Chapter 3 - My Personal Assistant

I approached an elderly couple who were pulling out unwanted weeds from among their vegetable plants.

"Heyy, do you need help?" I said in a polite manner.

The old couple noticed that I had come from a distance and stopped working to rest.

"No dear, the work was almost done anyway, you don't need to help. Did you sleep well? Are you feeling better?" said the old woman.

The old woman's kind words touched me a little. With a half-shy expression

"Yes, I got a good night's sleep. Thank you," I said.

"You are a very polite young man. We were very worried when you suddenly got up from your bed and fainted yesterday. If I hadn't told my husband who is made of wood next to me, he wouldn't have even noticed that I was getting you into the new bed."

The old man intervened in the conversation.

"It's rude, my love. I was shocked when you suddenly got up and fainted. I didn't know what to do. Besides, you've gotten very thin, son. Although I used to split logs and carry big logs, it was very easy to carry you, no matter how old I am. You've gotten very tired and weak."

The old man looked me over with his eyes from top to bottom with my whitewashed state. The woman coughed slightly, stopped her chattering husband and changed the subject.

"My child, you have so many questions in your mind. At the same time, we also have questions that we are curious about for you. Let's put that aside for now, shall we? It's cold outside, go home and warm up by the fireplace. We'll come to you after we take care of a few things here. I'll make a nice breakfast, we'll all eat it together. Come on, my child, get inside the house before you catch too cold." The old woman said with a smiling expression.

Without giving me much of a chance to say anything, I complied and started walking towards the adobe house. As we were walking towards the house, I turned my back to this crazy but sweet couple. The old couple was arguing with each other sweetly. I smiled at them lightly and continued on my way. I started to examine my surroundings. The outside was a typical old village house. It consisted of a barn, a vegetable garden, a chicken coop and fruit trees.

The house was built on a hill, which gave the opportunity to observe the surroundings. The large and small houses that sprouted like mushrooms in the distance of the house were closed. The old couple had built their house in a place far from society. Perhaps their tolerance for people decreased as they got older. Who knows, time will tell. On the other side of the houses were majestic mountains. The bare mountains were covered by pine trees, which acted as a dress, covering all the nakedness. The view was breathtaking, as if it had come out of a work of art.

Anyway, I decided to listen to my hosts and go into the house without lingering outside. Suddenly I thought I heard a low voice that sounded like a woman's voice. I looked around and there was no one else but the old couple. I started hearing the voice again, its volume increasing. Finally, I realized how familiar the voice was. As the voice became more understandable, I started to understand what it was saying.

"A photo was taken. A photo was taken. A photo was taken. Would you like to look at the photos that were taken?"

I now understood who the familiar voice was. Evreka Evreka, I finally found it. It was Siri, my smartphone's assistant. Siri, what were you doing in my head? Or did Whaley, who brought me here, perceive my phone and me as one? After all, in my old world, most people spent their time on their phones. It wasn't that surprising that Whaley thought phones were part of our bodies.

I said, "Siri, show me the photos you've taken." It said, "Your wish is my command," and showed me the photos.

Suddenly, the photos taken appeared in my mind. There were photos of the smiling old woman with her husband in traditional dress. Some of the photos turned out funny when they were taken. For some reason, I burst out laughing. Siri had become one with my mind. How did it feel to be one with and possess an intelligent assistant? Words would not be enough to describe it. Now I could do anything with my intelligent assistant. I could learn languages very easily, I could easily learn any instrument I wanted, I could play the stock market like a child's toy. Unfortunately, my old world was left behind. This world was not very developed.

My happiness suddenly gave way to pessimism. I entered the adobe house with a heavy heart.
