Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Quite a Tragic Scapegoat

This book, Ji Tian barely read a few chapters, it was just too absurd for her, and she had flipped through a few plot summaries before checking out the ending.

Although the male and female leads ended up happily together, the male lead had still lost half his life to the big villain in the book.

So, she wasn't really familiar with this book.

The next second, the female lead was arranged to sit next to the male lead.

Ji Tian leaned on the desk and complained about the bloody drama again.

The classroom was stuffy, so she grabbed Jian Chuyi to go outside for some air, and they both stood on the balcony of the fifth floor, looking down.

The fourth floor was class nine, where Ji Weinan would come out during break time on schedule, standing on the balcony oozing his irresistible charm.

Jian Chuyi was utterly fascinated, she liked this kind of bad boy.

Suddenly, laughter and discussion erupted nearby, "Haha, a bug is still a bug. Even if it climbs up to the Bai Family, it's still living in a gutter. Look at his tattered clothes, even the beggars outside the school dress better than he does."

Ji Tian's attention was instantly drawn by an emerging slim figure, a boy passing by in the corridor, his white T-shirt torn at places, held together with two clips.

People were surrounding him, watching, but even amidst such mockery, his expression remained unchanged.

Ji Tian saw his familiar face, her breath hitched, and she quickly pulled Jian Chuyi to ask, "Chuyi, who is he?"

Jian Chuyi reluctantly shifted her gaze from Ji Weinan, and upon seeing the boy, she rolled her eyes, "He is Qin Jiangsheng, the bastard son that the Patriarch of the Bai Family acknowledged a year ago, technically Bai Tingyu's younger brother. Because of Bai Tingyu, the school's attitude towards him is quite ambiguous and they are unsure of what the Bai Family Patriarch thinks, so they just lukewarmly placed him in class eight."

Jian Chuyi showed sympathy, "That's so sad. The Bai Family doesn't provide him clothes? They're all torn at the sides."

The culprit, Ji Tian, "…"

She was too embarrassed to admit that she had accidentally torn them, so she kept her gaze and mind elsewhere, pretending not to know.

But she was thinking about Qin Jiangsheng, the name sounded familiar, but she couldn't remember where from; she figured he must be another character with no presence, just like her.

Both being drifters in this world, why bother to acknowledge each other.

She sighed heavily in her heart, turned around, and walked into the classroom, where she bumped straight into Bai Tingyu. Realizing it was him, she stepped heavily on his foot without showing any trace, her expression sweet, her voice soft, "I'm sorry, Brother Yu."

Bai Tingyu frowned, looked down at the big dusty footprint on his shoe, then glanced at Ji Tian's innocent eyes, and thought he must have been imagining things.

How could the usually gentle and quiet Ji Family's younger sister intentionally step on him?

He kept a poker face, coolly said, "Be more careful next time."

After speaking, he walked past her.

Finally, after struggling through to school dismissal, Ji Tian just wanted to lie in the hundreds of square meters of garden and sip on plain coconut juice.

As she was walking down, she ran into Ji Weinan and his group; he grabbed her backpack in one swift motion and asked with a raised eyebrow, "What about that new transfer student?"

Ji Tian was forced to stand still, watching Ji Weinan who was ready to find trouble with Shen Zhiyi. Truly, no one could stop the power of the plot.

She tried to intervene, "Big brother, I advise you not to go, you'll end up miserable."

She then looked towards Gong Yu, seriously said, "And you'll be the second."

His gaze shifted to Quan Jingyou, "And bootlicker number three."

It was quite miraculous that people from the Four Great Financial Groups of Capital City were all deeply fascinated by the female lead, even to the point of breaking with the male lead for her, disliking how the male lead treated the female lead, and coming to blows with him.

This perhaps was the charm of a Mary Sue romance novel, Ji Tian thought to herself. Faced with the disbelief of the three, Ji Weinan directly gave a "you're crazy" look, "What nonsense are you spouting? You must have hit your head when you fell in the lake, right? Forget it, we'll find it ourselves."

He let go of Ji Tian and, leading his two good brothers, strutted off. Gong Yu glanced back at Ji Tian then followed Ji Weinan's steps.

Ji Tian turned around speechlessly and muttered under her breath, "Idiot!"

As Qin Jiangshen passed her, he hesitated for a second then quickly walked away. Ji Tian, with her head down, kicking the pebbles on the ground, didn't realize that the innocent-looking boy whose shirt she had torn heard her curse.

The luxurious Rolls-Royce parked by the roadside attracted quite a bit of attention. Ji Tian swaggered onto the car and headed home.

Upon arriving home, she found another person in the living room.

The man, wearing a white shirt and gold-rimmed glasses with a gentle demeanor, smiled when he saw Ji Tian, "Tiantian is back, are you hungry?"

Ji Tian glanced briefly over his gentle face—this was her second brother, Ji Qilin, a genius in the medical field who, ultimately, because he admired the female lead's medical talents, mentored her without asking for anything in return.

Later, the female lead leveraged his ideas to develop a wildly popular anti-cancer agent, becoming an overnight sensation and the youngest Divine Doctor in Capital City.

However, Ji Qilin, unhappy about his ideas being borrowed and having developed unspoken feelings for her, finally distanced himself from the female lead, opposed her, and ended up having his legs crippled by the male lead.

The main theme of this book was a man madly doting on his wife, which was quite a hardship for their family of villains, constantly getting figuratively slapped in the face.

Quite a tragic figure.

She was unsure if the plot inside the book could actually be changed. The King of Competition always came online half a day late, and sometimes didn't show up at all, clearly intending to half-ass it.

If it weren't for the lack of a way to do it, Ji Tian really wanted to file a complaint!

The two of them sat in the living room, Ji Qilin immersing himself in his work again, while Ji Tian held a large coconut, sitting next to him and drinking.

Looking at the tempting gold in the floor tile crevices, she couldn't help but ask, "Second Brother, can we dig this gold out? If we run out of money later, we can still exchange the gold for cash."

She had already thought of a backup plan for the Ji family in case they became poor. At least they wouldn't starve.

Ji Qilin stopped his work upon seeing the serious look in Ji Tian's eyes and frowned slightly. Who had given his little sister the notion that the Ji family would be out of money?

The Ji family's wealth, even if they stopped running their companies and just squandered it away, would be enough to last for several generations.

Even if the Gong and Quan families went bankrupt, it wouldn't be the Ji family's turn.

He thought for a moment, his tone gentle, "Does Tiantian like gold? Tomorrow, big brother will buy some for you."

Ji Tian was about to refuse but then thought better of it, to save it for a time when it might be needed, so she smiled sweetly, "Thank you, Second Brother."

Ji Qilin, watching her eyes curved into a smile, her black hair and red lips, her fair skin like blooming flowers, found her very beautiful. It was rare to see Ji Tian smile so brightly, and his mood brightened as well, "You're welcome. Drink less coconut juice; we're having dinner soon."

Ji Tian nodded, then went to her favorite spot to lounge around and enjoy life.

Ji Qilin typed a few characters on his computer, then ended up calling Ji Lingyun, "Big Brother, was it you who told Tiantian that the Ji family might be out of money?"
