Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Noelle's Day Off - A Surprising Encounter

It was a rare day when Noelle, the dutiful maid of the Knights of Favonius, had no tasks assigned to her. The weather was perfect, with the sun shining warmly over Mondstadt and a gentle breeze keeping things cool. Noelle, usually busy with her knightly duties or helping others, had decided to spend her day off in a way that she rarely got to—exploring the city, enjoying the sights, and perhaps even treating herself to something sweet from Good Hunter.

She was wandering down Mondstadt's main street, a slight smile on her face as she watched the children running around with their Pokémon partners. She had heard so much about these creatures, but she hadn't had the opportunity to visit Hiroshi's shop yet. Her curiosity was piqued as she watched a child playing with a Pichu, the small electric mouse giggling as it chased the boy around the fountain.

"They look like such wonderful companions," Noelle thought to herself. She sighed softly, a touch of wistfulness in her expression. Despite her duties as a maid, she always longed to be more—to protect Mondstadt as a true knight. Perhaps a partner would help her achieve that dream.

As she was lost in thought, she heard a familiar voice call her name. Turning around, she saw Amber approaching, her Swablu perched comfortably on her head. Amber waved enthusiastically, her ever-cheerful grin in place.

"Noelle! It's so good to see you! I didn't expect to find you out and about today," Amber said as she reached Noelle, Swablu chirping happily in greeting.

Noelle smiled, giving Amber a polite bow. "Good morning, Amber. It's my day off, so I thought I'd enjoy some fresh air. It's not often that I get a chance to just relax."

Amber's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Oh, that's great! You know, you should totally come with me to Hiroshi's Pokémon shop. I think a Pokémon partner would be perfect for you! What do you say?"

Noelle blinked, surprised by the suggestion. "A Pokémon partner…? I don't know. Would I really be a good partner for a Pokémon?"

Amber nodded enthusiastically, taking Noelle's hands in hers. "Of course you would! You're one of the kindest people in Mondstadt, and Pokémon love people with kind hearts. Come on, let's go see what Hiroshi has for you. I'll go with you!"

Noelle hesitated for a moment, then nodded, a smile forming on her lips. "Alright, I'll go. I've been curious about the Pokémon for some time now."

The two made their way to Hiroshi's shop, chatting along the way. As they approached the storefront, they were greeted by Zekrom, whose presence always seemed to leave people in awe. Noelle looked up at the dragon, her eyes wide with amazement.

"Good morning, Zekrom," Amber greeted cheerfully. "We're here to find Noelle a Pokémon partner today."

Zekrom's deep voice resonated, causing Noelle to jump slightly. "A partner for this young lady? I sense great determination within her. This will be interesting."

Noelle looked at Zekrom, blushing slightly at the praise. "Thank you, Zekrom. I… I hope I can find a partner who will help me protect Mondstadt."

Inside the shop, Hiroshi was arranging some items on the counter when Amber and Noelle entered. He looked up, smiling warmly at the sight of the two knights.

"Amber, Noelle, welcome! I'm glad you came by today," Hiroshi said, stepping around the counter to greet them. "Looking for a partner, Noelle?"

Noelle nodded, her eyes glancing around the shop at the many Poké Balls lining the shelves. "Yes, I'd like to find a Pokémon who could help me become a better protector of Mondstadt."

Hiroshi considered her request for a moment, then smiled, walking over to one of the shelves and selecting a Poké Ball. "I think I have just the right partner for you, Noelle. Someone who is dependable and strong, just like you. Here, give it a try."

He handed Noelle the Poké Ball, and she held it carefully, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nervousness. With a deep breath, she pressed the button, and in a burst of light, a small, rocky creature appeared before her. It had sturdy limbs, a round body, and a determined expression—a Geodude.

Noelle's eyes widened, a smile growing on her face. "Oh! A Geodude… It looks so strong!"

Geodude looked up at Noelle, its eyes studying her curiously. After a moment, it gave her a nod, a small smile forming on its stony face. Noelle knelt down, reaching out to touch its rocky surface, and Geodude leaned into her hand, clearly approving of its new partner.

Amber clapped her hands together, her eyes shining with excitement. "It's perfect, Noelle! Geodude is super tough—just like you! I bet you two are going to be an amazing team."

Hiroshi nodded, handing Noelle a Pokédex, along with six Poké Balls and a pouch of Pokémon food. "Geodude will be a great partner for you, Noelle. It's strong, and it has a lot of resilience. Here's everything you'll need to get started."

Noelle took the items, her heart filled with gratitude. She looked at Geodude, her smile softening. "Thank you, Hiroshi. I'll do my best to be a good partner for you, Geodude. Let's work hard together."

Geodude let out a determined cry, flexing its rocky arms, and Noelle laughed, a sense of joy and purpose filling her chest.

Later in the day, Noelle and Amber decided to take Geodude to Windrise, where they could practice some basic moves and get to know each other better. Amber watched with an encouraging smile as Noelle tried to teach Geodude some simple attacks, like Rock Throw.

"Alright, Geodude, let's try it again," Noelle said, pointing at a small target they had set up—an empty crate that Amber had brought along. "Use Rock Throw!"

Geodude nodded, picking up a small rock and hurling it towards the crate. The rock flew through the air, missing the crate by a few inches and instead hitting a nearby bush, startling a group of birds that took off in a flurry of feathers.

Amber burst into laughter, her Swablu chirping in amusement as well. Noelle blushed, her eyes widening. "Oh dear! I'm so sorry, little birds!"

Amber patted Noelle's shoulder reassuringly. "It's okay, Noelle. You're both still learning! Besides, it's not about being perfect right away—it's about growing together. Right, Geodude?"

Geodude grunted in agreement, giving Noelle a determined nod. Noelle smiled, her resolve strengthening. "You're right. We'll just keep practicing until we get it right. Let's try again, Geodude!"

This time, Geodude picked up another rock, focusing intently on the target. It let out a determined cry before hurling the rock, and this time it hit the crate dead-on, causing Amber to cheer and clap.

"You did it, Noelle! Geodude's getting the hang of it!" Amber said, her voice filled with excitement.

Noelle beamed, her heart swelling with pride. "Thank you, Amber. And thank you, Geodude. You're amazing."

Geodude puffed out its chest, clearly proud of its accomplishment. Noelle couldn't help but laugh, feeling a warmth she hadn't felt in a long time. It was different from her usual sense of duty—this was a feeling of true companionship, of having someone who would stand by her side, no matter what.

---

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Noelle and Amber made their way back to Mondstadt. Geodude was happily rolling along beside Noelle, while Swablu fluttered above them, singing a cheerful tune.

Amber turned to Noelle, her expression softening. "I'm really happy you decided to get a Pokémon, Noelle. I think it's going to make a big difference for you. And you know, if you ever need help with training or anything, I'm always here."

Noelle smiled, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Amber. I really appreciate it. Today has been… wonderful. I feel like Geodude and I are already starting to understand each other, and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together."

Amber grinned, giving her a thumbs-up. "That's the spirit! You're going to be an amazing team, I just know it."

As they entered the city, Noelle looked down at Geodude, who looked up at her with a smile. She knelt down, patting its head gently. "Let's do our best, Geodude. Together, we'll protect Mondstadt."

Geodude let out a cheerful cry, and Noelle felt her heart swell with determination. She knew that with Geodude by her side, she could face any challenge that came her way, and maybe—just maybe—she could get one step closer to her dream of becoming a true knight of Favonius.
