Chapter 9: Fracturing Alliances
Third person POV
In the Carnifex lair, Animus confronted Azazela.
"Erebus suspects treachery," she warned, her voice low and menacing. "He discovered your secrets, Azazela."
Azazela's smile faltered, her eyes flashing with unease.
"Jealousy fuels Erebus' doubts," she replied, regaining composure. "He resents my influence over you, Animus."
Animus' uncertainty deepened. Was Azazela manipulating her?
"Prove your loyalty," Animus demanded.
Azazela bowed.
"My power serves you alone, Animus."
But Animus' doubts lingered.
Meanwhile, at the castrum police department
Officer Thompson briefed the task force.
"Supernatural elements at play," he emphasized. "We need experts."
Chief Patel nodded.
"Explore all avenues."
Troy entered the conference room.
"I have information," he said.
Thompson's eyes narrowed.
"What do you know?"
"The creatures are called Carnifex," Troy explained. "They're ancient, feed on human flesh."
The room fell silent.
"How do you know this?" Patel asked.
"I've seen them," Troy replied. "With Johanna. She's fighting back."
Thompson's expression turned determined.
"We'll find a way to stop these creatures."
"You can only join forces with Johanna, she has paid the price and now wield the power to end this once and for all". Troy replied Thompson.
Somewhere in castrum, Johanna laid down to rest from the unending battle,
Johanna's dreams darkened.
Azazela's potion coursing through her veins.
Troy's concern grew.
"Johanna, what's happening to you?"
Her eyes flashed.
"I see the Carnifex's weakness," she whispered.
Troy's hope flickered.
"Tell me."
Johanna's gaze turned inward.
"The Light of Elyria..."
"And I posses it".
