Chapter 30 - This is Fun

Violet's jaw dropped open as she made sure to keep her gaze on his face as she responded by scooting back, as much as she wanted to fully look at him. Her eyes wanting to feast on the part of him she hadn't dared to look at.

"My-my lord! You're naked!" she rasped out, even as she continued to scoot back, even more surprised to see Lord Cain pick up the robe he had discarded and put it on before closing the distance between them.

"...Unless you were lying about staring at my--"

Violet didn't let him finish, stretching out her hand to touch his skin, with her eyes squinted closed, surprised by how hard it felt even though she merely poked her fingers against it.

Her fingers slid across the panes of muscles as she wondered just when he had that much time to work out when he was always at his desk working.

She wanted to touch more, but she knew better than to continue whatever weirdness was going on between them as she hurriedly moved to pull her hand back, only to feel a bigger palm rest on her hand and wrist, pulling her closer until she was fully touching him.

Her eyes popped open with shock as she looked up, only to see his gaze fixed directly on her, staring at her without saying a word. The atmosphere only got much tenser as she felt every bit of his cool skin and his warm hand, which held her hand there.

"Well?" he said when he finally spoke, and Violet, who had been fully staring at his chest, felt her heart skip as she unconsciously nodded in response, gaze sliding across the expanse of his chest and even lower to where the robe covered as she swallowed. "Nice! It feels nice!" she said, her voice sounding hoarser than usual as she cleared her throat and pulled away, relieved to see Lord Cain allow her to pull away.

"I should head back to my bed!" Violet said, wanting to distance herself from him as quickly as possible, only to hear him refuse.

"It's almost dawn! Ravon should already be on his way. Stay here until he returns!" he said in a low tone, but one that sounded very much like an order she knew she couldn't dare to refuse as she nodded her head to show that she understood.

Her eyes roved over the destroyed rooms as different questions slowly popped into her head. 'Why did you destroy the room?' 'Is it fine to not take the medicine, but why still ask for it?' But the most important part of it all was the one question she couldn't seem to figure out regardless of how long she thought about it.

'Why do you need me to stay with you at night? I'm just a servant!' she thought, even as she lifted her head to rub her forehead a second after she watched Cain head into the door that led to his private bathroom.

She was just about to find a place to sit when she saw Cain pop his head back out and speak to her, "You can get ready too!" he told her before closing the door.

Violet didn't have to be told twice as she immediately headed through the opposite door that led to a bed which had been placed there and a smaller door that led to a bathroom that was much bigger than her room.

Understanding that the entire space was probably another bathroom that had been constructed to look like a room, considering the size of the bathtub that could fit five people of her size.

Violet hurriedly bathed, enjoying the luxury regardless, even as her mind remained unsettled, yet to figure out how to deal with Rane and his numerous threats.

'Do I really have to get the document for him?' shaking her head the second the thought popped into her head as she realized that the second the document went missing, she would be the sole suspect and one that was guilty.

'I can't! I need to find a way to send him out of the mansion!' her eyes growing colder as she clenched her teeth together, realizing that it was either him or her.

'Alive or dead, it doesn't matter!' even as she pressed both hands to her chest and realized with her eyes tightly shut that she would rather prefer he was dead.

"Just what kind of person am I becoming!" she mumbled to herself as she got out of the bathtub and hurriedly got dressed, stepping out of the room the second she was done to see Cain already dressed, with the only thing left being to button his shirt.

She had barely glanced at him when she lowered her gaze, reprimanding herself. 'What's wrong with you? Are you obsessed with his chest?' wondering how and when such a thing happened so quickly for it to sneak up on her.

But she had just shifted her gaze away from him when she heard him speak. "Come over here and fasten these buttons," he said as he turned to face her, with his usual expression on his face as he fixed his gaze intensely on her. Violet couldn't not obey as she immediately moved to do as she was told, her heart beating erratically in her chest as she took in a whiff of him, her hands pausing for a second as she unconsciously leaned closer to take another smell, even as she quickly fastened the buttons like she was told, all the while feeling Cain's gaze on her.

The second she was done, she stepped back, wanting to distance herself away, only to hear him give another order, "Cufflinks!" he said, and Violet's response was to remain on the spot she stood on, beyond glad to have a viable excuse.

"I have no idea how. I've never done it before," she told him with a nod that looked more like a bow as she clenched her teeth and howled in her mind. 'You've done it yourself for as long as I can remember. Do it yourself!'

Only to hear Cain respond even before she was done speaking. "Come closer! I'll teach you!" to Violet's annoyance, one she almost failed to hide as she moved closer again and felt her heart slowly begin to race, even as she was powerless to stop it.

Her eyes on his arm, where she totally missed the sly smile that flashed across his face before his gaze slowly dissolved into a more neutral one.

'This is fun!' he thought to himself, realizing how hard her heart seemed to pound the closer she came to him, even though. He had heard people's hearts pound in fear of him, but he had looked at the young man hard enough to tell that he was no longer that afraid of him.
