Chapter 3
Ethan's POV
My head is pounding in a steady rhythm, and my eyes are stinging so bad, why does it feel like my body was pulled through a crater. I try to open my eyes to survey my environment, but the ringing in my ear and the tears in my eyes stop my further movements. Since I can't do anything, I slip back out of consciousness.
When I come to, my eyes don't feel so grainy anymore, so I slowly lift my lids and stare at the white ceiling, I don't recognize where I am, and frankly, I don't remember much of anything, my head is still doing a tap dance and my throat feels drier than a desert, but I manage to croak out, "where am I?" The constant beeping of machines assault my sensitive ears before an older looking woman in pink scrubs comes close to me and says, " oh honey, you're awake, this is a hospital, hold on let me get the doctor". She hurries away while I try to push up to a sitting position. The man I assume is the doctor walks into the room and doesn't say a thing at first, just probes me here and there; poking here, touching there, checking my pulse. While he is checking my body, I watch my parents enter, my dad is holding my mom and she doesn't look so good. I'm about to open my mouth and ask what's going on but the doctor beats me to it and says ," hi my name is doctor Amish, you were in an accident, how do you feel?" I don't know what to answer so I settle with "apart from the fact that I can't feel my legs and my head feels like it's pulling in different directions".
The doctor turns to my parents and says," from the full body scan we ran, his mri shows signs of selective amnesia, his body will make a full recovery, the past 3 weeks have helped his body, the only major problem is his memory. We'll perform another mri scan to be sure and certain and know how to move on from there, for now you're free to see him". He turns to me and says,"the nurse will prescribe something for that headache, if you still feel them after, please press this button by the side of your bed to alert the nurses". I thank him and turn to my parents and hug my mom, she's sobbing in my arms and I realize how stressed she is, but selective amnesia? Oh dear! What could I have missed? The nurse saves me from further mental questioning, the drugs she gives me just knock me out, but before the darkness claims me, I have one thought," something is missing"
