Chapter 6 - Lesser of Two Evils

Uther Pendragon sat at the edge of the lake, gazing up at the night sky. It had been about ten minutes since his confrontation with Tayaire, and he was growing tired of waiting.

"I guess they were just talking him up after all," Uther muttered to himself in a dejected tone.

He had always sought to fight the strongest individuals in the world, testing his strength by taking on jobs to hunt and eliminate the leaders of warring nations. Ever since his supposed assassination over five hundred years ago, he felt that no battle would ever give him the thrill he craved. With no kingdom and no place to call home, he believed his only purpose in life was to fight.

"I wonder what Author is up to right now. Did he find anyone interesting?" Uther's attention soon turned to the lake, where he noticed multiple light specks floating in the air at the water's edge.

The specks of light gradually descended into the water, causing it to glow a bright yellow.

"So, you're finally awake, I see," Uther said with a joyful grin.

However, the light in the water soon dimmed to pitch black. Instantly, caution crept into Uther's mind, making him suspicious and alert. The air around him became dense with a malicious intent, as if a demonic presence was breaking the barrier between the physical and spiritual realms.

"So this is the power of an Omega-level threat. I'm impressed; only a few warriors in this generation can emit power on such a large scale."

The waves in the water began to grow taller and raged violently, causing heavy winds in the surrounding area.

A geyser shot up from the center of the lake, resembling a giant pillar of water. As the water cleared Tayaire could be seen floating in mid air with his arms crossed and his eyes closed. Uther noticed Tayaire instantly, but there were a few slight changes in his appearance. While Tayaire has always had a slim and athletic build, now his muscle structure was more defined and visible. He had a single small demon-like horn protruding from the left side of his forehead, accompanied by a black mark that led from the horn to the bottom of his left eye. His hair had seemed to grow a few inches as well due to this change.

"So this is the Infamous Malaika transformation I've heard so much about. Funny how it looks so different from what I was told," Uther spoke with his body trembling from adrenaline.

Unknown to Uther, the information provided to him before this mission was only half correct. The power of the Malaika was only provided to those who were blessed by deities of pure goodwill such as gods and angels, which is true in the matter of Tayaire. But along with that, he was also blessed by a evil and chaotic deity. This gave Tayaire the power of Shetani. The power of Shetani is gifted to those who have found favor in the eyes of a devil or demon. It brings nothing but destruction and mayhem in its wake.

"Malaika?" Tayaire asked as he began to laugh hysterically.

"Do I look like some half-witted angel to you?" Tayaire said as his eyes opened, revealing only pitch black with a purple iris.

He charged Uther at light speed grabbing him by the throat and lifting him in the air. This action had caught Uther off guard, At one moment Tayaire had stood directly in front of him, then in less than a second he had his hands around Uther's neck. Choking him with immeasurable strength.

Uther had tried to free himself by kicking Tayaire, but this attempt was in vain, because Tayaire had thrown him without hesitation. As his body was thrown into a large boulder, Uther's body throbbed in a pain that was unnatural to him.

"His personality had changed in a matter of seconds. At one moment he seemed so calm and carefree, but now it's like he's a raging beast," Uther thought trying to ignore the pain he felt, while picking himself up off the ground.

The power displayed by Tayaire was different from what he had showcased before. His power at this point had become more chaotic and indirect as if he was no longer in control and was just acting on instinct. Tayaire ran towards the dazed man like a starving predator, crashing into him, charging his body through the boulder, and sending him flying through the air. Tayaire met the man mid-air with a barrage of punches and kicks, not giving Uther the time to recover from the onslaught. It was a brutal display to say the least and it only got worse with each attack.

Uther couldn't believe the outburst of power that he had fallen victim to. While trying to block each attack, he was continuously getting hit from a different direction. Each blow caused major damage to his body, either causing internal damage or breaking bones.

"This is dangerous," Uther thought as the final hit landed, knocking him back to the ground.

