Scarlett stopped in her tracks as a low hum reverberated through the tunnels behind them. She turned to Ellen and Henry, who exchanged tense glances.
"What is that?" Scarlett asked, her voice edged with urgency.
Ellen's eyes narrowed, her jaw tightening. "Something's been triggered. We need to check it out."
Scarlett hesitated, her instinct screaming to keep moving, but the urgency in her mother's tone was undeniable. With a reluctant nod, she followed them back toward the factory's core.
When they entered the main chamber, the glow of the monitors was harsher now, casting long shadows across the room. On one of the larger screens, red text pulsed ominously: "West Genetic Protocol – Active."
A smaller console nearby emitted a rapid series of beeps, and Scarlett approached cautiously. The screen displayed lines of code, waiting for a prompt.
