Chapter 4 - A Stranger in my Life

In the car, Liam Anderson hesitated to speak, only able to observe Alexander Cole and Isabella Sheffield through the rearview mirror. He had only left for a few minutes, and the president had already gotten his marriage certificate. The speed was truly impressive.

"Where do you live? We'll go get your luggage," Alexander didn't plan to explain to Liam and turned his head to ask Isabella.

"Huh?" From the moment she got in the car, Isabella's gaze had been fixed on that cup of coffee, not knowing what she was thinking. She paused and then reported her residence.

"You live in a hotel?" Alexander wondered curiously.

"Yes, my home is in Modesto. I came to the capital for work, and I haven't had a chance to find a place yet," Isabella explained without hesitation.

Of course, work was the main reason; a minor reason was because of Ethan McMillan.

Alexander didn't ask anything else.

An hour later, Isabella got out of the car in front of an old villa. Immediately, two people came out from inside—a man and a woman, both in their forties.

"Young master, young lady, welcome back." The very affable steward helped Isabella carry her luggage into the house.

Isabella was stunned, somewhat at a loss. The environment here was too unfamiliar, including the people.

"Let's go." Alexander seemed to see Isabella's difficulty in adjusting, naturally took her hand, and walked into the house. He took the opportunity to explain the relationships of the people here.

In the villa, there were no other servants, only the steward, Uncle John, and his wife, Auntie Sandra. They had watched Alexander grow up.

Standing in the bedroom, Isabella furrowed her brows. This was obviously the master bedroom, yet the steward unexpectedly put her things here. Did she have to share a room with this man?

"Settle your things first, I'll go to the study to handle some things. You can rest if you're tired," Alexander said while standing at the door, his face expressionless.

As Alexander was about to leave, Isabella firmly stopped him.

"Do you have any other questions?"

"I... am I going to live here? Share a room with you?" Isabella asked uncertainly.

"Hmm, we are newlyweds. Don't you want to share a room with me?" Alexander raised his eyebrows, a hint of amusement on his face.

"Haha," Isabella forced out a laugh. Well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. She had to put up with it. Also, he had promised to respect her, so he probably wouldn't do anything to her.

She shook her head and started to tidy up her things industriously.

After tidying up, it was already past 7 p.m. She had dinner, returned to her room to wash up, and quickly succumbed to her day's fatigue.

Although she found it a bit difficult to sleep in a new place, overall, she slept quite well. She had intended to wait for Alexander to finish his work, but she ultimately couldn't overcome her sleepiness and fell asleep early. She had no idea when Alexander retired to bed.

When she woke up the next day, Alexander was no longer by her side. Isabella messed with her disheveled hair and sluggishly got ready. She went downstairs still in her pajamas and saw Alexander having breakfast in the living room. He was also reading the newspaper.

Hearing her footsteps, Alexander placed his paper down and looked at Isabella, casually saying, "Awake, huh?"

Initially still groggy, Isabella, hearing Alexander's voice, instantly became fully awake. She moistened her lips and nodded. "When did you go to bed last night?" she asked while eating the breakfast Auntie Sandra had brought her.

"Around midnight, I think. Can't remember," Alexander replied after taking a sip of milk. He paused for a moment before asking, "By the way, where do you work?"

From their earlier conversations, Alexander remembered Isabella mentioning that she had come to the capital for work, but she never expressly stated what it was. So, he casually inquired.

"I'm an intern at Stellar Entertainment. I'll report to work tomorrow."

Isabella had had an interest in acting ever since she was a child. The way acting allowed one to experience different lives greatly intrigued her. However, her family was against it, insisting that the entertainment industry was a cesspool of destructive influences and she would be sucked dry.

She had covertly signed up when Stellar Entertainment held a call for interns. Originally, she had intended to simply experience the process, but to her surprise, she was selected. It appeared her luck was quite good.
