The next day.
Satoru made his way to the river behind Nanhe Temple, nestled in the mountains.
Moments earlier, using his Six Eyes, he had spotted Uchiha Shisui.
His condition was dire—one of his Sharingan had been gouged out by Danzo.
Oh, right. The other one had been taken by himself.
"Tsk," Satoru muttered.
"Is the Sharingan a collectible or something? Everyone just goes around plucking them out."
He sighed as Shisui, heavily injured, tumbled from above. Satoru reached out and caught him mid-fall.
"Hey!" he called out mockingly. "Falling objects aren't acceptable! Especially not where there are flowers and plants growing. Show some respect!"
Shisui blinked in surprise, realizing he had been saved.
Who could it be? His actions were always meticulous and secretive. There shouldn't have been anyone who knew about this, let alone someone willing to intervene.
Was this all just a coincidence?
He grew wary.
Then, he heard a familiar voice.
That brat? What is he doing here? How could he just happen to save me at this exact moment?
Suspicious thoughts filled Shisui's mind, but he didn't have time to act on them before Satoru yawned lazily, speaking in his usual tone.
"Shisui, are you trying to martyr yourself?" Satoru teased. "This kind of drama doesn't win girls over anymore, you know. And no, there aren't any treasures or wise sages waiting for you at the bottom of the cliff."
Shisui twitched at the corners of his mouth.
What kind of nonsense was this?
Seeing his life hanging by a thread, Satoru's response was… this?
"What are you doing here?" Shisui finally asked, still confused.
Given the Uchiha clan's assembly today, Satoru should have been there. What brought him to this isolated place instead?
"You should be at the meeting," Shisui continued.
Satoru stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"I didn't think you had such high expectations for me," he said, his tone smug.
"Why would I attend such a long, boring meeting? That's not my style."
He looked entirely too pleased with himself.
Shisui couldn't help but smirk.
Does he really think skipping the meeting is some kind of achievement?
"You—"
Before Shisui could finish his sentence, Satoru cut him off abruptly.
"Your eyes… Danzo took them, didn't he?"
"...!"
Shisui's expression froze. Shock flickered across his face, and his breathing quickened.
How does he know?
This was information only a select few were aware of—not even the Hokage knew the details. Only Itachi and Shisui himself should have known.
How could someone so unreliable suddenly know something this sensitive?
Shisui recalled that Satoru was typically assigned simple tasks, rarely exposed to darker, covert missions. By all logic, he shouldn't have been able to deduce this so quickly.
But then, a memory surfaced.
Satoru had mentioned before that Danzo might covet his eyes. At the time, Shisui had dismissed it as vague speculation, but now…
Was he already suspicious of Danzo back then? How sharp is this guy?
Shisui laughed bitterly, half in jest. "I suppose my eyes were just too tempting for his collection."
Even in his weakened state, Shisui's spirit remained strong.
Satoru tilted his head, his expression a mix of exasperation and disbelief.
"Tsk," he muttered. "I told you he was a collector, but you didn't listen."
Shisui sighed. "I didn't think he'd actually go this far…"
He had believed Danzo would still uphold some level of morality. But the sudden betrayal? The blatant theft?
And the thought of Danzo implanting the Sharingan into himself… Shisui's face darkened.
Has he really sunk to this level of paranoia and madness?
Satoru smirked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"With old relics like Danzo, anything's possible."
Without waiting for permission, he pulled out a bandage and began treating Shisui's wounds.
"No need," Shisui said weakly. "Maybe my death would mean more. At least then, everyone would see Danzo for what he truly is—someone who betrays even his allies."
Satoru paused, then tugged the bandage tighter than necessary.
"Ahh!" Shisui winced.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Satoru asked, his voice tinged with irritation. "So this is your big plan? To die and teach everyone a lesson?"
He shook his head in disbelief.
"Meanwhile, you're just making Itachi's life even harder." Satoru glanced up toward the cliff, where he knew Itachi was likely watching from the shadows.
Shisui remained silent, his thoughts conflicted.
Satoru, however, simply smirked.
With everything in motion, the pieces of his own plan were falling into place.
He wouldn't let the likes of Danzo—or anyone else—get the upper hand.
