"Myrtle, have a look at this -" Mabel started saying, only to be cut off.
"I've told you already," Myrtle replied, setting her cup of tea down. "It's Mia."
Mabel sighed. "Alright then, Mia. Have a look at this letter I got."
Mia took the piece of paper from her sister rather aggressively. She scanned the contents of it, and found herself wanting to cry and smile simultaneously. She looked up at her smiling sister, wondering if it was real.
"You're leaving?" She asked, voice trembling ever so slightly.
"Yes, Myr- Mia." Mabel took her shell-shocked sister into her arms, within which Mia immediately turned into a sobbing mess. "It's okay, I'll still visit you."
Their mother, an ample lady with flowing skirts found the sisters tearful and shivering in the main parlor. "Now, Mabel, Myrtle - what's the matter?"
The piece of paper held in a death grip by Mia caught her attention. After gentling prying it out of her hands, she read the words and squealed.
Her daughter had been accepted into a prestigious university with a jaw-dropping scholarship. She was happy, yes, but it's never easy to let your daughter spread her wings.
She gathered her daughters into her arms as a shepherd herds a group of unruly sheep. She consoled them as best as she could, her little Mabel and Myrtle - little Mabel who wasn't so little anymore.
