Chereads / SYLUS / Chapter 44 - chapter:44

Chapter 44 - chapter:44

The weight of the decision pressed down on Rose, suffocating her as the world around her seemed to tilt. The figure's cruel words echoed in her ears, the consequences of her choice spiraling in her mind like an endless storm. Her heart was a battleground, torn between two forces—Sylus, the man she loved, and the world that was slowly suffocating her. The bond between them, stronger than anything she had ever known, had become her greatest prison.

Tears began to fall, the silent trail of pain streaking down her cheeks. She felt as though the walls of the world were closing in on her, and no matter how hard she tried to break free, she was trapped in this inescapable web. The weight of the figure's words crushed her. "She'll become nothing more than a pawn in a game far bigger than either of you."

The thought of leaving Sylus—of breaking that connection between them—felt like tearing out a part of herself. But she also knew that staying meant losing herself entirely. It meant becoming a tool for someone else's game. The thought of being nothing but a key, a pawn, twisted her stomach into knots.

Rose collapsed to her knees, her sobs wracking her body. She couldn't think, couldn't breathe through the suffocating pressure. Her chest felt like it was being crushed under the weight of her emotions, the raw pain of being caught in a world where nothing made sense. She wanted to scream, to fight back, but she was too lost in the whirlwind of her feelings.

"I can't leave him," she thought desperately. "But I can't stay and let them use me. I can't..." Her thoughts spiraled, crashing against each other, breaking apart, reforming, only to fall apart again.

Sylus, who had been standing there, helpless and torn, watched her crumble. His heart broke into pieces as he watched Rose cry, her emotions a tumultuous storm that seemed to drown everything else. He had always thought he was protecting her, thought that by pulling her into this world, he could keep her safe. But now, seeing her like this, he realized how much he had underestimated the consequences of his actions.

He took a step forward, kneeling down beside her, his hand trembling as he reached for her. "Rose," he whispered softly, his voice breaking through her sobs. "Please don't cry. I... I never wanted this for you. I never meant for you to hurt."

She didn't respond at first, her body shaking as the tears continued to fall. Sylus's heart clenched painfully, but he refused to back away. He needed to be here for her. He needed to show her that, even in the face of everything falling apart, she wasn't alone.

With a gentle but firm touch, Sylus cupped her face in his hands, lifting her gaze to meet his. Her eyes were clouded with pain, but there was still that spark of defiance in them, the same strength that had drawn him to her from the beginning.

"Rose," he said again, his voice steady now, though his heart was shattering. "You don't have to choose. I'm here. We'll find a way. I promise you, I'll find a way to fix this. Whatever it takes, I'll protect you."

But Rose could only shake her head. "You don't understand, Sylus," she whispered between her sobs. "I can't stay, but I can't leave either. The bond… it's too strong. It's like a part of me is here with you, and leaving means losing everything."

Sylus swallowed hard, his own emotions threatening to overwhelm him. "I'll never let you lose yourself. I won't let them take you from me."

But even as he said the words, he knew there was something deeper at play here—something he couldn't protect her from, no matter how hard he tried.

The figure's cold voice cut through the air again, and Rose flinched as their words pierced the silence. "Time's running out, Rose. You can't hide from the truth. The bond is stronger than either of you realize. Make your choice now, or I'll make it for you."

Rose's heart stuttered, her emotions rising to a fever pitch as she looked between Sylus and the figure. She could feel the pressure of the choice weighing on her, threatening to crush her. She wanted to scream, to fight, to run—anything to escape the suffocating grip of her own emotions.

But the bond. That unbreakable bond. It was pulling her back toward Sylus, toward the life they had started together. Her heart wanted to stay with him. It didn't want to leave. But her mind… her mind told her that staying would destroy them both.

The tears blurred her vision as she turned away from Sylus, clutching her chest as if to hold herself together. She was lost. She didn't know what to do. "I can't… I can't choose…" she whispered, the words barely a breath on her lips.

Sylus watched her, helpless, his own tears threatening to fall. "Rose, please…" he murmured, his voice cracking. "Don't do this to yourself. We'll figure it out. We always do. I'll fix this."

But Rose could barely hear him over the roaring chaos inside her. All she wanted was to stop hurting, to stop feeling like she was being torn apart. She wanted to be free, but the price of freedom was too high.

The figure's final words echoed in the distance. "She'll make her choice soon. And when she does, there will be no going back."

Rose squeezed her eyes shut, the tears still flowing freely, her heart breaking in ways she never thought possible. She couldn't make the choice. Not yet. And every second that passed only made the pain worse.

Sylus reached out once more, pulling her into his arms, holding her tightly as she sobbed against him. He didn't have the answers. He didn't know how to fix this. But he would be there. He would hold her through the storm, even if he couldn't save her from the world they were both trapped in.

For now, that was all he could do.

And as Rose wept in his arms, she knew one thing for certain: no matter what happened, she would never forget the love they shared.
