"What took you so long?" Leon's voice broke the silence as he rushed into the study. His eyes locked on Emma, who stood frozen near his desk. "What is it? What happened?" he asked, concern filled in his tone as he moved closer.
That's when he saw it, the book in her hands.
Emma's trembling fingers tightened around the edges of the book, but the hurt in her eyes was so clear. Without a word, Leon carefully reached out and took the book from her hands. She let it go, but the way her hands shook made it clear just how deeply she felt the betrayal.
Leon's gaze dropped to the open page, and the moment he read the words, his chest tightened. He knew exactly what had made her freeze like that, and there was no way to explain himself.
