Its 19th May, and seven in the morning.
Sunlight enters Vini's room. Drowning it in its yellow glory. A seventeen year old Vini Del Marcus, does not care for it though. He is more concerned about his sleep as he covers himself in his sheets and sleeps again. Vini is an orphan. His parents were diplomats but they were killed in a terrorist attack. He currently lived with his uncle. Who was usually out of town due to work.
After another hour he finally wakes up. Looking himself in the mirror. He did have heteromchromia, which gave him eyes of two different colours, one brown and another a beautiful shade of jade green.
He prepares himself for school. Setting his short black hair with his hands and a little water. He didn't bother for the comb.
Leaves the empty house and then goes in the opposite direction of the school.
A poker club.
Vini wasn't a fan of school. He believed them to be a waste of time. He would rather spend his time here. Where atleast he could make money.
He plays his first hand and wins then his second then his third and after that he continues to win for a few more hours. After he feels he had enough money. He leaves.
As it turns out, Vini was a prodigy. A genius to say the least. He recieved invitations from prestigious colleges and universities when he was thirteen.
But after the death of his parents. He became despondent and just gave up on everything, deciding to go to an ordinary school and then getting an ordinary job, live an ordinary life and in the end die an ordinary death.
A true wasted potential.
But that wasn't the only reason he won all the poker games.
There was another.
While coming home he sees a kid running in the streets. The kid's mother behind him telling him to stop running. Suddenly a truck appears out of the corner and hits the kid killing him instantly.
Vini just looks at the mangled corpse which was under the truck tyres as the mother cries in pain sitting next to him holding on to her child's now limp and lifeless body.
"Life is cruel. Isn't it" he looks towards her.
As she looks at him, he snaps his fingers.
He sees a kid running in the streets while his mother is behind him telling him not to run.
He approachs the kid, telling him not to run in the streets and to listen to his mother. He returns home as the mother thanks him.
That's right, Vini had the power to manipulate time. Even he didn't understand his powers that much though. He manifested them, a few weeks after the death of his parents. He didn't know why or how he got them. Or how they really work. He just knew after he snaps his fingers he can go in the past. As much as he tried to save his parents with this, he could as the most he could go back was 24 hour and after going back and entire day in the past he couldn't use his powers for 2 days. So he could never save his parents. He also couldn't go in the future.
He goes home and plays games all day long without doing anything else. At night he gets in bed as usual.
He gets the same nightmare he always gets. The day his parents leave the house to get to the airport where they die in an explosion.
But he would always find himself glued to his spot unable to stop them.
Always but not this time, as he was able to move this time. He runs after them.
But as he goes through the door, he finds himself in complete light. Light so blinding he couldn't even see his own hands.
"VINI"
He suddenly hears a voice calling him.
"Who is it!??" He asks.
"Vini Del Marcus, you are one extraordinary lad aren't you. A truly gifted mind . But even with all your abilities and skill, you still choose to waste your life living a pathetic life.
I mean, if somebody else had your powers they would generally use it a lot more. For good or for bad is upto them but they would use them. But you just choose not to do much do you?"
"Wait...!! You know about my powers??" Vini was flabbergasted
"Ofcourse I do. I gave them to you "
Vini was at a complete loss for words
"Just who are you?"
" Oh well that doesn't really matter does it."
"Ofcourse it does. Who are you and why would you give me these powers. Why not give them to someone who could use them more benevolently.
Why me??"
" Well why not"
"Oh well I've had enough of you, not doing anything.
Guess you could use some counselling.
Why don't you meet a few people. Bet you could learn something from them "
With that, Vini suddenly wakes up. It's morning. Sunlight entering the room drowning it in its yellow glory. He thought it was just another dream. But there a difference. It wasn't 20th May. It was 171 CE.
And that wasn't his room. He was in ancient Rome.
