Chapter 40 - "Guardians of Fate"

"In the real battle, there is no place for escape, only for choice."

The forest grew denser as they ventured deeper. The tangled trees seemed to watch them, and the green, toxic lakes surrounded them like silent traps. The team stopped at a fork in the road.

Randel pointed to the two paths. "We'll need to split up to cover more ground. Lara, you're with me and the others. Isaac, you go with Eryan."

Eryan hesitated before asking suspiciously, "Do you trust him?"

Randel, glaring at Isaac, replied, "If he tries anything suspicious, he'll regret it."

Isaac chuckled mockingly. "Oh, please. What's with all the trust issues? Don't worry, childish antics aren't my style."

The team divided into two groups and headed their separate ways.

Elsewhere, Larios and Andrios had returned to the mercenaries' camp. Arman greeted them with visible concern. "Are you okay, Larios?"

Larios gave a faint smile. "Thanks for saving me."

Mathias, the group's scholar, entered, carrying a map of the forest. "The other team has headed deeper into the woods, towards the sacred tree. The danger there is immense."

Larios looked at Arman and asked, "Why are you so committed to this mission?"

Arman replied with a serious tone, "These creatures aren't ordinary beasts. They're crystalline monsters, and if this land loses its balance, the elemental crystals will vanish forever. Even old weapons with crystal energy will start losing their power. If we don't stop this now, everything will collapse."

On the other path, Isaac and Eryan walked cautiously. A strange silence fell over the forest. The wind stopped, and the surroundings turned into a nightmare.

"There's something here… something unnatural," Eryan said.

Before he could finish, a group of creatures emerged. They resembled humans, but their bodies were covered in hard, multicolored crystal layers, and their eyes glowed with an ominous red light.

Isaac exclaimed, "What are those things?!"

"They're the cursed warriors," Eryan replied, raising his blade. "They were once human, but the sacred tree's seeds killed them and brought them back like this."

The creatures charged at them with terrifying speed. Eryan lifted his crystalline sword and unleashed a wave of pure water, which swept over the monsters but failed to eliminate them all.

"They're too strong," Isaac said as he stepped back. "Do they have a weakness?"

"We need to find it," Eryan replied, "or we won't make it out of here alive."

Back with Isaac and Eryan, the pair had narrowly escaped the monsters. Isaac, catching his breath, asked, "Why are these creatures here? Who is responsible for this nightmare?"

Eryan replied, "The sacred tree is the source. As long as it exists, this horror won't end."

Suddenly, distant screams echoed through the forest, signaling that the other team was in danger. Isaac turned to Eryan. "We need to move. If they fall, we won't be able to complete the mission."

Scene Six: The Masked Warrior's Revelation

Far away from the chaos of the forest, atop a jagged cliff overlooking the green haze of the cursed land, a shadowed figure stood unmoving. The masked warrior, clad in black armor with red runic engravings glowing faintly, knelt to the ground, pressing his palm against the rocky surface.

A faint vibration coursed through his hand as he murmured, "So, the energy is stirring again. Three distinct forces… strong, relentless, and defiant. One of them must be Larios."

The mask's eye slits shimmered with a crimson glow as he straightened, gazing into the distant forest. His voice, low and cold, carried a foreboding weight:

"They think they can defy their destiny? Larios will soon understand that choosing one's fate comes with consequences."

He turned, his His cloak was black, and the symbol on his mask bore the number 8.

swaying with the wind, and began descending the cliffside with deliberate steps. Beneath his mask, a sinister smile formed. The hunt had begun.
