Chereads / The Alpha King Kai Silver / Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Several months had passed since I ran away from my life and the Alpha King. I now lived in an apartment with a roommate named Kara. I continued to go by the name Renley, but I changed my last name to Smith and I told everyone that I was a human. Kara never asked about my past and we were becoming good friends. We were sitting on the couch, watching the news. Right now it was about the continuing search for the Alpha King's wife. They talked all about the money and resources that the Alpha King poured into this search. Why did he want me so badly? I touched my chest, feeling the bond. Even though the bond was weak, I could feel that he was far away. I remembered that night well. The wedding, the pool, and all of the running I did. I remember hiding in the trees and bushes on the side of the road when I saw cars coming. It had been a long several days and it didn't get better for a while. I met Kara after living on the streets for three weeks. She brought me here, gave me clean clothes, and got me a job. She was the first person to make me feel important.

"I hope they find their Luna." Kara said, snapping me out of my head. I blinked, looking back at the TV. "What do you think happened? Do you think she was kidnapped?"

 "No." I answered.

"Well, what do you think happened?" She looked at me.

"She couldn't have been kidnapped. Not with the Alpha King's security guards there. She had to have run away." I explained.

"Why would she do that? Isn't the Alpha King, like, all powerful and rich?" She made a 'you're stupid' expression.

"Maybe she was scared." I shrugged, pulling my leg closer to my chest.

 "Of what?"

"I heard that her father and the people of her pack abused her. She was covered in bruises according to the Alpha King's interview." I motioned to the TV, remembering the interview. "Maybe she was afraid that the Alpha King would hurt her, too."

"What do you know about wolf hierarchy?" She put a leg up on the couch. I shrugged again, sweating a little. "And you were covered in healing bruises when I found you. You could be that Luna for all I know."

 "I'm human, though." I lied.

"That's true." She sighed. "Would you still love me if you were, though?"

 "Of course." I smiled.

"Good." She smiled back. "I'm headed to bed. Don't stay up too late." She stood and went to her room. I exhaled deeply, looking at the picture of Kai on the TV. For some reason, my heart ached. I turned off the TV and stood. There was no way I was going back to that life.

A year and a half had passed since I ran away and I moved up in my job. The search for me still went on, but news reporters were sure that I was dead. Luckily they never showed a picture of me. There weren't many people with white hair and my name. Sometimes I felt bad, knowing that there were going to be people that acted like they were me so that they could reap the benefits of being a Luna. My bond was getting weaker and I knew that Kai was losing hope. I was surprised that he hadn't found another Luna yet. Word was that he was going all over the world to run his business. I had done good to avoid any search parties or news outlets. When I woke up this morning, I felt different. The pull was stronger that it had been all year. I decided that there was no way that he could find me and I got ready for work. I wore a white blouse with a small frill down the middle and a dark gray skirt that went down to my knees. My heels were black. I loved my clear skin and even though I was still skinny, I was more confident in my body. My white hair was almost halfway down my back and I wore it in a simple ponytail. Kara and I rode to work together since we worked in the same building and had the same job. I even had a boyfriend that worked in the same building. He had convinced me to date him and I was slowly falling for him. I still had a hard time trusting people, but I was trying. We exited the elevator, talking about what to have for lunch. I looked from her to two people by the front desk. I stopped cold in my tracks. My boyfriend, Josh, was holding hands with a woman named Lisa. They were smiling and Josh moved in and gave her a kiss.

"What the hell?" Kara said so suddenly that it scared me. They looked at us. Josh had brown hair and was clean shaven and Lisa had long, dull brown hair and matching eyes.

"Ren." Josh looked like he just got caught doing something he shouldn't be.

"Finally. You can tell her that you're done." Lisa smiled. I crossed my arms.

"Ren…. We're done." Josh said. My eyes began to burn. "I've been seeing Lisa almost since the beginning." I clenched my jaw, pain entering my chest. I put my trust in him and he betrayed me.

"Well? Are you gonna say anything, you broke bitch?" Lisa grinned. Kara stepped forward and I grabbed her arm.

"You're right. We are done. You might think I'm losing something amazing, but you begged me, remember?" I dropped my other arm. "It's just one thing less to worry about, so thank you." I took the time to walk around them then stopped.

"And, Lisa? If I'm broke, what are you? You're several grades below me. How long have you worked here?" I tapped my chin with a finger and she gasped. "Have fun." I forced a smile before walking away.

"Damn, girl!" Kara laughed. "I won't be messing with you."
