*The Legend of the White Snake*
(Dynasty: Song; approx. 1000 AD)
In ancient China, near Hangzhou's West Lake, lived a young pharmacist named Xu Xian. One day, while selling medicine, he met a beautiful woman named Bai Suzhen. Unbeknownst to Xu Xian, Bai Suzhen was the White Snake Demon, a powerful and magical serpent who had lived for centuries.
Bai Suzhen fell deeply in love with Xu Xian and decided to reveal her true identity. She transformed into a stunning woman with snow-white skin and serpent-like abilities.
Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen married and had a son, but their happiness was short-lived. A Buddhist monk named Fahai discovered Bai Suzhen's true nature and sought to separate the couple.
Fahai tricked Xu Xian into giving Bai Suzhen a magical wine that would weaken her powers. As the wine took effect, Fahai imprisoned Bai Suzhen under Leifeng Pagoda.
Years passed, and Xu Xian searched desperately for his wife. Their son grew up and became a skilled warrior.
To rescue his mother, the son joined forces with a group of heroes. Together, they battled Fahai and his followers.
In the climactic final battle, Bai Suzhen broke free from her prison and joined the fight. Fahai was defeated, but not before casting a curse that would separate the family once more.
The story concludes with Bai Suzhen returning to her serpent form, and Xu Xian, heartbroken, becoming a monk.
