"Erm, if you don't mind me asking, why do I need to go to school?"
Father Darren doesn't know how he should phrase it to make Michael accept the answer.
"You see…This morning, the headquarters sent some guy here to assign us a mission. There seems to be a kidnapping case going on here."
Kidnapping? Then report to the cops. Why are you telling me this?
A few days had passed since Michael had transmigrated to this world. So far, everything he has experienced has been outrageous to him. Even though his mind already knows this is one of the outrageous things, he still finds it hard to accept it.
Father Darren continues, "I believe you already studied what we chaplains do. The headquarters believes this case might be the type of case we need to handle. And you know I had all this work I needed to handle; thus, the headquarters deem you qualified to handle this case."
What…..WHAT!?
For a moment, Michael was information overloaded. Before he came here, when he was in the library reading, he had a brief understanding of what precisely the 'chaplain' they mentioned did.
Based on what he read, the chaplain's job was to hunt down the creatures mentioned in the fairy tale book he had just read. Some creatures exist in the world that can't be explained, and they are hidden in human society. These creatures could harm humans. Thus, the chaplain's job is to hunt down these creatures whenever they identify them.
Michael then says, "I understand what you just said, Father. But aren't I just awakened?"
"Yeah, that's true, but the headquarters already knows about the training you received from me when you were trying to become The Oracle."
What training? That is the original Michael! Not me, I'm still clueless!!!!!
But Michael couldn't say what was on his mind right now cause that just made him suspicious. Most importantly, he still hasn't found the murderer yet.
"Fine, I understand. I will do exactly what you say, Father."
Seeing Michael accept it without any hesitation, Father Darren is pleased with it, but at the same time, he is worried.
"Great. But don't you worry, I already made some agreement with the headquarters for you to work on this case. All you need to do is investigate and find out the real identity of the kidnapper. After that, just inform me, and I will take care of the rest."
"I understand."
Father Darren then brings out the document given by Father Francis and Father Josh.
"Here's the information you need before you enroll in the school. The last person who was kidnapped was Lorrie Read. Your priority is to find out where she is located." said Father Darren, especially when the part mentioned Lorrie; his tone became much more profound.
Michael also noticed it, but he didn't know why Father Darren said it like that. But he couldn't care less cause all he understands is to find out who the kidnapper is, and his job is done.
"Alright, that's all for now. You may read the documents and prepare your belongings. You will be in school starting tomorrow. I will handle your enrollment right away now."
Michael was surprised by what Father Darren just said.
Starting tomorrow??? Doesn't the enrollment need a few days to process?
After transmigrated to this world, excluding the superpower part, Michael noticed this world isn't much different from his old world. This is precisely the earth he knows. One of the differences he noticed is that the god of this church. At first, he thought this was Christianity, like the one in his old world.
But after reading at the library, he found out the god they prayed to was not the same as the god of his old world. Instead, the god they prayed to was called the God of Creation, Aeterion.
….
After a few minutes of walking, he reached his bedroom. The first thing he does is to jump right into his bed. Even though the talk with Father Darren didn't take much time, he felt exhausted.
From all the information he had just received, he had a headache.
Ugh, I still haven't found the murderer, and now I need to work on a case. Everything was such a hassle.
Michael was annoyed with problem after problem. However, he knew his priorities right now: He needed to gather as much information as possible about this world if he wanted to survive.
"I can't believe even after transmigrating to a new world, I still need to go to school," Michael murmured, letting out a small laugh.
When he heard Father Darren, he was able to let him enroll in school by tomorrow. Michael is already starting to doubt that the church's authorities might be higher than he imagined.
Seeing there was still time left, he went on and grabbed the document given by Father Darren. He read it while lying on his bed.
"The latest victim, Lorrie Read. She went to Silvergate High School. Her family reported that the last time she was seen was when she went out with her friends, but until midnight, there was still no contact from her."
Hmmm… The clues I had were few; the only breakthrough I could get was from her friends. They must be from the same school…I guess I can only continue to work on this case tomorrow.
Just when he was going to have a rest, he heard a knocking sound from his door.
Toc..toc..toc
"Are you in there, Michael?"
Michael had heard this voice before. His voice is very charming and confident; this guy is Kaiden.
"Yeah, I'm inside. Come in. The door is unlocked."
When getting a confirmation from Michael, Kaiden then opened the door.
"Sup, is there something you need?" said Michael.
Kaiden was stunned for a second. He didn't expect Michael to speak this comfortably with him. Even though they are best friend, the way the original Michael spoke was very formal. So, how Michael speaks right now shocks him.
But that's not the point; the main reason Kaiden found Michael was to say goodbye.
"Umm…Yeah, there's something I need to tell you. So, you know I had awakened The Oracle, right…." Kaiden hesitated when mentioning the word 'Oracle'. He knows that awakening The Oracle was Michael's dream, and he is scared that Michael would hate him for awakening it. But all his worries were for nothing cause the person infront of him was not the original Michael he knew.
"Yeah."
"This morning, people from the headquarters came by. I guessed Father Darren informed them about me. Just not long ago, they came in contact with me. They told me they would bring me to the headquarters tomorrow morning. They said I will receive the training I need there. So, I'm here to say goodbye."
"I see. Well, that's good for you. I'm happy for you," said Michael with a smile on his face.
Kaiden was a little shocked at how Michael responded. He was relieved Michael didn't grow hatred toward him, but he didn't expect he would be happy for him. Kaiden felt joy that this awakening didn't ruin their friendship.
"I'm glad to know that. Anyway, let's talk about you. What's your plan? Do you know what kind of training you will be receiving?"
"Oh, me? I'm going to school starting tomorrow." Michael replied it usually.
"I see…."
"WAIT WHAT!? GOING TO SCHOOL????"
Kaiden went speechless for a moment. He couldn't believe what he just heard.
