Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Treasure Hoarders' Scheme and Xiangling's Culinary Showdown

The bustling marketplace of Liyue Harbor was at its peak as the sun hung high in the sky. The scent of freshly prepared dishes wafted through the air, and the melodic chatter of merchants and customers filled the vibrant streets. Near the Wanmin Restaurant, Xiangling had set up a special stall for the day, planning to hold a cooking demonstration using her newly acquired partner, Lotad, to showcase how Pokémon could assist in the culinary arts.

Xiangling's Lotad stood on the counter, its little blue lily pad head tilting this way and that as it inspected the ingredients laid out before them. It was a cheerful sight—Lotad seemed perfectly at ease, even with the bustling crowd that gathered to watch Xiangling's cooking demonstration.

Xiangling turned towards the gathered people, her smile wide and infectious. "Alright, everyone! Today, we're going to prepare a Liyue classic with a twist! With Lotad's help, we're going to add a little flair to our sweet and savory Jade Parcels!"

Lotad let out a cheerful chirp, hopping up and down on its stubby legs. The crowd let out a collective "aww" at the Pokémon's adorable antics, and Xiangling beamed. She turned back towards her ingredients, starting to chop vegetables, her hands moving with precision.

"Lotad, Water Gun!" Xiangling called out. Lotad immediately perked up and unleashed a perfectly controlled Water Gun, rinsing the freshly chopped cabbage and lotus heads with just enough force to wash them thoroughly without making a mess. The audience applauded, some of them clearly astonished by how well Lotad understood the command.

Hu Tao, who had come to see what all the excitement was about, leaned against a nearby post, her Shuppet hovering beside her. "Look at that, Shuppet! Lotad's already a pro in the kitchen! You think you could learn a trick or two?" she asked playfully.

Shuppet gave Hu Tao a deadpan look before twirling around her head, making her laugh. "Alright, alright, maybe the kitchen isn't your thing, but you're still my favorite ghost!"

As Xiangling continued her cooking demonstration, Hiroshi and Zekrom watched from the back of the crowd. Hiroshi had a thoughtful expression on his face as he observed Lotad's interactions with Xiangling. "It's incredible how Pokémon can bring a new dimension to even the simplest of tasks," he said to Zekrom, his eyes full of admiration.

Zekrom nodded, its deep voice rumbling softly. "Indeed. These bonds form the foundation for a new kind of unity. It is fascinating to see how Pokémon are becoming integrated into the daily lives of Liyue's people."

Suddenly, a commotion erupted from the far end of the market. Hiroshi and Zekrom exchanged glances before making their way towards the source of the disturbance. They arrived just in time to see a group of Treasure Hoarders causing chaos, overturning stalls and grabbing whatever they could carry.

"Out of the way! This is Treasure Hoarder business!" one of them yelled, brandishing a small dagger.

Hiroshi frowned. "Looks like they need a reminder that this kind of behavior won't be tolerated." He turned to Zekrom, his expression serious. "Let's handle this, shall we?"

Zekrom stepped forward, its massive presence immediately drawing the attention of the Treasure Hoarders. They stopped in their tracks, eyes widening in fear as the dragon-like Pokémon loomed over them, electricity crackling around its body.

"You have chosen the wrong day to cause trouble," Zekrom rumbled, its voice carrying a note of warning. The Treasure Hoarders gulped, backing away slowly, their bravado fading in the face of the legendary Pokémon.

Xiangling, noticing the commotion, paused her cooking demonstration. "Huh? What's going on over there?" She looked at Lotad, who seemed just as curious. "Come on, Lotad, let's go check it out."

Xiangling hurried over, Lotad hopping along beside her, and she quickly assessed the situation. Seeing Hiroshi and Zekrom dealing with the Treasure Hoarders, she turned to Hu Tao, who had also come over to see what was happening.

"Hu Tao, let's help Hiroshi out! We can't let these guys ruin our day!" Xiangling called.

Hu Tao nodded enthusiastically, her playful smile returning. "You got it, Xiangling! Come on, Shuppet, let's give them a little scare!"

Shuppet floated forward, its eyes glowing ominously as it let out a spooky wail. The Treasure Hoarders, already intimidated by Zekrom, looked even more terrified as Shuppet circled them, making ghostly sounds.

