Liu Huihui had also witnessed the Skull Gang's strength firsthand. They could easily dispatch several Meridian Opening-level fighters. Even the strongest among them, Hunter Liu, couldn't defeat a Meridian Opening warrior; he could only manage a stalemate. If the Skull Gang arrived, they would undoubtedly be in danger.
Hunter Liu nodded slightly and said, "There's no time to lose. Let's go into the cemetery now and see what the village chief's so-called treasure really is."
He had a feeling the treasure hidden in the cemetery might not be simple. Otherwise, the village chief wouldn't have said only he had a chance to obtain it—and even then, it was only a possibility.
The three of them didn't delay any further, quickly leading their horses toward the cemetery.
"Oh, by the way, Liu Qin," Liu Huihui suddenly asked, glancing at Liu Qin with a playful tone, "did your parents mention anything about your future? Like, who you should be with?"
As expected, Liu Qin's cheeks flushed slightly at his question. She bit her lip, lowering her voice as she said, "Huihui, are you itching for trouble? Why are you prying into my business?"
While she spoke, Liu Qin stole a glance at Hunter Liu. Seeing that he remained indifferent, staring straight ahead, she couldn't help but feel a hint of disappointment.
Unbeknownst to her, Hunter Liu was secretly sweating, cursing to himself, "Damn, Huihui really is asking for trouble. I'll definitely get back at him someday. He just had to bring that up."
One hot summer night last year, feeling restless, Hunter Liu had snuck out to chat with Liu Qin. Since her family's door was locked, he decided to climb in through her window.
Knowing which room Liu Qin slept in, he easily slipped through the window. However, what met his eyes was Liu Qin's elegant, bare form lying in bed. The realization hit him instantly—she was sleeping naked!
Hunter Liu immediately tried to pretend he hadn't seen anything and leave. But fate had other plans, as if it had bound him to her. Just as he was about to climb back out, Liu Qin woke up. Although she was momentarily shocked, she quickly regained her composure. She insisted that he take responsibility and promised to marry her, as otherwise, she feared she'd never find a husband.
Despite being a top assassin in his previous life, Hunter Liu was inexperienced in love. He tried to brush it off, but ever since that night, he'd noticed a subtle change in how Liu Qin looked at him—something he couldn't quite describe but secretly enjoyed.
Before long, they reached the cemetery. The site contained hundreds of small mounds, various-sized graves, and a shrine five meters tall standing before them.
The shrine was about half the size of a basketball court but was unique in one significant way: it wasn't shaped like a traditional building but rather like a coffin.
"We should pay our respects to our ancestors here first."
Standing before the shrine, Hunter Liu cast a quick glance around. For some reason, he felt something different about the shrine today, though he couldn't quite pinpoint it.
Liu Huihui and Liu Qin had no objections, so Hunter Liu stepped forward and pushed open the shrine door, leading the three of them inside.
None of them noticed that as they entered, a strange energy shield formed over the entrance, silently sealing them in. The energy expanded outward, enclosing the entire shrine.
Once inside, they knelt in respect, their faces filled with sincere reverence.
Suddenly, a soft buzzing sound echoed through the shrine. A white light appeared above the ancestral tablets at the front of the shrine, gradually gathering into a round, mysterious orb. Although it emitted no particular energy, the orb gave off an eerie feeling.
"What… what is that?"
Liu Huihui and Liu Qin were both stunned, as was Hunter Liu. They couldn't understand why this strange light had appeared above the tablets, let alone why it had formed a circular orb.
"I… I remember now!"
Just as Hunter Liu's mind raced with questions, Liu Qin let out a terrified shout, as if she had recalled something dreadful.
Hunter Liu frowned and said, "Don't be afraid. Tell me slowly."
Unconcerned about appearances, Liu Qin moved closer, pressing herself against him as she trembled. "I read about this in an ancient book in the village's library. This orb of light is something out of legend… It's called the Eye of Hell. They say it's a gateway to hell. Once the Eye of Hell appears, countless evil spirits will pour out from within and spread across the land, bringing destruction and death. The spirits rule, and life is devoured."