The impact of Uther's body hitting the surface had caused a wide crater to be shown around him.

Uther began to stand with the damage done to him making it extremely difficult for him to catch is balance.

"Im not done playing with you yet," Uther had heard Tayaire say, his voice had struck fear in the man's core, causing his legs to buckle beneath him.

Uther had lifted his head to look at Tayaire, who was walking towards him with his head tilted to the side.

"Who do you think you are? I am a king. I am royalty. Do you think you can get away with this you fool?" Uther said frantically while on his knees, trying to stand.

"Your status means nothing here," Tayaire responded while coating his hand in a blade of black aura.

"You and your men chose to come and attack me. All of this could have been avoided if you would've just stayed in your place," Tayaire said as he stood over the man lifting his hand ready to strike him down.

"Too bad you would have made a great plaything."

As Tayaire swung his hand down to strike Uther, he was confronted with a kick to his ribs. One of Uther's followers had come to his rescue after watching the battle from the skies. While the kick was unexpected, it didn't really do much to Tayaire but push him back a couple feet.

"Would now be a good time to jump in Uther?" A man with red hair tied into a ponytail spoke courageously.

The man was Uther's head lieutenant. He was a slim and tall man, that wore bulky armor that looked too big for him.

"You could have jumped in whenever you felt comfortable," Uther spoke in a playful tone.

For a moment he had forgotten about the group that came with him, but now he was relieved that someone had come and saved his life. Even if it was only for a moment, the man's actions had made Uther regain hope in his victory over his enemy.

"Sir, do we have permission to take over the battle from here?" as the man asked Uther this question two men came landing from the sky in unison.

"Be careful with this one Ruka. He's not like the other individuals we've faced in the past," Uther said with caution.

The men all nodded as they prepared themselves to take out the threat in front of them. Tayaire walked towards the four man unfazed by the previous attack.

"Looks like I will be having a little more entertainment tonight," He said while cracking his neck.

Ruka was the first to charge in at Tayaire, he was trying to distract him while the other two focused on healing Uther. Tayaire watched the other man run towards him not paying it any mind. He lifted his hand out to the side as if he was reaching for something. In a flash Tayaire's sword had come from the distance, landing perfectly in his stretched out hand. Just as the sword was grasped by Tayaire, Ruka had swung his twin daggers. One of the attacks were focused at Tayaire's throat while the other went for his stomach. Tayaire deflected both strikes at once, by using his sword to block the attack aimed for his stomach. Then redirecting the hit to his neck, he had grabbed Ruka's wrist and forced the blade into the man's shoulder. Tayaire then sent a kick into the man's side sending the man flying off into the distance.

The two men who were healing Uther's injuries watched the fight between Tayaire and Ruka with bewilderment. Ruka was the most powerful member in their unit other than Uther and to see him being dispatched so quickly sent a shiver down their spines.

"Tex, you got to get lord Uther away from here," the man whispered to the other in a frightened tone.

"I'll find a way to distract him, then you grab Uther and make a run for it."

He placed a hand on his comrade's shoulder and gave him a quick nod. In Tex's head he knew that the plan wasn't going to work but he still nodded in agreement after seeing that was their only option. As the man stood on his two feet, Tex prepared to move as fast as he could to get him and Uther away from where the battle was taking place. Tayaire began to walk towards the three men as he saw one of them take up a fighting stance.

"One down only three more to go," Tayaire said as he walked towards the men with an evil grin.

The man standing in front of Tayaire began to tremble as he walked towards them. He held a silver and gold staff with a sphere on each end in his hands. As Tayaire closed in on the man, he lifted his hand and faced it towards Tayaire.

"Now," The man said towards Tex, letting him know it was time to follow through with his plan.

As he signaled his comrade the man's palm began to glow, and a small dome had. encased Tayaire.

"This obviously won't hold him for long. You need to move now!" as the man spoke, Tex had sprung into action.

Tex Threw Uther over his shoulders and began to make a break for it, heading in the same direction that they had come from.
