Once the students were given permission, they went to find their first pet among these eggs.
Not everyone would be compatible with every beast out there. The compatibility depends on the talent that they have awakened.
For example, if a person has awakened a Frost-type talent, then making a contract with a Fire-type beast would be considered the worst choice. Even if that beast is a dragon, it wouldn't matter. If you choose something that is not compatible, though it may look grand on the outside, the true value would be nothing.
If you have frost-type talent and contract a fire-type dragon, then that would severely inhibit the growth rate of the beast. It's not that the growth would be inhibited, the power of it would too.
Fire and Water are opposite types, which means they fight each other if they come in contact with one another. Frost is considered a mutant type of water and it would have the same reaction as water when facing fire.
In that condition, even a monkey could destroy the dragon.
So choosing a perfect pet is very important, especially when that pet is your first one. This is because the first partner would decide how far you can go in your journey.
If you chose the wrong beast as your partner when it's a second or third beast, that wouldn't cause much problem as you would have an old partner on whom you can rely.
Choosing the wrong beast to partner up at the start means that you have ended your journey before it ever started. This is something every beast tamer has to avoid.
No matter the talent, if you don't have the smarts to even select a proper beast as your pet when there are so many beasts available for selection, then you don't deserve the talent or the future that could have been yours.
This is the age when any beast tamer would have huge potential. After a certain age, that potential would start to drop and after reaching a certain age, it would go to zero.
So whatever ambitions and goals one has, they have to make sure that they reach that before they lose their potential.
This is why, the first pet contract is very important, as it plays a very important role in your reaching your goal or not.

Chris too went on his search for his first beast partner to be.
Though William wanted Chris's input, he was not that free to help his friend at this moment. Though he cares about his friends, he would never put others above himself.
First, he needs to be in a better position before he can help others, not the other way around.
Since William also understood that if he kept Chris with him for too long, Chris would suffer. It shouldn't be how a friend should act. So he decided to check the beast eggs alone. Once he selected a few, the final one could be decided after taking Chris's help, he decided.
For Chris, every beast out there is of equal prominence. He was suited with every beast possible but the top beast eggs like eggs of dragon-kind are not present here.
If the Alliance thinks about getting everyone those eggs, they would go bankrupt. Moreover, there would be no Alliance left in the first place if they did that.
Everyone wants a dragon but they forget how hard it is to raise a dragon. The resources required by such a beast are enormous and not even top families can afford those resources on a huge scale. They are usually reserved for only the talented heirs of the family.
The eggs here in the bestiary belong to common beasts. A few times, there would be some rare beasts, where eggs were found without any protection, either because their parent beasts abandoned them or dead or may be out searching for food.
If it were the first two scenarios then it would be well and good, but the third is not considered as an ethical thing. Even if that was the case, there was no one who would say no, as the world revolves around who has the biggest fist.
For the survival of humans, beast tamers are required. Though beast tamers would become strong, at the beginning they are weak and need some help.
Once they get their first pet, the strength of them will start to change.
Years ago, when the beast tamers awakened their talents, they had to go to the wild and tame a beast but that caused casualties in huge numbers. It didn't help humans at all.
Later the stronger ones sold the eggs of the beasts, which saved the lives of the youngsters. Even though it reduced the casualties a little, it didn't better at all. This was because most come from poor backgrounds and can't afford to buy. So they have to find their beast on their own.
Only later did the Alliance start this Free Beast Egg policy for the newcomers.
It increased the strength of the Federal Alliance a lot and brought peace to the habitats. Though there would be attacks from the monsters, most were stopped before they could reach the towns and cities.

Though Chris's family could afford an Egg, that would put a financial burden on the family, especially since there is still a young sister who has still a year in school.
Just like his elder sister, who refused to buy and use the Alliance's bestiary, he too chose to select his first partner from the common monsters.
Though the common monsters are weaker and would have fewer chances of reaching higher evolutionary stages, with his second talent, Chris wouldn't have any trouble with it being a common monster.
Like every other student here, Chris too started his search. Since his talents don't cause any backlash for selecting a specific element or race of beast, he can choose any beast but that also became a problem.
With so many options, what to choose, he has no idea.
Slowly, Chris checked every section of the beasts, before coming to a halt at an egg that attracted him more than others.
The egg belonged to...
