Chapter 2 - The Unspoken Goodbye

The phone call connected, and the other party coldly uttered a single word.

Nan Jinru: "Speak."

Xia Luhua: "Jinru, let's part on good terms. I've made some dishes. Come back, and let's have a meal together. After that, I'll sign the papers, okay?"

Xia Luhua spoke in the tone of the original owner.

There was a long silence on the other end, and just as she thought he would refuse, his voice rang out again.

Nan Jinru: "Alright."

With that, the call ended. Xia Luhua curled her lips and tossed her phone onto the sofa before heading upstairs for a shower.

She had stayed up all night, and now, her dark circles were probably quite heavy. Even if she had to follow the script, she still wanted to look her best.

After all, she was a seasoned beauty enthusiast.

Hua Liuli had originally been an orphan. Through her own efforts, she had attended a good university and landed a respectable job with a decent salary. But one fateful day, after working late, a flowerpot fell from the sky as she exited the company building, killing her instantly.

Then, she encountered System 666. The condition was simple: as long as she followed a certain storyline, she could be reborn at the very moment of her death.

It was her hard-earned life, and she had barely begun to enjoy it before being robbed of it. Naturally, she wasn't willing to let it end that way, so she agreed to the system.

This world marked her first. It was only natural that she was a little nervous as a beginner.

However, for the sake of rebirth, she was determined to follow the plot.

Xia Luhua stepped into the bathroom and glanced at the woman in the mirror. She resembled her original self quite closely, about seventy to eighty percent.

But she still thought she looked more beautiful—she would give herself a solid 9.9 out of 10, leaving off that last point just to keep herself humble.

As for the original body, she would rate it an 8. The melancholy aura surrounding it took a significant toll on the beauty.

After a refreshing shower, Xia Luhua selected a white dress from the wardrobe. After drying her hair, she went downstairs to prepare dinner.

Of course, she didn't actually cook. She ordered food online and then spent her time playing with her phone.

First, she checked her account balance, and seeing the several zeros, a smile spread across her face.

She had struggled to save a few hundred thousand, but the original owner casually had tens of millions at her disposal.

After all, we're all human—what's one more rich woman to the world?

The takeout arrived quickly. She entered the kitchen, unpacked the food, and plated it. Just as she was about to set the table, the door opened.

A man entered, backlit, his handsome features causing Xia Luhua to freeze in place.

Nan Jinru: "Don't waste time. Sign the divorce papers. I will compensate you."

His voice was just as pleasant as his appearance.

Xia Luhua snapped out of her daze, a faintly melancholic smile appearing on her face.

Xia Luhua: "Can we eat first?"

Xia Luhua: "We can talk after we've had a meal."

She turned and entered the kitchen, bringing out the dishes.

She handed the chopsticks and bowl to the man across from her. Nan Jinru furrowed his brow but took them.

They ate in silence, Nan Jinru occasionally looking up at Xia Luhua as he tasted the familiar flavors of the food.

Nan Jinru: "Did you make all of this?"

Xia Luhua: "Is it to your liking?"

Nan Jinru: "It's fine."

Xia Luhua: "If you like it, then eat more."

She flashed a bright smile at him, one so radiant that it made Nan Jinru pause for a moment.

He simply thought the meal tasted similar to one from a restaurant he often visited and didn't dwell on it.

After the meal, Xia Luhua started to clear the dishes, but Nan Jinru took the initiative and grabbed them first.

Nan Jinru: "I'll do it. You think about what you want. Anything I can manage."

Xia Luhua: "Alright."

A touch of sorrow appeared on her face, perfectly timed.

Only once Nan Jinru had taken the dishes into the kitchen did she remember—the takeout boxes were still scattered around!
