Chapter 9 : A Symbolic Rejection
Nicole's eyes narrowed as she gazed at the diamond necklace. Tyler's gesture reeked of manipulation. Why was he so eager to get her involved in a partnership with his company?"
With a decisive motion, Nicole placed the necklace back in its box and called Emma.
"Please return this to Tyler Winslow with a note," Nicole instructed.
Emma's eyebrows rose. "What should the note say?"
"Thank him for the gesture, but I'm not interested in receiving gifts," Nicole replied.
Emma nodded and left.
The next morning, Nicole received a call from Tyler.
"Nicole, I understand your message," Tyler said, his tone measured. "But know this: I don't give up easily."
Nicole's resolve hardened. " Mr Tyler, I appreciate your interest, but my decision stands. Melbourne Enterprises will not partner with Winslow Enterprises."
Tyler's pause was brief. "Why being so formal. I respect your decision, Nicole. For now though."
The line went dead.
Nicole felt a sense of relief wash over her.
Later that day, Rachel arrived at Nicole's office, concern etched on her face.
"Nicole, I heard about Tyler's gift. Are you okay?"
Nicole smiled wryly. "I sent it back. I won't be swayed by his tactics."
Rachel nodded. "You're strong, Nicole. But be cautious. Tyler's not one to give up."
Nicole's eyes locked onto Rachel's. "I can handle him, Rachel but why have you been so involved and talking about Tyler lately though?"
" Uhm, nothing. I'm just looking out for a friend... Rachel said, eyes darting around.
Just then, Emma interrupted.
"Nicole, your father wants to see you."
Nicole's gut tightened. What did Edward Melbourne, that father of hers want now?