"Alright, alright, we get it! We're leaving!" one of the Treasure Hoarders shouted, dropping the goods they had taken as they scrambled to get away.

Beidou, who had arrived just in time to witness the Treasure Hoarders' retreat, laughed heartily. "Looks like they got what they deserved! Nice work, everyone!" She walked up to Zekrom, giving it an appreciative nod. "Thanks for stepping in, big guy."

Zekrom nodded, the electricity around it subsiding. "It was my duty to protect the people of Liyue."

Xiangling sighed in relief, giving Lotad a pat on the head. "Good job, Lotad. You were ready to help if we needed you. Now, let's get back to cooking, shall we?" Lotad chirped happily, clearly eager to return to the more enjoyable task.

The excitement eventually died down, and the market returned to its usual bustling rhythm. Xiangling resumed her cooking demonstration, this time with an even larger crowd, many of whom were now curious about how Pokémon could help in everyday tasks—and how they could keep Liyue safe.

"Alright, everyone! No more interruptions! Let's finish what we started!" Xiangling said with renewed enthusiasm, and Lotad gave an equally enthusiastic cry, hopping back onto the counter to help rinse more vegetables.

Beidou and Hu Tao stayed to watch, each of them munching on some snacks they had picked up from a nearby stall. "You know," Beidou said, her mouth half-full, "watching Pokémon help out like this makes me think that maybe I should get a Pokémon that can assist on my ship. Fletchinder is great, but something with some... utility could be pretty useful."

Hu Tao nodded, her eyes glinting mischievously. "I think Shuppet would make an excellent assistant at the funeral parlor, don't you? Imagine it helping guide lost spirits. Talk about customer service!" She winked, and Shuppet floated beside her, giving a small, approving nod.

Xingqiu, who had been watching the demonstration from a little farther back, stepped forward, addressing the crowd that had gathered. "As you can all see, Pokémon are not only wonderful companions but also helpful partners in our daily lives. Whether it's helping with chores, enhancing our festivals, or even protecting our city, Pokémon are proving to be invaluable additions to Liyue."

The crowd murmured in agreement, and several people approached Hiroshi, who had returned to his stall, to inquire about how they could get their own Pokémon. Hiroshi smiled, patiently answering their questions and introducing them to the various Pokémon he had available.

As the sun began to set over Liyue, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Xiangling finally finished her cooking demonstration. She handed out samples of the Jade Parcels she had prepared, the crowd eagerly taking the fragrant dishes and praising the unique twist that Lotad had helped add.

Xiangling looked at Lotad, her expression softening. "Thank you, Lotad. You really made this demonstration special." Lotad gave a happy chirp, nuzzling against Xiangling's arm affectionately.

Hu Tao approached, taking one of the Jade Parcels and giving it an experimental bite. Her eyes widened, and she gave an exaggerated gasp. "Xiangling! This is amazing! You and Lotad make the perfect team!" She then looked at Shuppet. "We might have to up our game, Shuppet, if we want to keep up with Xiangling and Lotad!"

Shuppet twirled around Hu Tao, letting out an excited sound, and Hu Tao laughed. "That's the spirit!"

Beidou, still munching on her third serving of Jade Parcels, nodded in agreement. "You've definitely got something special here, Xiangling. This whole day has shown just how much Pokémon are becoming a part of our community. It's exciting to think about what comes next."

Xiangling smiled, her eyes filled with determination. "I can't wait to see what the future holds. With Pokémon by our sides, I think we can make Liyue an even better place."

Hiroshi, who had finished talking to the last of the curious citizens, approached the group with Zekrom by his side. "You all did wonderfully today," he said, his voice warm. "Today was another step forward in helping everyone understand just how amazing Pokémon can be."

Zekrom nodded, its gaze sweeping over the bustling marketplace. "The bonds between humans and Pokémon grow stronger with each passing day. Together, we will create a brighter future for Liyue."

As the lanterns began to glow, illuminating the harbor in a gentle light, Xiangling, Hu Tao, Beidou, Xingqiu, and Hiroshi stood together, their Pokémon by their sides. The day had been filled with challenges and excitement, but most of all, it had been a day of connection—between friends, between Pokémon, and between the people of Liyue.

And as they looked out over the harbor, the future felt full of promise—full of music, laughter, delicious food, and, most importantly, the incredible bonds they had forged with their Pokémon partners.
