Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Mother Seraphina

If not because I couldn't speak as a baby, I may have said: "It's too easy when the goddess of luck is by your side."

I mean, I touched the jackpot, and because of my luck, I was able to trigger a system mechanism that can only be triggered through the novice Gift Pack; I now have an adaptability trait.

This wasn't just a good start; it was a god-tier beginning, although it can only be considered as a pseudo-adaptability, it's still too cheating.

In the future, no matter what kind of energy or bloodline I have, I wouldn't need to worry about them being contradictory or anything; this saved me a bit of trouble; now all I needed was to figure out my exact lineage and where I stood in the political chaos of the Clock Tower.

It would be good if I'm born into one of the twelve lord families and even better if it was three major families that hold unparalleled power over the Clock Tower, but it seems unlikely.

But honestly, that seemed unlikely. If I were part of one of them, I wouldn't be left alone as a baby without protection, vulnerable to potential assassinations, and there would be many maids accompanying me, Perhaps I'd even find myself in some elaborate laboratory where my potential was being meticulously analyzed.

Instead, I'm left here alone, my surroundings too quiet as if there was no one living in the house, without some of the chaos one might expect from a prestigious lineage.

My deduction led me to believe that I wasn't part of such a family. But then, the question arose: where exactly did I stand? Maybe I'm an illegitimate child of some minor magician working at the Clock Tower.

But that isn't the most important; what is the most urgent for me is to find in what line and what era I'm in; Magi are known to reject technology, clinging to ancient traditions and practices.

My surroundings showed no hint of modernity. Was this the past? Or was I in a family so entrenched in magecraft that they had completely isolated themselves from technological advancements? These deductions led me in circles, and ultimately, I found no concrete answers.

...

"The baby would be named Viktor; as for whether he is worthy of having the family name, we will see it when I return next week, Seraphina."

The voice was too confident an authoritative, and even a little bit arrogant as if he couldn't tolerate any dust in his eyes.

After hearing what the man said from the other end of the crystal, the woman and mother whom Viktor considered as strong as a cow responded with a snort of indignation

"Huh? What do you mean, if he is worthy? As my son, he must be the best," she replied, her voice with irritation and pride, but most importantly a little bit anxious as if she was convincing herself.

Obviously, she seems very confident in her ability and thinks of her son as someone who would inherit her talent, but there is a little bit of anxiousness that can't be hidden, nonetheless, if it's the opposite and he can't respond to her expectation, someone as authoritative as her may make him disappear from the surface of this world.

As for the man on the other hand of the crystal, he nodded, their marriage in the end is only an alliance to produce a capable heir, he said: "It better be so." After that, he cut off the communication.

What he wants is a talented heir who would be able to attract the attention of the main family, he has done all he could do, if his son isn't talented to achieve the goal of inheriting the Crest of the main family, then he doesn't have any use to him and he would just find another woman to give birth, he would do this until he found the Ideal heir.

After ending her communication with Viktor's father, Seraphina was obviously not in a good mood; she truly hated dealing with these so-called nobles.

To them, everything was about bloodline. Talent was secondary unless it was accompanied by an illustrious heritage.

No matter how skilled she was, her relatively "short" lineage meant she wasn't recognized by the aristocracy. Her frustration was evident. If not for her exceptional Magic Circuits and Origin, she might never have gained their acknowledgment at all.

Now, her hope is only on her son; once he grows up, he will inherit his father and maybe even the position of the Lord from the main family, and she will no longer be looked down upon by anyone.

Even if it didn't work, she secretly took the sperm of her so-called husband when they were having a relationship; she would just use them and be pregnant again and again until she gave birth to a talented son.

These two people are truly made for each other; they have the same ideals and ambitions, and even the methods they use to reach their goals are the same.

Fortunately or unfortunately for Viktor, who was an orphan in his last life, he didn't know what kind of mentality his parents had, but even so, he already had some ideas.

He knows that the Magi in the Type-Moon World are different compared to their depiction in many worlds; in his definition, they don't even deserve to be called humans.

They are the kind to do anything to reach their goals, which was the Root for most of them, family or anything, it doesn't matter much, the only use for a family is to find a good heir who would continue your research, then there's nothing.

Plus, would a good mother show such a gaze as when his mother was staring at him? She just looked at him as if he was something that would help her achieve her goal.

But it's also good; he isn't a young kid or a brat but a little adult who has been living without a mother or father for more than 20 years, he at least didn't have to call someone mother and being in an interplanted relationship.

When he finished evaluating the gift he received from the system and how he would use the latter, he was a little bit tired and obeyed his instinct to sleep. Anyway, he had that much time as a baby.
