Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Kael’s Initiation

The crew's spirits were high after Kael's agreement to join them. The legendary weapon master's presence was a testament to their growing reputation, but Franco knew there was much more to accomplish. For Kael, this was not only a test of Franco's potential but also his own willingness to step back into the chaotic world of piracy after years of solitude.

A Shared Vision

That evening, the crew gathered around a makeshift campfire outside Kael's cabin. The smell of roasted fish filled the air as Lynara poked at the flames with a stick, her ears flicking occasionally. Markus leaned against a tree, his broadsword resting nearby, while Taro cleaned his trident with deliberate precision.

Kael sat on a tree stump, his sharp eyes observing each member of the crew. "You've assembled an interesting group, Franco. But tell me, what's your ultimate goal?"

Franco, seated cross-legged, gripped his newly crafted hammer, the weapon resting against his shoulder. "To be the strongest in the world. Not just for myself but to ensure my crew becomes legendary. Strength isn't just about power—it's about protecting what matters."

Kael nodded slowly, the firelight reflecting in his silver eyes. "A noble ambition. But the seas are unforgiving. You'll need more than strength to survive. Strategy, alliances, discipline—these are just as important."

Taro spoke up, his voice calm. "We've already faced some tough opponents. But having someone with your experience will help us refine our approach."

Kael smirked. "I'll teach you what I can. But know this—my training isn't easy. You'll curse me before you thank me."

Lynara grinned, her sharp teeth catching the light. "I like a challenge."

Kael's First Lesson

The next morning, Kael wasted no time in beginning their training. He led the crew to a rocky beach on the island, the waves crashing against jagged cliffs. The air was crisp, and the sound of seagulls echoed above.

Kael placed his twin swords on a flat rock and turned to the group. "Today, we focus on discipline and coordination. Each of you has your own strengths, but as a crew, you're only as strong as your weakest link."

Markus frowned. "What are you getting at?"

Kael picked up a long wooden pole and jabbed it into the sand. "You'll fight me. One by one. And I'll point out your flaws."

Markus stepped forward, hefting his broadsword. "Fine. Let's get this over with."

Kael picked up another pole, its length about the same as Markus's sword. "Whenever you're ready."

---

Markus vs. Kael

Markus charged with his usual bravado, swinging his broadsword in a heavy arc. Kael sidestepped easily, using the pole to redirect the blade's momentum. Markus stumbled slightly but recovered, thrusting forward. Again, Kael avoided the attack, his movements precise and effortless.

"You're too predictable," Kael said, his voice calm. "Your strikes are powerful, but you telegraph every move."

Markus growled, gripping his sword tighter. He unleashed a flurry of strikes, each one more aggressive than the last. Kael parried every blow with the pole, his movements fluid. Finally, Kael stepped in, sweeping Markus's legs out from under him and pressing the pole against his chest.

"You rely too much on brute force," Kael said. "Learn to read your opponent, and you'll find openings."

Markus grumbled but nodded, picking himself up.

Lynara vs. Kael

Next was Lynara. She crouched low, her claws glinting in the sunlight. Kael held the pole loosely, watching her with an unreadable expression.

Lynara darted forward, her movements quick and unpredictable. She leaped to Kael's side, slashing at his torso. Kael spun, the pole deflecting her claws. She immediately flipped backward, landing gracefully on her feet.

"Good agility," Kael said. "But you waste energy with unnecessary movements."

Lynara growled and attacked again, this time aiming for Kael's legs. He blocked and countered with a jab to her shoulder, forcing her back.

"Focus," Kael said. "Precision over speed."

Lynara hissed but nodded, retreating to the sidelines.

---

Taro vs. Kael

Taro stepped forward, his trident gleaming in the morning light. He held the weapon in a defensive stance, his sharp eyes locked on Kael.

Kael nodded in approval. "Good posture. Let's see how well you adapt."

Taro lunged, his trident aimed at Kael's chest. Kael sidestepped, using the pole to knock the trident off course. Taro immediately pivoted, swinging the butt of the trident toward Kael's ribs. Kael blocked, the clash of wood echoing across the beach.

"Better," Kael said. "You're patient and deliberate. But you lack aggression."

Taro smirked faintly. "I prefer to wait for the right moment."

Kael parried another strike and stepped back. "A good strategy, but sometimes hesitation can cost you. Balance is key."

---

Franco vs. Kael

Finally, it was Franco's turn. He stepped forward, his hammer resting on his shoulder and his hook coiled at his side. Kael discarded the pole and picked up his twin swords.

"You're the leader," Kael said. "Show me what you've learned."

Franco nodded and tightened his grip on the hammer. He swung it in a wide arc, the sheer force creating a gust of wind. Kael blocked with his swords, the impact forcing him to slide back slightly.

"Powerful," Kael said. "But predictable."

Franco smirked. "Not this time."

He hurled the hook toward Kael, the chain unraveling like a serpent. Kael dodged, but Franco used the chain to redirect the hammer's swing mid-strike. The move caught Kael off guard, forcing him to block hastily.

Kael's smile widened. "You're improving."

The fight continued, each clash of metal and lightning demonstrating Franco's growth. Finally, Kael stepped back, sheathing his swords.

"You've come far," Kael said. "But there's still much to learn."

The Bond Deepens

As the sun set over the island, the crew gathered around the campfire once more. Kael's training had pushed them to their limits, but it also brought them closer as a team.

"You've all shown promise," Kael said, his voice steady. "But remember, strength alone won't carry you through the Grand Line. Stay sharp, stay focused, and you'll achieve greatness."

Franco raised his hammer, the firelight dancing across its polished surface. "With you on our side, we're one step closer to becoming the strongest."

The crew cheered, their voices echoing across the island. Franco's journey was just beginning, but with Kael's guidance, the path ahead seemed a little clearer.
