Chapter 11 - Jealous Friends

Nita had just finished lunch and intended to sit on the terrace while enjoying her snacks, suddenly the sound of Uncle Tio's sports motorbike was heard. The man stopped right in front of her rented house while smiling at Nita, but the girl returned it with an awkward smile. It was unusual for her to see Uncle Tio with a normal look, but this time after the man got too close to April. Nita became suspicious. The girl glanced inside the house to make sure something, it was already three in the afternoon and the man had just come home after dropping April off. Nita knitted her eyebrows together while watching Uncle Tio enter the house. "Where have you been since one in the afternoon? Wow, what's wrong!" Nita's negative thoughts flew everywhere, thinking about all the possibilities that had just happened between Uncle Tio and April until this afternoon. Even in an hour they would meet again on the volleyball court. "Aren't you bored of meeting each other every day?" Nita babbled, then the girl went back inside the house to prepare for volleyball practice this afternoon. While Tio was in his house, feeling that Nita's view of him was now different. Maybe his relationship with April made the girl's friends uncomfortable. Behind the glass window, Tio could clearly see what Nita was doing in her room. Because Tio and Nita's houses were next to each other, Tio could hear all of Nita's chatter in her room which happened to be next to Tio's room. The man drank water from a bottle that he had just taken from the refrigerator, while listening to Nita's conversation with her friend named Amy. Who knows, Tio didn't know all of April's friends very well. "You're only home at three in the afternoon, what were you doing?!" "Well, maybe you were visiting April's house, Nit. You shouldn't say things like that if you don't know anything!" "But from one in the afternoon, until three in the afternoon. Just think about it!" "Maybe they stopped by the meatball stall, just ask April directly! Why are you asking me, do I care about their relationship. I'm still single!" "Hah! You don't care about your own friends." "It's not that I don't care! Well, if April herself is fine and feels happy, why would we bother. It's different if April is crying hysterically, then we'll help her." "Okay, I can't be bothered talking to you!" Tut... Tio leaned against the wall after taking off his hoodie and shirt, wearing only jeans with his bare chest while drinking mineral water accidentally overhearing Nita's conversation with her friend named Amy over the phone. "Hah!" Tio took a deep breath, today was so hot. His body was sweating because the weather was very hot, and now he had just heard something that made him even hotter. Maybe he should keep April away from her toxic friends, otherwise small things like this could ruin their relationship. Moreover, April was still a teenager and unstable, her thoughts could change at any time. Tio was worried that April would change her mind and end up breaking up with him unilaterally. Tio took his cellphone from his pants pocket. He dialed the number that was his priority every day. "Uncle Tio?!" The man smiled hearing the friendly voice that always made him smile, sounded cheerful and full of enthusiasm. This is one of the things that makes Tio feel at home while living in this city. "What are you doing?" Tio sat on the living room sofa while turning on the television. "Getting ready to go to volleyball practice, Uncle!" "Oh, yeah. It's already half past four, huh? I didn't realize it, Uncle will pick you up later, okay?" Tio said. "Yes Uncle! It's unusual for April to call at this hour, even though we just met." "Hmm, I still miss her!" Tio said, April was sure that her face must be as red as a boiled crab after hearing what the man had just said. "Oh yeah, how was school with your friends?" Tio asked, trying to find out how the girl's daily life was at school after her friends found out about their relationship. Moreover, now Tio picks April up after school almost every day. A sigh was heard from the phone line, from here Tio began to realize that something was wrong with the girl. "Those two friends of mine, I don't think they like our relationship, Uncle." April said, her voice not as cheerful as before. As if disappointed and sad, Tio who heard it was also sad. "Who are those two?" Tio asked pretending not to know. "Amy and Nita, especially Nita." "What did he say?" Tio asked curiously. "Well, basically they don't like me dating Uncle Tio. Because Uncle is an adult, things like that!" "Oh, so that's just because of that. So what did you think?" "I didn't respond, I just left!" April said innocently, Tio almost laughed hearing it. "According to April, is there any truth to what my friends said?" Tio asked again, this time the girl was thinking hard. "I don't think so, because Uncle Tio never asks for anything, right?" April said. Not yet... Tio replied in his heart. "Okay, Uncle will come over to the house again tonight. We'll talk about this." Tio said. "But later pick April up at the volleyball court, right Uncle?" "Yes... Uncle wants to change clothes first." "Okay, bye Uncle!" The phone call was then cut off, Tio kept smiling. It was as if April had turned his life around to be more colorful, it seemed that having a relationship with a teenage girl was better than an adult woman who already understood the meaning of love and cheating. Currently, Tio ignored several calls from women who had been close to him, just because of an innocent teenage girl who didn't know anything. Tio then rode his sports motorbike again after changing clothes, heading to April's house to pick up the girl. Wearing a tight t-shirt and tight training pants, Tio immediately frowned in surprise. "Why are your clothes so tight?" Tio said, judging, April then looked at the clothes he was wearing. "I've often worn these clothes for volleyball practice." April said. "Yes, but they don't look good. You can see everything!" Tio added while holding April's shoulder so that the girl would turn around. "Go change first! A little looser." "A loose housedress." April replied. "This kid, even though you told him, he just answered!" Tio asked, April just grinned and went back inside to change clothes. Maybe according to April, Tio was like that because he was caring and didn't want April to be seen by many people wearing tight clothes. But in reality, Tio didn't want his girl to be the target of naughty men's glances like her friends.
