spider broke in, he planned to exploit even the slightest hesitation it showed and strike with his shovel, catching it off guard.
It was also a chance to impress Er Bao, his last glimmer of morale.
Just then, the spider's head burst through the door, its body partially entering and getting stuck near the flames.
Sweat poured down Su Chen's forehead.
"Damn it! Do you think I'm scared of you?"
"In my territory, there's no way I'll let you bully me!"
The moment the spider saw the fire, it flinched slightly. Seizing the split-second opportunity, Su Chen narrowed his eyes and swung his shovel with all his strength.
"Ah!"
With a shrill screech, blood splattered everywhere, some of it landing on Su Chen's face.
The giant spider's head was mercilessly severed by Su Chen's perfect-grade shovel.
Its head fell to the ground with a thud, but its legs twitched reflexively, trembling in a terrifying and gruesome manner.
Even Su Chen wouldn't have expected that he could take such a big step forward.
It was only now that he began to calm down, holding the torch in his hand as he checked the situation outside...
