The narrow hallway felt suffocating as Scarlett and Nathan stood their ground. Alex's smirk widened; his confidence bolstered by the armed men nearby him. Scarlett clutched the ledger tightly, her mind racing. This was the evidence they needed, but escaping with it seemed impossible.
Nathan's voice cut through the tension.
"You've lost, Alex. This ledger exposes everything." Nathan said scanning the surrounding for a way to escape Alex and his men.
Alex chuckled, his tone mocking. "You think Grayson will let you walk out of here alive? You're playing a game far beyond your league." He said with a smirk on his face.
Scarlett stepped forward; her voice steady despite the fear clawing at her chest. "If you're so confident, why haven't you destroyed the ledger already? What are you waiting for, Alex? I thought you could be trusted but I never knew you are a complete piece of shit." Scarlett said her voice barely above a whisper yet, very firm.
