The ride home after dinner was quiet. Ashton had been quieter than usual, and although Evander kept his eyes on the road, Delphinia could tell he was concerned. She watched Ashton through the rearview mirror, her heart aching at the sight of his small figure slouched against the car door.
Once they arrived home, Ashton went straight to his room, muttering a soft "goodnight" as he disappeared down the hallway. Delphinia and Evander exchanged a look before heading to their bedroom.
Delphinia closed the door behind her and sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "Something is definitely bothering him," she said, leaning against the dresser.
Evander popped open a few buttons on his shirt, his gaze locked on her with intensity. "You think so?"
"Of course," Delphinia replied, folding her arms. "Maybe he's thinking about Lydia again. You should ask him, Evander. Maybe he wants to see her but doesn't know how to say it…"
