A Beautiful Haunting:
It started with a dream, one so vivid that Ryle almost believed he was awake. He was walking through a quiet forest, lit by the warm, golden light of afternoon sun. Sunlight slipped through the leaves, casting soft shadows on the ground, and a gentle breeze stirred the trees. The fresh scent of pine and earth filled the air, and Ryle felt an odd sense of peace—one he hadn't felt in a long time.
But he wasn't alone. Somewhere beside him was a girl he knew well, someone who had once been a part of his life, someone he had never truly forgotten. She was there, close but just out of reach. He couldn't see her face, but he felt her presence, familiar and comforting. Ryle felt the pull to bring her back. He didn't understand why he had done what he did or why he was so dumb , but in this dream, he felt whole again, as if she could see the real him.
He walked through the trees, drawn to her, wanting to reach out and close the space between them. The forest felt warm and alive with her near, and Ryle longed for the words he couldn't find in waking life. But as he reached out his hand, the scene around him began to change. The light faded, and shadows crawled through the forest, spreading across the ground and darkening the path.
The warmth vanished, replaced by a chill. The trees, once gentle and welcoming, now seemed twisted and strange, their branches reaching like cold fingers. The girl began to fade into the shadows, slipping away from him just as she had in real life. A heavy feeling pressed on his chest, a weight he couldn't escape.
He tried to call her back, to break through the silence, but no sound came. His voice was lost, swallowed by the forest as she disappeared completely, leaving him alone in the dark. The only thing left was the memory of a place that had felt safe and warm—a place that, like her, was now just out of reach.
