Chapter 37 - Chapter 38: The Battle of End

The air in the chamber grew heavy as gunfire erupted. Cassie dove for cover behind the control terminal, bullets ricocheting off the walls in sharp bursts. Anya fired back from the doorway, her precise shots dropping the first wave of operatives. Ethan crouched beside her, reloading with practiced speed.

"They just keep coming!" Ethan shouted, peeking over the edge of his cover to return fire.

"We need to hold them off until Nikolai secures the data!" Cassie yelled.

Through her earpiece, Nikolai's voice crackled, urgency evident. "I'm downloading the files now. Give me three minutes."

"Make it two!" Cassie snapped, taking a quick shot at a figure advancing toward the terminal.

Anya's calm, deadly focus was unshaken. "If we don't move soon, we're boxed in."

Cassie's mind raced. The device was disarmed, but Eclipse would never stop unless they were utterly dismantled. They couldn't just escape—they had to ensure that this was the end.

---

The second wave of operatives stormed in, armed with heavier firepower. Smoke grenades rolled across the floor, filling the room with a choking fog.

Ethan tossed a flashbang down the hall. The blast disoriented their attackers, buying them a few precious seconds. "Cassie, we need a plan now!"

Cassie wiped sweat from her brow, her heart pounding. "Anya, is there another exit?"

"Service tunnel behind the panel," Anya said, motioning to the far wall. "It's narrow, but it leads outside."

Cassie's gut churned. "We don't leave without the data."

"Then you'd better stall them longer," Nikolai said, his voice strained. "The system's slowing down—they're trying to block me."

"Anya, clear that tunnel!" Cassie ordered.

Anya nodded, sprinting to the panel. With a swift kick, it swung open, revealing a dark, cramped passage.

Ethan moved closer to Cassie. "We can't hold them forever."

"We're not leaving empty-handed," Cassie replied, her determination unwavering.

---

The next few minutes felt like hours. Cassie and Ethan fired in unison, their backs against the terminal as more operatives poured into the chamber.

"I've got it!" Nikolai suddenly exclaimed. "The files are downloaded!"

Cassie's relief was short-lived as a deafening explosion shook the building. Dust rained from the ceiling, and the floor beneath them trembled.

"They're trying to collapse the structure!" Anya shouted.

Cassie grabbed the drive Nikolai had sent to her console. "Move! Everyone into the tunnel!"

Ethan covered their retreat, firing until his magazine clicked empty. He tossed his weapon aside and sprinted after them as Cassie led the charge into the tunnel.

---

The service tunnel was suffocatingly narrow, the sound of gunfire and explosions fading as they ran. Cassie clutched the drive tightly, its contents their only chance of bringing Eclipse to its knees.

"Nikolai," she panted into her earpiece, "did you make it out?"

"I'm right behind you," Nikolai replied, his voice tight.

"Good. We're almost there."

The tunnel opened into a dimly lit alley, the cold night air hitting them like a slap. Cassie scanned their surroundings, her weapon ready.

"We're clear," Anya said, though her tone remained cautious.

"For now," Ethan added, wiping sweat from his brow.

Cassie turned to Nikolai. "What's the status of the files?"

"They're encrypted, but intact," Nikolai said, holding up his laptop. "We need to get to a secure location to upload them."

---

The team moved quickly, weaving through Prague's labyrinthine streets. Cassie's mind was already on the next step. The files would expose Eclipse's network, but they needed a platform—something that would ensure the information couldn't be buried.

"Anya," Cassie said as they ducked into a safe house, "can your contacts help us broadcast this?"

Anya hesitated, then nodded. "I know someone. But it's a risk. Once this goes live, Eclipse will come after everyone involved."

"They're already coming after us," Ethan said grimly. "We might as well hit them where it hurts."

Cassie set the drive on the table, her gaze steady. "This is what we've been fighting for. We end it here."

---

Anya's contact worked from a secure underground network hub. The dimly lit space hummed with the sound of servers and keyboards. Cassie handed over the drive, watching as the hacker, a wiry man with sharp eyes, plugged it in.

"This is heavy stuff," the hacker said, his fingers flying over the keyboard. "You're about to burn some very powerful people."

"Good," Cassie replied, her voice hard. "Make sure it reaches everyone."

The hacker grinned. "Consider it done."

---

As the files began uploading, Nikolai's face was a mixture of relief and apprehension. "Once this is out, there's no going back."

"There never was," Cassie said.

The screens lit up with headlines as the data went live. Names, operations, financial records—all of Eclipse's secrets were now in the open.

Cassie exhaled, a wave of exhaustion hitting her. It was over.

But before she could relax, Anya's voice cut through the room. "We've got company."

Cassie grabbed her weapon, her body tensing. "How many?"

"Too many," Anya said, her tone grim.

Ethan loaded his rifle. "Looks like Eclipse doesn't want us celebrating."

Cassie's resolve hardened. "We've come too far to back down now."

---

The team braced for the fight of their lives as Eclipse operatives stormed the hub. Cassie's finger tightened on the trigger, determination blazing in her eyes.

This wasn't just about survival. This was the final stand.

The endgame was here.
