Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: The Gathering Storm

A World on Edge

The news of the labyrinth's collapse and the Abyssal Core's disappearance spread like wildfire. Across continents, powerful factions, celestial families, and secret organizations shifted their focus to Jin Shang. Alliances were being discussed, schemes were being plotted, and the world teetered on the edge of chaos.

At the Celestial Syndicate's headquarters, an emergency council convened. Seated around a massive, glowing table were the remaining celestial family leaders: Thomas Boaris, exuding raw physical power; Chris Walker, his fiery red eyes and hair flickering like a constant inferno; Park Hae In, whose tranquil demeanor masked razor-sharp insight; and the aged but calculating Mr. Singh.

"This changes everything," Chris began, his fiery aura pulsing with agitation. "The Abyssal Core has found a host, and not one of us. If Jin Shang wields its power, he's a threat to the balance we've maintained."

Park Hae In spoke next, her calm voice steady but ominous. "Threat or not, we cannot ignore him. If he's aligned with the Abyss, it could tip the scales. Titans, Specters, even dormant gates—we've struggled to keep them in check. The Abyss could awaken them all."

Mr. Singh, his eyes gleaming with wisdom, interjected. "Before we act rashly, we must gauge his intent. Send emissaries, but ensure they're prepared. If he's a threat, we eliminate him."

Thomas Boaris, the most imposing figure at the table, finally stood, his voice a deep rumble. "If he's dangerous, I'll handle him. No man should wield that kind of power unchecked."

The First Challenger

Meanwhile, Jin Shang and Lia had retreated to a modest hideout on the outskirts of Arcadia, a neutral city amidst the global chaos. The tension was palpable as Lia paced the small room.

"Jin, the world knows about you now," she said, her voice edged with worry. "The celestials, the Syndicate, rogue Specters—they'll all come for the Abyssal Core. We need to stay hidden."

Jin sat by a dim lantern, his gaze fixed on his hands as the Abyssal energy within him pulsed faintly, like a second heartbeat. His voice was calm but resolute. "Let them come. The Abyss isn't just power—it's a responsibility. If they want it, they'll have to prove they're worthy."

Before Lia could respond, a deafening crash shook the building. The walls splintered, and a wave of searing heat engulfed the room. Jin instinctively shielded Lia with a barrier of Abyssal energy as a figure emerged from the wreckage, his crimson armor glowing and flames licking at his heels.

"Jin Shang," Chris Walker declared, his fiery eyes burning with righteous fury. "You've claimed the Abyss, but you don't understand its danger. I'm here to ensure you don't become another disaster."

Jin stood, his expression calm but unyielding. "If you've come to talk, speak. If you've come to fight, prepare for regret."

Chris smirked, flames igniting around his fists. "You don't understand what you've unleashed. I'll make sure you don't live long enough to regret it."

A Battle of Flames and Shadows

The air around them ignited as Chris unleashed a torrent of flames, the heat warping reality itself. Jin countered with a surge of Abyssal energy, shadows swallowing the flames and spreading a deathly chill.

Chris moved like a wildfire, his fiery attacks tearing through the space around him, but Jin danced through the inferno, his Abyssal energy bending space to evade each strike.

"You're strong," Chris admitted, his flames intensifying. "But power without control is a recipe for destruction."

Jin remained silent, focusing his energy. He created a vortex of shadows that drew Chris in, the sheer pull of it threatening to consume him. Chris roared in defiance, erupting in a blaze of fiery energy that dissipated the vortex.

Their clash escalated, each attack shaking the earth beneath them. Lia watched from the sidelines, her heart pounding as she saw the Abyssal Core within Jin reacting erratically, as if feeding off the conflict.

The Turning Point

Chris prepared his final assault, gathering his flames into a massive pillar of fire that lit up the night sky. "This ends now!" he shouted, hurling the inferno at Jin.

Jin raised his hand, his Abyssal energy forming an impenetrable barrier that absorbed the fire. In a single, decisive motion, he redirected the energy, channeling it into a concentrated strike that knocked Chris to the ground.

Standing over his defeated opponent, Jin spoke with quiet authority. "This power isn't what you think it is. It's not a weapon—it's a burden. I won't let anyone take it, but I also won't abuse it."

Chris, battered but alive, looked up at Jin with a mix of frustration and newfound respect. "You're stronger than I thought," he admitted. "But this isn't over. The others won't be as forgiving."

---

A Growing Threat

As Chris retreated, Lia approached Jin, her resolve hardening. "That was just the first. More will come."

Jin nodded, his expression unreadable. "Then let them come. I won't run."

Unbeknownst to them, high above in the shadows, Park Hae In observed the battle with a faint smile. "You're much stronger than I expected, Jin Shang," she murmured to herself. "Very soon, we will meet."
