As Jing Shaoyu approached the Divine Unicorn, he realized just how stunningly beautiful and pure this creature was. Its upright posture and exquisite build surpassed ninety-nine percent of soul beasts, but what left the deepest impression was its aura.
The Divine Unicorn exuded an air of holiness, serenity, elegance, and tranquility, making anyone who approached it feel an irresistible sense of peace, their evil thoughts dissipating as they basked in its presence.
Stopping five meters away, Jing Shaoyu maintained a safe distance that wouldn't provoke the Divine Unicorn's vigilance. With a gentle smile, he greeted softly, "Divine Unicorn, hello."
Perhaps his demeanor struck a chord with the Divine Unicorn, or perhaps it was simply curious about his aura. The majestic creature turned its head, its clear black-and-white eyes locking onto Jing Shaoyu.
The Divine Unicorn's gaze carried an air of suspicion and caution, as though its piercing eyes could see through to Jing Shaoyu's very soul. Under that penetrating stare, he felt a chill run through him, a powerless sensation of being completely exposed.
"Young man, you carry the essence of nature," came a soft, melodious voice. Jing Shaoyu realized the Divine Unicorn had not moved its mouth; it was speaking directly to him through telepathy.
His heart skipped a beat as he quickly deduced that this was one of the Divine Unicorn's innate abilities: telepathic communication.
The gentle voice was soft yet firm, like a flowing melody from a southern maiden. Jing Shaoyu, taken aback, was about to respond when the Divine Unicorn spoke again.
"Young man, may I see your martial soul?" it asked, its tone carrying a hint of curiosity.
"Yes, of course." Jing Shaoyu made a quick decision and readily agreed. With a thought, his Origin Spirit martial soul manifested and attached itself to him.
The moment the Origin Spirit appeared, Jing Shaoyu's aura underwent a profound transformation. The Divine Unicorn's eyes widened in shock, its expression shifting rapidly between surprise, confusion, awe, and joy. Its usually calm demeanor was disrupted, and its shimmering spiral horn began to radiate an unbroken spectrum of rainbow light.
Though Jing Shaoyu didn't understand why the Divine Unicorn wanted to see his martial soul, its reaction told him it was a good sign.
The Origin Spirit, a gift bestowed by nature itself, carried the essence of life and harmony. Since the Divine Unicorn was known as a sacred beast of fortune, deeply connected to nature, its recognition of the Origin Spirit was almost inevitable. Jing Shaoyu began to feel a glimmer of hope that earning the Divine Unicorn's trust would be easier than he'd anticipated.
What happened next not only confirmed his hunch but left both Jing Shaoyu and the observing Leng Yaozhu utterly stunned.
The emotions in the Divine Unicorn's eyes gradually settled into joy and relief. It took a step forward, its noble head slightly lowered. Jing Shaoyu instinctively stepped back, but the creature stopped and spoke again.
"Honored Child of Nature, please don't be alarmed. I mean you no harm," the Divine Unicorn said in a respectful tone.
"Child of Nature?" Jing Shaoyu asked, his heart settling as he began to grasp the situation.
"Yes," the Divine Unicorn affirmed. "From you, I sense the pure and abundant will of nature—a presence I've only glimpsed once during my evolution. You are born of its will, making you the Child of Nature."
"The will of nature?" Jing Shaoyu murmured, intrigued by this new concept. He silently made a mental note to explore it further.
"Judging by your tone, the Child of Nature seems to hold great significance," he said.
"Indeed," the Divine Unicorn replied, nodding its head. "The Child of Nature is the most revered, exalted existence, a vessel for the will of nature itself. You are destined to lead and protect the natural world."
"I see," Jing Shaoyu said, taken aback by the grandeur of the Divine Unicorn's words. He had always known his martial soul was extraordinary, but this revelation added an entirely new layer of importance to his identity.
"Please forgive my earlier rudeness, Honored Child of Nature," the Divine Unicorn continued, its eyes filled with contrition and hope. "It was not my intention to treat you coldly."
"It's alright, I didn't take it to heart," Jing Shaoyu said magnanimously. After all, with his ultimate goal still unfulfilled, being petty would only undermine his efforts.
"Thank you for your generosity," the Divine Unicorn said, visibly relieved and joyful. It began moving toward Jing Shaoyu, its graceful steps imbued with a sense of reverence.
This time, Jing Shaoyu did not retreat. He had no doubt now that the Divine Unicorn harbored no ill intent. He was curious to see what it intended to do as it approached. Surely, it wasn't going to kneel in submission, was it?
As if his thoughts had manifested reality, the Divine Unicorn stopped just an arm's length away. Lowering its majestic head, it folded its four sturdy legs, bowing solemnly before Jing Shaoyu. Its luminous horn, radiating a kaleidoscope of colors, tilted toward him, as though inviting him to touch it.
"Honored and mighty Child of Nature, I, Divine Unicorn Ankacia Saintheart Daylight, pledge my unwavering loyalty and devotion to you!"
Jing Shaoyu was dumbfounded. This... was this truly the script for the Child of Nature? It felt almost too good to be true. Without lifting a finger, he had managed to earn the submission of a 50,000-year Divine Unicorn—a sacred and proud being that was notoriously difficult to tame.
Watching from the shadows, Leng Yaozhu was equally shocked. Her worldview seemed to crack as she witnessed the scene unfold. Was this truly the same Divine Unicorn that had repeatedly rejected some of the most talented figures in the War God Temple and the Spirit Pagoda? How could it behave like a docile steed in front of her disciple?
Had she not known better, she might have suspected this Divine Unicorn was a fake.
Eventually, Leng Yaozhu came to terms with the truth, her initial disbelief giving way to excitement. Shaoyu was indeed her disciple—someone with unparalleled talent, able to captivate even a Divine Unicorn at first sight!
"What is the meaning of this?" Jing Shaoyu finally asked, recovering from his stupor.
"Honored Child of Nature, there is no need for confusion," the Divine Unicorn explained. "To serve you is the sole purpose of my existence. We Divine Unicorns are graced by the will of nature and are destined to be servants to the Child of Nature. Please, accept my loyalty."
Jing Shaoyu's eyes sparkled with delight. Though he remained composed, he couldn't help but celebrate inwardly. The hardest part was already done. The rest would be a breeze.
Raising his hand, he slowly reached out toward the Divine Unicorn's glowing horn. The creature remained perfectly still, its head tilting slightly forward, as if urging him on.
