Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Move On Its Own

Laurence stared at Ultear as if assessing what she'll do. The group of knights was already wounded and in a disadvantageous situation with a huge number of monsters surrounding them.

Ultear glance back at Laurence. His eyes speaks like, what you'll gonna do now, Princess? Will you help them and expose that you're here in the North instead of your room in the Capital and face the King's anger or watch them as the monsters feed unto their flesh and blood?

"Why should it be me, Lord Verkin? Why don't you help them instead?" Ultear innocently suggested as if she doesn't have a clue with his plan. They look like fools, trying to fooling each other even if they know that they're being fooled.

"I'm a magician, I can't be in the front lines,"

"Then use magic unto them. Like fire them with a fire ball or whatever."

"Heh? That's high level magic, you know?"

"Isn't teleportation magic also a high level one?"

"Nope. It's the basic of the basic of support magic. All I know is support magics and not attack magics."

"You're useless."

"Haha sorry."

"Well, you don't sound like you're sorry at all!" Ultear glare at Laurence which the latter just shrug her off. Ultear scoff before diverting her attention to the group of knights surrounded by a lot of monsters. Their distance wasn't that far but she couldn't clearly see the faces of the knights because the monsters are in her line of sight. Ultear is reluctant whether to help or not. The King will be furious if he knows that Ultear leave the palace without his consent and went to the North of all places. Which is currently the most dangerous place in the whole Kingdom.

There are different types and classification of monsters and beasts but the most common are the Wolf species and Fox species. Sometimes a mix breed of falcon and a lion, Falcion, appear from time to time. Orcs and Ogres also appear but there's only a few of them.

She will surely receive a merciless punishment from the King but on the other hand, if she just watch them die and do nothing, her conscience will haunt her. She then will become a failure of a human being and as a princess.

Ultear bite the inside of her cheeks as she stared at the scene before her, assessing and evaluating the pros and cons. But her eyes suddenly caught a familiar face. A very familiar face where she could even see even if she closes her eyes. Her heart skip a beat as her eyes caught a glimpse of Kurtis's.

He's fighting bravely and courageously despite being wounded and beaten up. He's also protecting someone behind him. A fellow knight who's barely conscious. When a monster was about to jump towards Kurtis blind spot, Ultear's mind become blank as her body move on their own before she could think properly.

Don't you dare! I'll kick you!

Ultear kick the Black Moon Fox that's about to bite Kurtis in the neck. Its head went flying to the other side. The body of the Black Moon Fox drop on the snow covered ground with a thump sound. The monsters and the knights literally stop on their track and stared at her with a confuse and surprise reaction on their faces.

Ultear immediately covers her face using the hood of her winter coat and fix her black scarf. She notice that there were only four knights, Kurtis included, left and the rest were already killed. And all of them are in a pretty bad shape and needed immediately medical attention.

She stood in front of the knights as if protecting them. She could practically feel their gazes, asking who she is. Ultear didn't mind them and take a stance to attack. The ground where she was standing crack. Her speed is inhumane and with just her bare feet and hands, she singlehandedly annihilated every monsters. And in a matter of 8 minutes and 52 seconds the battle came to a conclusion. Princess Ultear Merlione Betania wins!

Her winter coat was now covered with the monster's blood and flesh but her eyes first wander to the group of knights. To know is Kurtis is safe. When she confirms that he's safe, she let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, he's safe.

When Ultear was about to leave someone caught her arms to stop her from leaving. Her heart suddenly jump. Her eyes widen. W...what?

"Wait..." Kurtis is breathless and is having a hard time breathing. Ultear didn't turn to face him. She saw in her peripheral vision, Laurence walk towards the other Knights. He even mouth to Ultear 'go on, have a talk. Make sure to take your time. I'll take care of the others.'

Ultear eyes widen in shock. T-that jerk! He knows about me and Kurtis?

Ultear was about to leave and confront Laurence when Kurtis calls her, her name. A chill run down her spine. She feels like she was caught red handed, doing something bad.

"Tear, why are you here? What's exactly are you doing here?" his voice is lace with worry and anger. He miss Ultear the most and she can more or less protect herself but Kurtis couldn't help but worry about her. The Northern Region is dangerous, filled with hundreds of thousands of monsters and beasts.

"I don't know what you're talking abou--kyah!" Ultear was startled and let out a rather high pitch scream when Kurtis hug her from behind. Her cheeks flush her in embarrassment. "W-what are you doing! I was so shock I even screamed like a little girl, you know? Stop it Kurtis or I'll kick you!"

Kurtis let out a small chuckle and buried his face in her neck. His breathing is heavy and erratic.

"You don't need to deny, I can tell even from afar that it is you, Tear. What are you doing here? Ahh, nevermind that, who cares. I really so damn missed you so much. I even want to pull the days and make it spring now, so that I can see you again. I hate winter. I hate all the things that separate you from me, Tear."

Ultear sigh in defeat. "Alright, I get. I miss you too, Kurtis. Think you can release me now so we can check your wounds?"

"What wounds? I'm perfectly fine. No monsters can...ouch! Hey that hurts!" Kurtis complain when Ultear touch his ass.

"You said you're fine? Why are you wincing now?"

"Fine, it actually hurts."
