Chapter 3 - Dodged a Crysis

"Hello doctor" Mom and dad

"Hello Mr and Mrs Yukihira, you have done the tests and bring the reports I persume?" The doctor said as he saw the reports I was carrying in my hand.

"Yes, we actually run a diner so it's not possible for us to come every day. We even closed our shop at noon today to comply with my son's wishes." Dad said while smiling.

"Here Doctor uncle, my father's report." I turned to the doctor and given him dad's reports.

After seeing the report, the doctor said " Well Mr Yukihira, your heart is perfectly healthy, but your blood pressure is little bit high. Try to avoid some oily and greezy dishes and I'll recommend some medicine alongside. Other than this you are completely fit.

After dad, I give the doctor mom's report and waiting for his decree. The doctor started to watch the reports carefully, the E. C. G , the CT. Then looked at my eyes.

"Mrs Yukihira, I'm sorry to say but you have a serious heart problem." The doctor said while looking at my parents.

"B-but I didn't feel any kind of discomfort doctor, how is this possible?" Mom tried to argue with reality, she seems shaken.

"No need to fear dear, calm down." Dad said while claiming mom down. As I hold her hands tightly after hearing the verdict from doctor.

The doctor continued " It seems she had a minor birth defect in one of her heart valves."

The doctor took the CT report and show it to us.

"Doctor would it affect her greatly I mean, is she in any danger?" Dad asked nervously.

"Normally defects like these would heal naturally as the body grows" Then the doctor look at mom and said "not always."

"Untill now she didn't shown any signs of repair, and also she didn't displayed any signs of heart problem either if this continues, I'm afraid she would collapse in 2 to 3 years at most." Doctor said with regret.

"Doctor, what should we do now?" Asked Dad.

"Preferably, a heart transplantation would be best but having a rare blood group, it's close to impossible finding a matching heart for her. Another option is a heart surgery, to correct the defect, but because she had grown up to this point, it won't be that effective, her heart was already started to weaken, even with a successful heart surgery, she can live 20 to 25 years most." The doctor said truthfully.

Dad hold me in his embrace as I started to cry after doctor's reply.

"Doctor please prepare for the surgeries. With the buffer of 20 years, chances of getting a matching heart is greater right?" Mom said.

"You know Mrs Yukihira, you are one hell of a strong minded lady. All right I'll prepare the procedures, and tell this to higher authorities, a case as complicated as yours, still needed a medical Board to discuss." The doctor said.

"We will admit her into the hospital tomorrow, for now goodbye doctor." Dad said, and we left the hospital.

After leaving the hospital, Dad said " Should we check the reports with another Cardio Specialist?"

"Hmm, there is no harm doing it. " Mom said and we went towards west city hospital.

Well to our disappointment the doctor said the same diagnosis as the previous one and mom confirmed her situation.

We still have to tell gramps about mom's condition. I don't know how the old man will take this. If it wasn't for my insistence, mom would died 2 years after. If the surgery went successful, I will take mom away from fate's grasp.

The night goes by and we temporarily closed our Diner. Many regular customers and our neighbours came and inquired about the situation and after learning about mom's condition they console us and prayed to the gods for her safe surgery.

Today we have gone to the hospital we have first visited. Doctor Sakamoto have already contacted his superiors and today mom will be going through another series of tests and it was decided that she will be going through surgery tomorrow.

5:00 P.M. Yukihira Diner.

Dad and I returned home from hospital after mom was shifted to ICU before the surgery.

These days, dad was shocked hearing mom's heart problem, Tired after arranged the surgery and other formalities and sad after hearing mom may live 20 or something years more.

I'm also dissatisfied, I want to mom to live a normal happy long live but 20 years are better than 2 years right?

Tomorrow at 10:00 P. M. the doctors have arranged time for mom to get her surgery.

Dad and I, stayed the whole night outside the operation theatre even gramps stayed after all she was his only daughter. We all pray for mom to have a successful operation.
