"Boom!"
Shirayama's first attempt at mastering Shave ended in failure. The ground beneath him erupted in a cloud of dirt, leaving him covered in dust and debris.
"Why didn't it work?"
Scratching his head in confusion, he replayed the instructions from the scroll in his mind. He had followed every step carefully, yet something still went wrong.
"Again!"
Brushing himself off, Shirayama took a deep breath, refocused his energy, and tried once more. He moved his legs rapidly, stepping on the ground more than ten times within 0.36 seconds.
"Boom!"
The ground exploded again, creating another crater, and Shirayama was left shaking his head in frustration.
"What is going on?"
He pulled out the scroll for another careful read. Every word and diagram was etched into his memory, and he was sure he hadn't skipped a single detail.
"Why is it still not working?" he muttered, utterly baffled.
"Forget it—one more time!"
After exhaling deeply, Shirayama steeled himself for another attempt.
"Boom!"
Yet again, failure.
"Damn it, what's wrong with this? Why do I keep failing?"
Unable to hold back his frustration, Shirayama cursed loudly.
"I refuse to believe I can't master a single technique! It's just Shave! How hard can it be?"
What Shirayama didn't realize was that mastering Shave was no easy feat. For every practitioner, it typically took at least a hundred attempts just to grasp the basics.
No matter how talented someone was, Shave required repetition to understand its essence. It was like learning to ride a bicycle—knowing the theory of balance and pedaling didn't mean one wouldn't fall several times before finally succeeding.
And so:
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
The back of the island echoed with the relentless sounds of explosions. The ground trembled as if in protest, while Shirayama continued his grueling practice.
Finally, after his hundredth failed attempt:
"Whoosh!"
Shirayama vanished, leaving behind a faint blur and a sharp whistle in the air.
"Boom!"
When he reappeared, he crashed into a tree with enough force to make it tremble violently.
But instead of frustration, Shirayama wore a broad, triumphant smile.
"I did it! Finally!"
Though his control was still lacking, he had successfully executed Shave for the first time.
With his mastery of Shave, combined with the boost from his Devil Fruit powers, Shirayama was confident that he could achieve the top speed mentioned in the scroll—or even exceed it.
Speed wasn't just about movement; it also amplified force. A small stone, propelled at sufficient velocity, could become a deadly weapon. And with Shirayama's natural strength, the combination of speed and power made him even more formidable.
In the world of pirates, no matter how extraordinary one's Devil Fruit powers might be, raw physical strength was indispensable. While speed had its place, strength was often the deciding factor in battles, especially against powerful foes and massive beasts.
"Whew… whew…"
Lying flat on his back, Shirayama gazed up at the sky, his chest rising and falling with exertion.
"Ha! So that's it—it wasn't my method that was wrong. I just didn't have enough experience!" he said, laughing to himself.
Having reached the first milestone in his mastery of Shave, Shirayama felt a significant boost in his confidence. More importantly, he realized that mastering this technique wasn't just about speed—it gave him a deeper understanding of his own physical limits and how to control every ounce of his strength.
