Chapter 37 - Chapter 36

A lil celebration

After a fulfilling day at the hospital, I decided to celebrate the good news with my family. Stopping by our favorite pizzeria, I picked up a large pizza, envisioning the smiles it would bring to Alex and Sarah.

As I opened the front door, the aroma of freshly baked pizza filled the house. "Who wants pizza?" I called out, my voice echoing with excitement.

Alex's eyes lit up as he dashed toward me, jumping with joy. "Me! Me!" he exclaimed, his enthusiasm contagious.

Sarah emerged from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dish towel, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "It must be a special occasion for you to bring home pizza. The Emily I know would never let Alex eat junk food."

I laughed, setting the pizza box on the dining table. "It is a special occasion. I've been chosen to represent the hospital at a medical seminar in a few weeks. It's a fantastic opportunity for me to grow in my field and connect with senior colleagues. This is a big step for me."

Sarah's eyes widened with pride as she pulled me into a warm embrace. "I knew you'd excel as a pediatrician. I'm so proud of you, Emily."

Alex tugged at my sleeve, looking up with admiration. "Mom, you're the best and the smartest doctor in the world. That's why you're my mom."

We all laughed, the room filled with warmth and happiness. Gathering around the dining table, I began to slice the pizza, the cheese stretching with each cut.

As we settled into our seats, I turned to Sarah. "I need to prepare thoroughly for this seminar. It's a significant opportunity."

Meanwhile, Alex was eagerly devouring his slice, his cheeks puffed like a chipmunk's. Noticing his haste, Sarah chuckled. "Alex, slow down. No one's going to take the pizza away from you."

Alex paused, a guilty smile spreading across his face, and we all burst into laughter again. The evening was filled with joy, the simple pleasure of sharing a meal amplifying our happiness.

As the night went on, we discussed plans for the seminar, the excitement palpable. Alex's eyes began to droop, the day's energy finally catching up with him. I carried him to bed, his soft breaths a comforting reminder of the love that filled our home.
