Chapter 5 - looking back

After witnessing the colossal dragon tear through the skies, something primal stirred within Jaiden. A fire that had long been extinguished in his previous, mundane life reignited. This was no longer a corporate grind—this was a world of dragons, magic, and limitless opportunity.

Once his breathing steadied, Jaiden began assessing his situation. The land around him was untouched and wild, with towering trees and no hint of civilization. He tried to recall how he'd ended up here, but his memories were hazy. The merging of his soul with this new body was still incomplete.

Looking down at his hands, he noticed they were smaller, smoother. He hurried to a nearby puddle to see his reflection.

"Beautiful," he muttered, taken aback.

The boy staring back at him was stunning—dark hair, crimson eyes, and a face so perfect it would put every model back on earth to shame male and female alike. He also noticed that he was shorter now, perhaps around 180 cm. Despite his youthful appearance, his body felt vibrant and strong, far superior to his past self.

"This body is unreal," Jaiden murmured. "Fifteen, huh? I've got time to grow stronger."

Still, something nagged at him—a theory he wanted to test. Dropping to his knees, he muttered, "Please work. Please work…"

"System," he called out.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Ding!

"Damn," he muttered in excitement after scanning his status screen.

"So the previous owner of this body was Zephyr Von Akasha…sounds like he was some sort of bigshot noble and not just some random body plucked from the void." His mind raced as he looked at his affinities "Ether and null? at least the trip to the void wasn't for nothing." He winced as he remembered the excruciating pain he'd endured. At the time, he thought he was dying—though technically, he already had.

"Unshattered must be from seeing that eldritch horror," Jaiden mused. "Makes sense." His eyes fell back to the Ethervein skill. "But this—this is what I'm really excited about."

"Ether, huh? A superior form of mana," he muttered. "I can't wait to test this out."

His gaze shifted to the rest of the stats. "Looks like all my stats are around F+, except for Intelligence, Charm, and Luck." He scratched his head in confusion. "What the fuck is my luck even about , F- to SSS+? What even is this... it's probably fluctuating."

"Well, the high Intelligence makes sense," he added with a smirk. "Guess all that coding and mathematics during my engineering degree finally paid off."

His eyes then fell on his affinities. "Body, space, and null... Damn, tell me that doesn't sound broken as fuck."

But then a thought struck him, and he paused. "Doesn't matter how broken it looks—I have no idea how to use any of this." His expression hardened. "First things first. Survive. I can't risk trying to experiment with these abilities while there's a chance a monster could come out of the trees and gobble me up." He glanced around, eyeing the dense forest. "It'd be a pretty lame way to go, don't you think?"

Jaiden clenched his fists, determination settling in. "I'll have to rely on the skills I have now and figure out the rest as I go. Survival first, then I can start testing the rest of this crap."
