Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"I'm not sure if I can make it tonight," Dianna said, her voice ringing hesitation. She moved to the edge of the bed and sat with a defeated sigh.

"What's the matter? You still feel sick?" William demanded after walking up to her.

She swung her head from left to right. "I feel great but it's just that I'm not sure about tonight's event. I know it's going to be a luxurious gathering but after this experience, I'm not sure.

"You don't have to worry about any form of sabotage." William cut Dianna short after noticing her fear. "As the owner of White Moon Company, I assure you that your safety is guaranteed."

Dianna was struck by the statement. She knew that Whitemoon was a new money in the city but she didn't know that William was the boss of it.

"You own the company?"

William blinked at her.

"Then I better start getting ready." She professed with a bright smile.

After realizing that his services were no longer needed, Dr. O'Donnell stepped out of the room after mumbling that he was leaving. No one said a thing to him because the Lamptons were focused on the discussion between William and their daughter.

Alex also felt invisible.

As far as the Lamptons were concerned, Alex's services were no longer needed so he could as well step out like Dr. O'Donnell.

Mr. Lampton turned to William. "Mr. Turner, did you come all the way here to invite Dianna to the party?"

"Yes. Mr. Lampton."

Mrs. Lampton walked up to Dianna and remained glued to her side. She began to whisper into her left ear.

"William owns that company and I'm sure you know what that means. You'll be striking gold tonight. All you have to do is get dressed and show up."

"Mom!" Dianna whisper-yelled.

Mrs. Lampton flipped her hair and stepped back.

Dianna cleared her throat loudly and turned to William. "Why don't you give me a moment Mr. Turner? I'll get dressed ASAP and come with you to the party."

"Of course." He replied.

William and Alex followed the Lamptons out of the room.

William fell back on the car seat and turned to Alex. "Are you good?"

Alex gave a nod. "I'm good."

"Are you sure you don't need anything?" asked a concerned William.

"I'm good." Alex maintained.

Dianna was seated opposite the men, her legs crossed while pressing a pink purse to her chest. She was elegantly dressed in one of her luxurious silk dresses which always hugged her tightly. She was paying keen attention to the conversation between William and Alex and she couldn't help but wonder why William was speaking to Alex like a friend. She would never consider them as friends.

She was tempted to ask about their relationship but then concluded that it didn't matter to her. Alex must be one of William's random acquaintances which was quite handy that night. She reached for her phone and resolved to take cute selfies while the car swerved down the straight path ahead.

After driving for almost an hour, the car pulled up in front of a skyscraper.

The surrounding was oozing with media reporters and photographers who were eager to click pictures or throw questions at the arriving guests.

The paparazzi intensified when William was ushered out of the car by some of his bodyguards. He held Dianna and ushered her into the building while Alex followed closely behind.

The trio walked into the hall that was reserved for the night's occasion.

Elsardo Event Center is a renowned location for hosting first-class gatherings in the city and tonight, the center was used for the Whitemoon company party.

The hall was decorated with spectacular disco balls and

Lights. A few guests were moving around, meeting, and exchanging pleasantries while bar tenders were up and doing.

"I'll go fix my makeup." Dianna excused herself for the dressing room. Dianna was the kind of performer who believed good makeup guarantees a successful performance. In as much as she wants people to be hoodwinked by her song, she loves to see them admiring his beautiful face.

"Come with me." William invited Alex over to one of the VIP tables.

They sat.

"What do you think of this ambiance?" William flung the question at Alex.

Alex was about to speak when the glass door was pushed open. Two bodyguards walked in dressed in black cargo pants.

"The guests are starting to arrive. We are 5 minutes early." William pointed out.

Alex's eyes widened when a couple stepped in with their hands tied around each other's waist.

It was Elisa and Mark.

Alex wanted to look away but Mark saw him with the tail of his left eye. Mark then leaned toward Elisa and began to whisper to her.

Alex sighed and began biting inside his cheeks as Mark and Elisa began taking steps toward their table.

The couple stood before William and Alex. At that point, Alex felt like vanishing from the surface of the earth.

"Shit!" William muttered under his breath. He had wanted to cancel their invitation after he learned about what transpired between Elisa and Alex but had completely forgotten.

"Mr. Turner. I'm glad to see you." Mark told William.

William faked a grin. "Glad to see you too, Mr. Mark."

Elisa giggled and waved at William. He acknowledged her with a nod. Mark tightened the grip his hand had around her and looked at Alex with a quirked brow.

"You're also here?"

Alex ran his hand through his hair.

"I wasn't expecting you to be here," Mark added.

Elisa stared at Alex and darted her gaze back to William. She kept wondering how both of them ended up at the same table.

Mark stole a glance at his ice watch. "It's not yet party time and Alex is already in the building. Are you one of the waiters?"

Alex said nothing.

"And why are you sitting so close to Mr. Turner by the way." Mark went on. "Do you even realize that this is a VIP table?
